Tamura’s Market in Wailuku is a hidden gem! Their poke is some of the freshest and most flavorful on the island — perfectly seasoned and generously portioned. The staff were friendly and helpful, making the whole experience easy and enjoyable while we picked out our flavors. I also loved their great selection of local snacks, drinks, and groceries. Definitely a must-visit when in Maui for poke lovers.

Very friendly and helpful. Great selections. Fresh produce. Awesome selections of meat and poultry. Onolicious fresh fish and superb poke bowls. Lots of parking space and handicap accessible.

Maui's newest grocery store is finally open for business after months of unknown delay (2020). They're located in the Millyard business park in between the Millyard Plaza and Wailuku Post Office. Parking is plentiful. Turning left out of the lot can be cumbersome especially on weekdays as this is a highly-traveled road. The store is quite large and was freezing cold inside. Decor is typical Tamura's - "plain Jane". I was hoping to grab some pokē but unfortunately the bar wasn't operational yet. The neighboring hot foods counter and ice cream bar were not ready either. Should't you open up with a bang? So disappointing! Tamura's stores are known for their immense wine/beer/liquor selection but here it was very limited as the focus is groceries. Head to their Kahului store instead for way more choices. The aisles are comfortably spaced apart so two carts can easily pass at the same time. Some shelves weren't stocked yet, I'm assuming due to just opening a few days ago. Asian and Hispanic foods and ingredients are quite good. They even sell Mexican-bottled sodas including Coke, which my spouse (and others) swears tastes better than American-bottled versions due to the lack of high fructose corn syrup. Tamura's also has self-branded items like rice, snacks and even bread. Seafood and meats are fresh but prepackaged. No butcher services are available. Most prices were very competitive to larger grocers, with in-store specials ringing in good deals, but some things were pricier. You just have to know the deals around town and where to get them. HIGHLIGHTS: - Automotive retail (car soaps, wax, oil) - Cigars - Fresh cut flowers (only protea when I was there) - Marinated meats/poultry - OTC meds - Pet food and accessories SERVICE: Only two of the five or so lines were open but cashier service was fast and friendly. I even received a "thank you", a rarity these days. TIP: ApplePay accepted. OVERALL: What could've been a 5-star review was marred by their pokē and food counters not being ready even a few days after opening.

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Overall: Come here if you want some good poke. Would I come back: When I have my poke craving indeed I shall be. The extended review... Food: Poke - 4/5 - There are multiple flavors of poke here. I got multiple including Tamura's sauce, Ahi Sunrise, and the Hamachi all of which were super tasty. Service: 4/5 - Friendly service. Ambiance: 3/5 - Just your normal super market atmosphere.

Google
Clean and organized shopping mart with a fairly wide selection of alcoholic beverages. The lighting is a bit dark, but everything else makes up for it.

Google
Got a few flavors of ahi tuna... absolutely amazing. Tasted so fresh and with dazzling flavors! Very reasonable prices. Definitely check it out!

Katie B

Google
The Ahi Tuna from the seafood bar was AMAZING! Specifically the Ahi Ninja and the Ahi Tamura Sauce. Opted not to get the poke bowl because the best part is the fish. Delicious. Highly recommend! Went here instead of going for sushi and it was definitely the right choice.

Jeannine

Google
Best poke! Large chunks of ahi. Kimchi mussels are on point, the spicy scallop poke was cooked to perfection. This rating is only based on their poke. nothing else.

Marko C.

Yelp
The best place in Kahului / Wailuku to get poke and pupu for your kanakapila. Everything I've tried here is ONO! They also have fresh island produce, fish, meats. Super reasonably priced. Get all your island local foods here!

Christine H.

Yelp
BEST AHI POKE IVE HAD. this unassuming liquor store had the best ahi poke i've had so far on the island (given i am a tourist). i saw this on tiktok and decided to give it a try and it did not disappoint. i got the tamura special ahi poke and seaweed salad to complement. the fish was SUPER fresh and a perfect mouthfeel. only wish is the pieces were cut a tad smaller but oh my gosh i will be dreaming of this spot until i come back one day

Cindy N.

