Tamodi Lodge, Near Plettenberg Bay, Eastern Cape, South Africa - Explore & Book

"It’s hard to put into words just what makes Tamodi so special. The architecture is impressive, the décor epitomises African bush elegance, and the staff are friendly and intuitive. The views are spectacular, and the peace and quiet is wonderful. But there’s more to Tamodi than that. Everything has been created to give guests the best possible experience, from the welcome drink on arrival to the huge freestanding tubs in the 7 indulgent suites. The result is not just a beautiful place to stay, but an ambiance that will make you wish you didn’t have to leave. At the heart of the Garden Route, Tamodi sits on working stables near the coastal holiday hotspot and whale-watching hub of Plettenberg Bay. It’s the perfect base for exploring, and Nature’s Valley, Tsitsikamma Forest, Knysna and Sedgefield all make easy day trips. But if you end up feeling so relaxed that the most energetic things you do are sit on your private deck and float in the infinity pool, we won’t judge! Highs A superb setting with fantastic views over the Outeniqua Mountains, which change constantly with the lightGreat value considering the level of luxury and beautiful design (soaring thatched ceilings, glass walls that connect you with the forest)Lots to do in the area: nature trails, boat trips, wildlife sanctuaries, adrenalin sports and horse riding, plus it's a very short drive from sweeping beaches Plenty of space to relax, including a vast deck with a pool, and lounges with towering fireplaces The little touches: a handwritten welcome note, fresh flowers, scented candles, towels hand-tied with raffia, staff remembering how you like your coffee Lows It’s a little isolated (15 minutes outside town) and no meals other than breakfast are served, so you’ll need to drive out for lunch and dinnerBreakfast is from 8.30-9.30am, which might be a stretch for late risers Open-plan bathrooms might not suit everyone (though toilets are separate)No children under 8 are accepted - the focus here is romance and relaxationFull pre-payment is required prior to arrival" - Jo Duxbury

We couldn't have enjoyed our stay at Tamodi Lodge any more. Beautiful and clean accommodation. Fabulous views and peaceful surroundings (especially from the bath in our room) Hosts Lyn and Owen were fabulous and we went to all of Lyns recommendations for restaurants and local attractions. If you like walking trails Natures Valley is a must. We would not hesitate in recommending Tamodi Lodge and hope to return one day.

Tamodi Lodge was the second stop on our Honeymoon and such a gem in the The Crags. The views are spectacular and the room magnificent. We were greeted with champagne, chocolates and a written welcome note. The breakfast was delicious and service amazing. Overall, this is great lodge filled with luxury and relaxation.

We stayed at Tamodi Lodge following a recommendation from friends. We included 2 nights in the middle of a Garden Route trip. What a find! The Lodge is stunning. The location is perfect. Stunning backdrop and views. Very peaceful and tranquil. |Our room was away from the main house but only a short walk. It was so private, we couldn't see another property from ours. |The room was huge. Perfect set out and planned to include maximum view from bed and delightful bath. We didn't close our curtains once for fear of missing the view. |We had a kitchen area with a fridge. Crockery, glasses, coffee facilities. A beautiful walk in wardrobe. Indoor and outdoor shower. The bed was huge and divine. |We included breakfast which was fabulous. Cooked by Owen and served by the lovely staff. We enjoyed the long breakfast opportunity and chance to talk to other guests whilst taking in the view. |Owen and Lynn where available without being intrusive at all. |The location is outside the main Plett Bay area but it's very accessible by car. Close to a stunning sunset view. |Most definitely one of the highlights of a fabulous trip along this most stunning coast of South Africa! We will definitely be back. Thank you!

The couple who run the Lodge are lovely and very responsive with any requests or needs. The views are stunning. And great bird watching in the evening! Unfortunately, there was no hot water during our stay which was a bummer. The air conditioning also did not work during the nights we were there. So it was very hot and uncomfortable for us.

We stayed 4 nights and I wish it had been way longer - everything was perfect and we are grateful to Lynne and Owen for being such impeccable hosts - nothing was too much trouble, including the new yoga mats that were placed in our room prior to arrival. We’ll definitely return, just for longer next time!! Thank you Lynne and Owen - your home is breath taking.

Solo female traveler. I stayed three nights in room 4. One of the most impressive places I've ever stayed (in 25+ years of international travel.)||What's to love:|- Rolling hills of green trees as far as you can see: from the room, the breakfast restaurant, and the pool|- Gigantic decks attached to the rooms and common area|- Owen and Lynne, the owners, are very hospitable, and on top of everything. Quick and thorough communication during and before the trip: they anticipate your needs and provide you with all the information that you'll need in advance of your trip. They're great sources of advice: what to do, where to buy groceries (Woolworth's), what to take. Lynne even offered Owen to run to the store (12 km away) to buy an electrical plug for me. (Turns out that found a plug that I could use)|- The location: there's a lot to do in The Crags and nearby Plettenberg Bay. Convenient location between George and Port Elizabeth, on the Garden Route, right off of N2|- Extremely large room. Fresh air (it's OK to leave the sliding doors open at night: the room is secure) and natural light. So quiet (except for the welcoming sounds of nature)|- Made-to-order breakfasts that accommodate dietary restrictions. In-room kitchenettes. Wine cellar|- An outdoor shower and a glass shower with outside views|- Extremely comfortable beds|- Strong WiFi, even though the rooms are not connected to the main house|- Attention to detail. Rooms are cleaned while at breakfast. Most everything is provided: Upscale toiletries, beer, sodas, water, fireplace in the room. Walking sticks, umbrellas, sightseeing brochures and information on service providers (massage therapists, etc.)|- Very reasonable rate for the quality||What could be improved:|- Nothing worth mentioning

Lynne and Owen could not have been more charming and more helpful hosts. The whole experience of staying at Tamodi was exceptional. It was genuinely like staying in a friend's house. None of the cabin fever that one gets with hotels. We could not have been more pleased with our choice and will return!
