When the one guy is working the poke counter, the food is gonna taste like industrial cleaner. I’ve mentioned this before and they didn’t do anything about it. I’m actually kinda tired of it!!! He uses some kind cleaner and doesn’t properly rinse it off. If literally anyone else is working like the auntie then you will be fine.

Google
The poke was amazing and the poke clerk is the kindest, friendliest person. She's really good! She said she was new but I couldn't believe someone inexperienced could mix such delicious poke.

Google
(2018: Some great Poke!) Revision NOV2024: How the mighty have fallen. No longer live on Oahu but I made my requires pilgrimage to Tamura’s for the requisite Poke bowl. However, the normally generous trays of delicious poke have been replaced with meagerly portioned allotments that are devoid of their traditional flavor and quality. Furthermore, the rice is separate and two scoops cost $8. In the end you feel ripped off and not satisfied. I regret their regression to mediocrity.

We got bad rotten crabs before Christmas and when I mentioned it next time I came the guy at the counter said that it’s like I’m asking for free food because I didn’t bring them with me. He is the one that is always there and I think he should have known that he used bad crabs to make poke (because the sauce was fresh, but crabs had rotten bad, kinda moldy taste ). When you’re buying something that $36 a pound you’re expecting it fresh.

Tamara’s has a nice selection of cigars right off base. Definitely will be back to check out their liquor when needed. They had pretty good prices and deals when you buy in bulk. Would recommend checking it out. Picked up a selection of Drew Estates cigars: Fat Bottom Betty, Sweet Jane’s, Crazy Alices, and Acid Kuba Maduros.

Google
Wide selection of liquor and wine. Service was great! We learned a lot about Japanese whisky and Irish whiskey. Poke is amazingly fresh, too. Will definitely be back!

Google
This is hands down the best poke on island. However, the last time I was in there they put the poke in a cardboard box with a plastic lid. The lid melted and bowed in from the heat of the rice. The bowl has separate compartments so the sauce was hard to get on the rice. The cardboard also made the rice stick to the bottom. I will likely stop buying bowls from them if this is a permanent change.

Google
I go here when I cant find something particular on base. Prices are pretty fair, I purchase rumchata and my coworker purchased it from off base at the mini mart...I paid less for the one purchased at Tamuras. They have lots of selections. They have various Poke dishes that is sold from the back of the store. Today I had lomi salmon and spicy ahi poke. It was very delicious for my first time tasting it.

Kaye G.

Yelp
Poke inside the liquor store!!! Definitely coming back! Poke was really good and it's pretty close to the beach!

Alex S.

Yelp
Paid 29.99/lb for spicy poke ... pretty expensive . Poke is good but other places have just as good for much less

John T.

Yelp
I was visiting a friend in Kaneohe and when I heard there was a Tamura's down the road, I had to stop by. I went with a pound of my fave which is the tofu poke. But I also tried a half pound of their garlic edamame. Both were absolutely perfect! The store is small but clean and I liked the variety of snacks/chips they had available.

Kim N.

Yelp
Hidden gem! Only local will know about this place. Thanks to Felix, we were able to find this place. Don't let the store name fool you. Give it a try! Honestly, this is our favorite spot and cheapest Poke Bowl we got in Hawaii. The fish was fresh and flavorful. Spicy Ahi melts in your mouth. The owner and staff were friendly and nice. He hooked us up on the fish. There are tables and chairs in front of the store to eat the food. There is plenty of parking. It is next to a supermarket.

Keone J.

Yelp
Not for LOCALS! Just went to the Kailua store and was reminded why I stopped buying poke from this place. Aunty was happy to fulfill my hamachi poke bowl order. Then I asked to sample another flavor poke but other guy not helping me intervened to remind they don't do samples anymore. Just then he saw her going for the hamachi and reprimanded aunty hamachi can't be served as a poke bowl!! Give me a break, up sale me! The customer is always right. Guess the guy saw me as someone trying to take advantage and not someone trying to have lunch and willing to go to his store knowing full well what kine prices I was going to pay. Fresh Catch is so much better!

Richard J.

Yelp
Okay this was the most flavorful poke that I have had in Hawaii, most of the ones close to Honolulu or more popular areas were not nearly as good. Tried 8 different flavors but did not take pictures of all...

Sarah B.

Yelp
The Spicy Ahi Poke Bowl #3 over rice is a burst of flavors, truly a delightful lunch option. The diverse selection of international alcohol adds a perfect touch to this culinary experience. Best lunch ever! I come here every time I visit Hawaii!

Roger P.