Yelp
Really good variety and the tuna is so good here! The salmon is just ok. I wish there was more description on what the sauces were but overall pretty solid. Definitely one of the better spots on the island for poke.

Jordan B.

Yelp
I just got off a six-hour flight and was starving. The first question I asked my childhood friend (who's a Maui local) when he picked me up was "WHERE THE FRESH POKÉ AT!?" Cause baybaaaay I've been hearing about it for years and I finally had the opportunity to try some. My friend immediately took me to Tamura's Market for my first fresh Hawaiian poké experience. Tamura's is a quaint little supermarket with an extensive poké bar. After looking over what they had, I decided to get a bowl with spicy ahi tuna, kalua pork, and rice with furikake seaweed flakes. It was so good I scared that sucka down in like two seconds flat! All in all, my first Hawaiian poké experience definitely lived up to the hype!

Melanie P.

Yelp
When you ask people where is the best place to get poke, Tamura's is the most recommended place! The poke display is situated within Tamura's supermarket. Tje variety of poke, seafood, and side dishes is insane! They also have a well stocked liquor section that carries many Hawaiian liqueurs. Recommendations: Fried garlic Ahi Poke - This was so fresh and tasty! 1lb is 18.99! You also get white rice sprinkled with furikake seasoning. Easily feeds 3-4 ppl For alcohol they had

Krista D.

Yelp
The best poke we found in Maui is from Tamura's. They have lots of options, flavors are all interesting. We got both ahi tuna and we were craving some more after our trip to Maui. Service is fast. You pick two flavors for a bowl and they prepare it immediately.

Abida H.

Yelp
One of the best poke on the island!! Don't let the unassuming grocery store fool you -- it's definitely worth a visit and maybe grab some local snacks while you're there as well! A local spot, the market has several different poke options, mostly Ahi tuna in different sauces. We tried Ahi Tamura and Ahi Ninja, both were fantastic! They had a slightly sweet oyster sauce and the Ninja had a little kick. We also got a few bites of a garlicky dry rub Ahi on the side (forgot the name) but this was great as well. The lady helping us was super sweet and offered suggestions and her favorites! The chunks of fish are SO thick and fresh! I can't imagine it could get any fresher or meatier than poke at Tamura. Amazing find and can only hope we have time during our trip to return many times! I could eat this poke like it's candy. Note there is no seating but we enjoyed it immediately in the parking lot while still cold :)

Yana M.

Yelp
Amazing seafood available to purchase per pound, I love poke and fresh fish and this place did not dissuade. I got Japanese cooked scallop, sweet and spicy pipikaula , taro poke sesame, and if course fresh Ahi shoyu. All were very fresh and tasted delicious, also very reasonably prices by today's prices. Fresh ahi shoyu $24.99 per pound

Yelp
A must for affordable, fresh, and quick poke. They have poke bowls, or bowls with poke, kalua pig, and lomi salmon. They have a big variety of poke (my favorite is shoyu and Tamura's). Grab a poke bowl to go and enjoy it on the beach :)

Stella Y.

Yelp
Tamura's is a fairly small supermarket but of course I came for the fresh poke that was at the side of the store. The have fresh ahi in a bunch of different flavors including shoyu, salt and pepper, fried garlic, spicy garlic, and ninja just to name a few. The nice thing is you can get as much as you want and there's no minimum. Since I wanted to try a little of everything, I got 1/8th pound of all the flavors. Each flavor complemented the fish really well as it's more of a garnish. The fish itself was extremely fresh, not fishy, and melted as I chewed. Since I got about 8 containers, it did get a little too much to eat alone so I would suggest eating it with some chips or rice. Although it's delicious on it's own, it needs something else for additional texture. Not the cheapest but quality is great so it's worth it!

Tris W.

Yelp
Great location and sized grocery store for us hard working locals that frequent the post office next door, the credit union and other essential places in central Maui. Also perfect for visitors because they have souvenirs and local snacks etc. They have great, hard working employees and they have a good selection on produce, meat, seafood, snacks and groceries. They also have a decent liquor selection and ono poke. I also love that they have single sized poi from Hui No Ke Ola Pono for $3 something. Check them out.