Yelp
Who would've thought that a liquor store would also have a full poke selection in the back? We visited after a friend recommended it, having said some of the best poke in Maui was from Tamura's. Unfortunately, our expectations fell short. I only got to try the Tamura's Special but that alone was so expensive. I would've thought their selection would be in the same price range as Foodland but not the special. On top of that, the marinade for the special was so thick and overly sweet. It would've done much better with rice than by itself. The only saving grace was the extensive alcohol selection.

Rayray 8.

Yelp
The Asian guy working on 8/26@1320 was so RUDE and had a sarcastic stupid answers. Can I do 2 choice fish...,, of course you can Well if you had better signs I wouldn't ask. Do you have unagi sauce..... well I do but it's for us to use for our recipes we don't sell add one. He should get into landscaping so he doesn't have to talk to people because he obviously does not like people

Shawna L.

Yelp
Tamura's used to be my go-to spot for poke bowls. I was craving their bowl yesterday & when I got there noticed they don't have their normal menu anymore AND they don't even offer furukake, or their sweet & spicy sauce. AANNDD after the bowls were done their portion size was way more rice than poke or kalua pig. I used to be fine with paying $15 for their old bowls, but now with their new portion sizes I probably won't go back. I was very disappointed and sad. I honestly had to go home to put on my own sauces & furukake. Still a good place to find your wines and liquors, but I wouldn't go back for their poke bowls unless they were to go back to serving how they used to.

Jessica N.

Yelp
Iykyk. This is one of the best places to get poke. Grab a bag of the furikake shrimp chips to eat with it. My favorite is the ninja ahi and the spicy ahi. The fish is super fresh and prices are fair.

Lisa B.

Yelp
The guy cutting the fish or whatever in the back was so extremely rude to my daughter when we came in, made her feel so embarrassed by saying some degrading shit to her, needless to say we left and ate curry from next store. This was in December, so I really hope he quit or got fired because he ruined this place forever for us. I've never seen such a rude interaction between a food prep person and a customer before.

Cassandra W.

Yelp
Guys this place was a disappointment. I agree with the reviewer who said the guy behind the poke bar has an attitude. He's very immediate and unfriendly and gives quick no's and carries no smile on his face. There was absolutely no welcoming or care shown through what he's doing. It's not appealing at all. I used to like this place, I used to see a line for it at lunch. But now there was no one in there, and also, weird I know but the poke tasted like it had gotten liquid dish soap on it which was awful. Tamura, consider changing up your staff behind that poke bar and show more love in your food

Lynne L.

Yelp
Nice selection of various price points of wines and liquors. And the poke selection is also great. Makes a shopping trip to this particular store well worth it!

Dinah H.

Yelp
Fresh delicious poke! In back of a liquor store. It was recommended to me by a local and I went 2 days in a row.

Steve Z.

Yelp
I frequent this location for the impressive poke, exotic spirits, and imported foods and cheeses. I don't drink alcohol anymore but sometimes a nice bottle of imported wine make a great gift. Staff is friendly but the Kaneohe location is far better in this regard, although the Kaneohe inventory is not as robust as the Aikahi store. Plenty of parking. Always pleased with my purchases here. Highly recommended. Mahalo for reading my review.

Alicia G.

Yelp
Poke guy wearing glasses has zero customer service skills. Rude and unprofessional no matter how friendly you are to him.

Heidi M.

Yelp
Sooo I normally love this place. Except DARRYL at the fish counter today was a complete A-hole. Was Nobody in line but us and all we wanted was a poke bowl but NO ALOHA of any kine. For no reason at all. Girls in the front were amazing but go somewhere else if u want anyone close to pleasant when ordering a simple poke bowl.

Angelo A.

Yelp
Stopped by Tamura's for my first time . . . you know, just to check it out . . . because I was in the area killing time. I knew they offered spirits and seafood/poke, but I had no idea that their spirit selection so diverse. I actually found a Kraken rum that was coffee flavored . . . who knew? I also didn't know they sold souvenirs - making it a nice place to pick up a unique Hawaii gift that didn't look like it came from Waikiki or the Swap Meet. Oh, and they have cigars, too. If I hadn't just finished eating, I would have picked up some of the very delicious looking poke. Lots of great reasons to stop by again!

Marie S.

Yelp
The Asian guy working in Seafood has got to go! Every time I go he has the worst customer service ever, or is it just with locals? He seems pleasant to the tourists who go to order, or is he just trynna make more of a sell to them. Today, I asked him for a small container of garlic (pickled) he asks me which one, only had one type of garlic in the case or was there a different one hiding somewhere else?! Idk, he needs more than a damn happy pill! I hardly go here thinking each time that I do go maybe the last time he just had a bad day, but nope sure enough here's Mr. Happy with another bad day of service! Management needs to check this guy's attitude cuz he makes the place look bad every single time! Thanks to the rest of the workers there who are friendly and for somewhat balancing his not so friendly attitude out, but c'mon man change your job if you're really not that happy.