Jessica L.

Yelp
Wish we came here on day 1 of our trip - we tried lots of places throughout our trip and Tamura's was the best spot. People will tell you to go to places like Foodland, but most stores use frozen fish. What's the point of being in Hawaii if we're eating frozen fish that was defrosted? I can get that on the mainland. Some quick research showed that Tamura was different. And man, you could taste the difference. That was a line even before the poke was open (opens at 11, I believe). So you know it's good. Lots of poke choices - you can't really go wrong! While you're waiting too, shop for some local Hawaiian goodies in the supermarket.

Michael K.

Yelp
Great local market with very fresh Poke selections made daily. There are many options for ethnic specialty groceries and super fresh produce options

Stephen L.

Yelp
We stayed on the other side of the island but were over in this area sight seeing and someone had told us about Tamura's if we wanted poke. I had the wife search for Tamura's and this was the closest location to us. Made the drive a few minutes away and I was a little skeptical pulling up. Just an ordinary store. Nothing fancy. Looked at the poke selection and was blown away. We got the Sunrise Poke and the Tamura's sauce poke. Grabbed a bag of tortilla chips to eat it with and killed a half lb of poke in the car in the parking lot before heading home. It was absolutely the best poke on the island. And we had several options to compare against during our week stay. I don't know if all Tamura's is the same but this one in particular was very good. Friendly staff too!

Derek W.

Yelp
Some of the best Poke in Maui! Glad I found this spot before my flight home. Very fresh and not over marinated.

Nic M.

Yelp
Poke in a random liquor shop? Hmmm sounds weird but we still tried it and could understand why all the locals sent us here. Poke was AMAZING and so fresh. Wish they served it with some salad instead of just rice and thought it was odd to charge for soy sauce on the side but whatever. Grab a bag of taro chips, get some sides and enjoy.

Lauren A.

Yelp
Decent fish deli selection 20.99/lbs... times or foodland has same for 12.99lbs but this place does taste better. You get what you pay for I guess. No protein bars sadly but GOOD prices for cut fruit when you're in a bunch. TBH there are other grocery on the island I would choose over this. Overall it's alright if you trying to grab only a few things on the way to beach or for the week. Very solid ahi poke tho.. probably one of the best.

Wayne H.

Yelp
One of the larger Tamura's Markets I've been too here in Wailuku. They have some of the most fresh fresh and a wide variety of not only poke but other items as well like fried tofu, pipikaula, garlic, and more. My favorite is the Garlic King Crab Poke but it's hard to find so when it's available highly suggest getting some. Their homemade pork grinds are also very tasty. They also have a wide variety of drinks from craft beer to various hard liquors.

Han L.

Yelp
Great poke. Fed 5 for forty dollars. One scoop of rice was enough for one personZ The standout here was tamura's special ahi. The flavor was perfect for the ahi.

Katherine B.

Yelp
Love their poi, ground pork and ground beef! They have pretty good stuff overall. Wish the poke was available earlier than 10:30 am.

Paul J.

Yelp
Looking for some unusual finds at a grocery store? Stop by Tamura's. Sure it's probably just another Asian grocery store, but if you're from off the island, they got some nice treats here that I haven't seen before. Good News and Rocky Road candy bars, Violet Crumble snacks, spicy Big Roll seaweed treats, P-Nuttles, etc. If nothing else, it's worth a nice air-conditioned break from the everyday before you head back to the coast.

Nadine Q.

Yelp
The poki there is definitely fresh and is good! Price per lb is expensive! Good snack finds too!

Kelly P.

Yelp
Poke please. We made Tamura's our first stop when we arrived on Maui. My husband ordered not one but two pounds of poke. We ordered two styles but I cannot now recall them. I do know they were rich and delicious. The store is a bit off the beaten path, but worth a visit for both poke and for wine and beer.

Joc V.

Yelp
Maui is almost an annual destination so finding this for the first time is shocking. What is not to love about this place--it is home to all my favorite things, things I would bring to a desert island (or Maui) to survive on: poke, Japanese whisky and cigars. I love me some poke and this is among the best I've ever tried. Their poke is ahi procured from the Honolulu Fish Auction, this amazing system that helps fishermen get the best prices for their catch and poke lovers like me get fresh, quality fish. Prices are way reasonable here because they're located in a residential neighborhood and not a resort area. This is day 2 of vacation and I've been here 4 times--the cashier has started to call me Joc. I'm inviting her to dinner tomorrow. And will serve her 3 different kinds of poke!

Amber P.

Yelp
If I could give this place a 0 star, I would but instead I have to give it a 1 star. I've been here before in January. It was awesome so I decided to pay a visit yesterday. Staff? 2/10. Rude. I asked for help, and I got the worst attitude you could imagine. Selections? 3/10. Shelves were empty. Produce & Meat doesn't look as fresh as I remembered. Poke? 1/10. The case did not look like the pictures offered on Yelp. I ordered $78 worth of fish since it was so awesome the last time, and I can certainly tell you it was not worth it. I definitely won't be back.

Maria P.

Yelp
This is a really, really great super market that is a welcomed edition to Wailuku town. They are located in Wailuku Industrial, right next to the post office. They have a few other stores on island, mostly geared towards liquor, but they finally opened up this grocery store (their biggest location yet) earlier this year and I have visited a few times since then. They have a wide range of products from national brands, to local brands, and a good variety of Asian products as well. The prices are reasonable and they have a good mix of a little bit of everything with a produce section, frozen goods, even a big aisle of candies and crack seed style treats. Did I mention they also have the same great poke bar similar their other locations? On my last visit, I overheard a worker (looked like a manager or even GM) assisting a customer and was impressed with his professionalism and desire to assist the woman, even offering to get the product that she was looking for as it was just delivered to the store. Wow, now that's customer service! If you need to make a grocery run, this is your place. There's ample parking that is always moving and the space is large enough to practice social distancing easily even when it's busy. Best of all, you're supporting local!

Thomas H.

Yelp
Tamura's Market is a wonderfully laid out store. We went in for Poke and walked into an amazing store that is clean and pleasing to the eye. From the snacks, liquor and beer selection they have all you need. Prices are good and reasonable with amazing selection of all liquors/beers. The poke is fresh and delicious: Ninja, Samurai, Fresh, and Spicy were our selections. Wish we would have tried the Octopus. The service is excellent and you feel very welcome. Good Place, Good Food and Good Drink `Okole maluna

Yelp
Some of the best poke on Maui! Large store, lots of parking. Had lots of my wife's favorite candy, Noms. Stopped here on our way back to Ka'anapali from up country. Picked up some t-shirts and hats too. Love this store!

Michelle S.

Yelp
Ooooo I like coming here. I've always passed by so many times but never stopped by till this past weekend. Walked in grabbed a wagon, mask of course to and went to our right. Oooooooo the poke station my favorite place to be. So many tiny selections to choose from. If you buy poke you will pay there. Then off you go so many products to choose from fresh meats and the prices are really reasonable. I got some groubd pork which was pretty cheap for a big tray. They also have fresh produce, toiletries, snacks, flowers, and of course alcohol. This is a cute little Ookas like back in the day. Staff are friendly, the store wasn't busy so it was a breeze to check out. I will be back to take my time in this store to look at more things, I noticed that they have certain things that other stores don't. Like certain cooking items. Certain spices and condiments.. They also have a nice size parking lot with plenty of stalls. Located next to the post office.

Christine M.

Yelp
Love this grocery store. I'm from California and one of the guys at Alamo car rental recommended this place for the best poke. it lived up to the recommendation. Got the poke combo with Kahlua pork and rice. YUMMY Picked up other groceries and local ingredients for our timeshare to cook with as most restaurants in Lahaina area were still closed. Highly recommend.

Cindy C.

Yelp
The poke here is excellent! As a tourist, you wouldn't think that one of the best poke in Maui can be found at a liquor store, but it's really a hidden gem. We got the tip from a local and she was 100% spot on with her recommendation. You can order poke on its own or in a poke bowl. They'll even package up the rice separately if you plan on eating it later. The wine and liquor selection is great too - reasonable prices and wide selection.