Ward K.

Yelp
If I got stuck during a storm or something, I would run into Tamura's and lock the door behind me. I could live in here as they have an extensive wine, hard liquor, beer selection for everyone's taste. What you don't like any liquor? Don't worry beef curry they have water and handful of non-alcoholic drinks too. What else do we need during a storm? Oh yeah how about some of the best poke on the island as well as other snacks. Tamura's has one of the best selections of liquor as well as price! So if you know where to find me if we have a major storm coming or if I'm picking up a nice bottle of wine.

Edith S.

Yelp
My review is specifically for the cigars. Came to this location as I was running an errand in this area. I was told Tamura's was a great place for cigars and things but I think they suggested was for the Honolulu location. As soon as you walk in, and over to the left are two standalone humidor cabinets. Saw the 2019 review come out on cigars and was looking for Cigar Aficianados' #1 but no such luck. I asked a clerk for help as I was looking for the humidity control packets for my husband's humidor but they were all out of that, specific lighters and cigar cutters because I can't find which box I packed it in when I moved back to HI. Because I'm simply preserving and adding a few to my husband's cigar collection, I'm definitely not a connoisseur, but will smoke a mini cigar to honor my husband or to cancel out the smell of weed that my neighbors smoke. Luckily, all the way at the bottom, I was surprised to see the Oliva Serie O and quickly snatched one and thinking that I should've snatched a second one. For HI, these cigarillos are well priced at under $11 as they are selling online for over $16, not including shipping. Although, I didn't get what I came here for, there seemed to be a great selection of cigars and reasonably priced and great customer service too.

Yelp
I live 20 minutes away from this market, but I drive there every week to get my favourite poke, which is Fried Garlic. Since I have been going there for a while, Darryl already sees me coming in the door, and gets my order ready for me. Even if he has a line of people and they are contemplating what to get, he does mine in between and just hands it to me. On some occassions I was running late at work and was worried, there wouldn't be any left, I called them up, and Darryl put some aside for me. He is really kind. He makes me feel very special and appreciated. I also appreciate him VERY much. Compared to the ladies at Foodland that oftentimes don't even really listen to the amount I wanted, or give me an eye roll, when I ask them to put Chili flakes in. On another note: I also like the selection of liquors they have there. When I couldn't find one, they are so helpful to look it up and find it for you. For me Tamura's is the Place to go.

Charles C.

Yelp
Why is your Ahi price 24.99 per pound so high? According to the local news the supply is high. Come on!

David C.

Yelp
tammmmurrrrasssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. very good poki, probably among the best on the island. eat it. eat it. stop reading.

Reuben L.

Yelp
Took the gang for a Poke Bowl lunch. Arrived their before 12 noon and walked up straight to the counter, no line yet. Ordered Poke Bowl Sunrise & Wasabi Ahi Poke X2 and Kalua Pig & Sunrise. Some arizona sweet tea along side made it a great combination. To sum it up, all poke is always consistent in taste and flava. So goooood!! I also checked out there humidor and picked up a pack of Tattoos (petite size), my favorite cigar for a short break. A must stop for me when I'm around the area.

Sharon L.

Yelp
Hidden gem!! We had ono seafood before this and thought tamuras poke was even better. It's great because you can order by weight so it allows you to try a variety of flavors. We got the king crab garlic flavor and spicy ahi and Hawaiian ahi. The crab was a bit too salty for our liking but the two ahi flavors were amazing!! We also had a bag of tortilla chips and basically ate poke nachos at the beach. Highly recommend this spot for your poke fix!!

Brian W.

Yelp
There has been a few times where I have visited this place back when I first moved to Oahu in 2019. Usually, I would go for the Poke and it wasn't bad, in fact, it was good. There are a variety of selections you can choose from and customize your food the way that you want. But unfortunately for this place, the employees are what bring this place down alongside the increase in pricing. The food here is pretty good but there are a few things to consider before buying Poke from from here. The first being is that the food is cross contaminated. In the past I have eaten here and the fish was not crossed with shellfish, making it a good eat. Recently, I was rushed to the hospital due to a severe allergic reaction due to the cross contamination without warning. This may have also been my fault as I didn't ask but from prior experience, I have never had this issue. The second would be the staff was very rude. When I went to order my food, the man working gave me a very unpleasant attitude just for asking simple questions about portion and pricing. I immediately noticed the prices had been raised with the meal coming up to almost $30 and I still wasn't given enough rice to eat with my Poke. When I arrived to the counter to pay the cashier was just as rude. She had an attitude and seemed to be rushing me to pay. I will leave on this note, this may have been a bad day for them but do not be surprised if you're given the same experience.

May L.

Yelp
Two sad news were discovered today. Well first of all they no longer serve king crab with their poke bowls. And secondly the quality of the king crab has gone way downhill, with a bonus of a FLY. Ugh that is so gross.

Jay S.

Yelp
Just did carry out tonight. Large liquor store and fresh seafood menu Members of our party liked the poke. I can't judge but they said it was fresh and delicious so I'll give it an average

Kara G.

Yelp
Tried the garlic snow crab poke for the first time & was very disappointed. The flavor was ok but the crab was completely dried out!! That was terrible. Plus, there wasn't much leg pieces. However, their other pokes that I've tried are delicious. My two favorites are the tsunami & ninja ahi. I did not appreciate that the women who helped me didn't use a slotted spoon. So I overpaid because there was quite of sauce in my container. I should have said something.

Paolo R.

Yelp
After moving here, I started searching for fresh poke. A local guy recommended this wine and liquor store, which amused me. But he wasn't kidding. Their poke selection is great. You can order it by the pound or, as I do, order a poke bowl with rice. For those who love beer, wine and liquor, the selection is outstanding. The friendliness of the staff varies according to the day. Regardless, I will keep coming back.

Glenn R.

Yelp
I went to Aikahi Tamura's and ordered a poke bowl. I paid $15 for two small scoops of rice and 6 pieces of poke. The portion of the poke bowl was so small which was disappointing and left me feeling unsatisfied considering the price I paid. I brought it to the attention of the cashier, and he agreed and apologized. Do not buy their poke bowl, you'll be disappointed. Never again will I buy any poke from Tamura's.

Chelsea K.

Yelp
The BEST poke on island, hands down. Get the "ninja" and thank me later. The texture and the sweet/spicy combo is everything.

Paul G.

Yelp
Server was rude. They didn't have sunrise ahi this morning, no big deal. Avocados are in short supply. I asked if they stopped offering it and he didn't like my question I guess. He was basically a jerk about the rest of my order and then overcharged me. They charge extra for fresh ahi, so the ahi I bought was from frozen. He charged me extra $10/lb for fresh. Must of been having a bad day. They're not offering poke bowls, just poke by the pound.

Kurt V.

Yelp
This is the best poke on the island. It's a must try every time you visit. I recommend the special or the ninja.

Sue S.

Yelp
One of the great advantages of going to Hawaii when you get to stay with relatives who live there is that you get all the local tips. So when my uncle said that my cousins love the poke served at the back counter of this liquor store, I didn't question it. I just went to see. Sure enough, Tamura's is a totally legit beer and liquor store with a freaking legit poke bar in the back. You walk back to the back of the store and there's a cold case with a dude perfectly happy to hand out samples or dish you up a poke bowl on the spot. After much debate, I am ready to say this was the best poke I had while we were on the island -- and that IS saying something since I pretty much ate poke the whole time I was there. A close second was the poke at Nico's. But this poke bowl from Tamura's was the best - texture, taste, rice, umami and of course unangi sauce that I just love so much. So much goodness in one bowl. Oh, and the beer selection did not suck. We found several singles we wanted to try and left a lot of stuff on the shelf that we can get at home. But man, if I lived nearby, this place could be really dangerous.

Mads A.

Yelp
Good selection of wine and sojus. Delicious spicy mayo ahi poke too! Cashier is friendly.

Aly W.

Yelp
Went in right before closing to purchase poke, I quickly learned that they stopped selling it at 8:00 p.m. While in there, I still purchased a bottle of cider. It was in the back case and was a BlackBerry one. I meant to get a picture but I forgot. It was delicious. They did have 6 packs of cider but I had already tried the few that they did have. The 2 people working that evening, a man and a woman, were both friendly. Definitely stop in for poke!

Alex Elaine H.

Yelp
Where do you get the best poke? Tamura's! It may not be what comes to mind first, the back of a liquor store, when you're looking for a great spot to grab a bite to eat, but trust me Tamura's won't let you down. They offer a huge variety and the staff their know their stuff. They will take the time to explain the different pokes and even let you sample. Personal favorites, you can't go wrong with spicy ahi and sunrise.

Mark B.

Yelp
My favorite place to grab a poke bowl or a couple pounds to bring to my parents house, some beer and a cigar or two. Located in the Aikahi Park Shopping Center next to Boston's pizza. Lots of parking. Can be a little crowded in the later afternoon/early evening times. The Poke: head straight to the back of the store. Made on location, ready for your party, beach picnic or poke bowl. Many too choose from. If you haven't tried a particular one don't be shy. Ask for a sample. More than likely you end up getting it. My usual pick is the spicy ahi or sunrise. I'll bring to my parents house the Tamura's or Ninja. Once a month I'll go with the spicy garlic king crab poke bowl. "Broke da mouf" Poke here is better than any of the supermarket chains in the area. Prices are about the same. The Alcohol: I go here for the Microbrew/Craft beers. They feature the local Hawaii breweries (Maui, Lanikai, Waikiki) and rotate some mainland (Sierra Nevada, Coronado, Belching Beaver) and international selections (Echigo, Delirium Tremens, Erdinger). Prices are reasonable. Cigars: Two large cabinet humidors full. It's locked so see one of the cashiers to open it for you. I'm a twice a month cigar smoker. My favorite so far- "My Fathers". Service has always been great. Don't be afraid to ask if you're looking for something in particular. They're always happy to help. This is my Kailua area stop for Poke, Craft Beer and Cigars. Too easy!

A K.

Yelp
Totally addicted to their fresh poke. The spicy ahi, the Tamuras sauce poke and OMG, the King Crab wasabi style!!! I also really like their kim chee cucumbers, kim chee tako, and the pipikaula. Great place to run in and grab drinks, some snacks, and the best poke on the island. Only thing is that I wish they would take AMEX cards.

Les L.

Yelp
After lunch at Nico's, I realized we were very close to this location of Tamura's, which is a local's hot spot for poke. Tamura's is mostly a liquor store, and a good one I hear, towards the back counter, which is filled with nothing but poke. Two construction workers were ahead of me in line and they both ordered the same thing. The spicy ahi over rice. The selection is pretty overwhelming. A big distinction was some were made of frozen fish and the other fresh. I only picked from among the fresh but it was hard to know what was what. It was a sea of ahi, unclear signs, unidentifiable ingredients. All I know is that I picked two made of fresh ahi, one might have been a Tamura's special, and I left. I remember they were good (sorry!)

Michelle M.

Yelp
Line was super long but somewhat expected on Christmas Eve; I was just glad they were open. Great selection. The guy in the poke department was nice and helped me get exactly what I needed. Rating would be a 5 if the cashier (I think his name was Will) would keep unnecessary/unsolicited comments to himself and try being pleasant or welcoming instead of acting judgmental. It might even make the line go faster. This is the second time I've interacted with him and the first time I let it go as I think maybe he was having a rough day. I now think it might just be his general demeanor. Next time if he is there I think I'll just make due with what Safeway has next door or go a little ways out to Times Kailua. We all have choices and we vote/support with our dollars!

Cassie S.

Yelp
My husband went in to buy a pound of poke after coming from Safeway. He went straight to the poke counter and up to pay, where he put his Safeway bag down on the check out counter to get his wallet out. The cashier looks in the bag, unprompted qnd without permission, and sees an instant rice among the things he bought and says, "We sell that rice here, show me your receipt." Him assuming that my husband was stealing was unprompted and insulting. We go to this Tamuras and usually have good experiences but unfortunately that won't be for a long time from now since I don't want this happening again.

Erin O.

Yelp
Was told about this place for poke by a friend who had lived in Oahu (otherwise would've never known). The poke was heavenly--and there were tons of different options that you could sample. We got bowls to go and took them to lanikai beach nearby, which I highly recommend!

Mike S.

Yelp
I used to buy poke from them when they were in Kaneohe and it was all good. Now at their new Aikahi location they must've hired a new poke chef cause all their pokes are spicy hot! I like spicy food and use Thai chilis in my cooking but this person uses excessive chili flakes and peppers! Even their ogo is too hot. Please go moderate and let ur patrons spice it up. Other than that I love Tamura's! Great ambiance!

Ben G.

Yelp
Tamura's has great fresh poke at this location. But the portion size in the poke bowls here is tiny compared to their other locations. They skimped me on the poke and Kalua pig and I left still hungry.

Kristen P.

Yelp
Possibly a 4- 4.5 star with some of the pokes but I was so impressed with the cost and quality of the tuna and yellowtail pokes that it deserves the round off. Yes it's a liquor store but defies imagination with an incredible selection. And the seaweed salad is fresh and standard but the garlic edamame is amazing. Jalapeño ahi, sunrise, spicy ahi with tobiko etc. all super good. Pair with a bag of taro chips and spreadable cream cheese and you'll be in poke heaven.