Yelp
Supporting local! Love the variety of Poke Bowls to choose from and choice of white or brown rice- topped with Furakaki (sp?), of course!

T. I. L.

Yelp
They have great poke! Especially the hamachi poke, it's absolutely amazing! A little pricey but my favorite by far.

Allie M.

Yelp
Picked up poke bowls at the counter. So many flavor combinations to choose from. Delicious, quick and easy for takeout.

Stephanie H.

Yelp
We came back to Maui and found that the old location was closed. We got to this location in Wailuku and the wave of relief when we saw the poke section is indescribable lol. We got a little bit of everything and it did not disappoint. I had been looking forward to this for 3 years. They don't serve the bowls the same way they used to but you get scoops of rice and the flavors are all still so amazing. I got in the car and couldn't even wait--my recommendation is to dig into it right away.

Kaison T.

Yelp
After sampling a series of poke spots this is the freshest tastiest and most reasonably priced! There are three locations but this combo liquor store grocery store poke market is the main one. Lots of locals here but a lot of tourists. Poke sells out every day by 6 pm.

Belinda H.

Yelp
Holy cow the poke here is the BEST FRESH poke!! I read on the Yelp reviews to come early as they sell out. It's true! I got here at 12:30 today thinking they open at 11:00. I was mistaken, they open at 10:00! A few items were already sold out. It just means the next time I come back, I need to get here extra early and try the flavors I missed out on. But what I got today was still excellent! Varieties of ahi poke, raw crab, salmon belly, and spicy scallop poke. The scallop one was my absolute favorite. My whole family ate all the poke and couldn't stop making mmmmmm sounds, it really is THAT good! So my advice, get there early!!! Oh, as a side note. We got poke from Foodland too and did a side by side comparison. Most of the poke that Foodland makes is from frozen fish, not fresh. It does change the texture once it's been frozen. Fresh is WAY better. I was able to get two varieties of poke from Foodland that were made with fresh fish and those two were comparable to the ones at Tamura's. But none of their made-from-frozen poke was any good compared to Tamura's. It's budget friendly, but not as good. Just an FYI.

Bong J.

Yelp
OMG! This is my poke spot! They have their own parking lot so parking won't be a problem. They have several varieties of beers and liquor and my favorite, poke! Come early to get alot of choices, arrive late and you'll have less to choose from but still great. It is nice to get a bowl of poke and chase it with beer at the beach.

Lisa Y.

Yelp
Their poke bar is much better than their Lahaina location. Also they have Asian groceries. Definitely will stop here next time I fly to OGG.

Edith S.

Yelp
ABSOLUTELY MUST! GO BEFORE 1pm. We got there at 2pm and they were almost all gone! The poke was amazing! Don't let this liquor store fool you. This was my favorite poke during my first trip to Maui. I tried others during my stay but this one I wanted to go a second time and fly one home! Staff was friendly and price is great!

Christine A.

Yelp
Fantastic market on our way to iao valley. Just grabbed a few things for an impromptu breakfast. Everything was delicious: pork and rice, matsubi, Ube haipia, Ube mochi, and Ube tapioca. Excellent prices and so fresh. Next time will try their poke!

Dalton F.

Yelp
Best poke on the island for sure! We've tried a ton of places and Tamura's takes the cake for sure!

Ecel D.

Yelp
Sad experienced. I ordered half lbs spicy crawfish and half lbs ahi sunrise. The spicy crawfish barely have any salt on it so you can only taste mostly the mayo. And i only got 4 pieces of ahi cubes and a lot of avocado on my ahi sunrise. This is so sad. I hope other customers won't experience this.

Trammie D.

Yelp
This place was okay. Barely had any snacks in the snack aisle but maybe their shipment didn't come on time. The have a great market bar for poke and other food to try.

Cai I.

Yelp
best poke we tried in hawaii, no frills in the ordering process and a reallt generous portion as well. would come back again lots of times

Nicole L.

Yelp
This review is for poke only. So happy that I chose to make this my last Maui meal before heading to the airport! I'm writing this review an hour later while waiting at my gate lol. Although they don't make bowls anymore, you just order however many scoops of rice you want, and purchase the poke by weight. After filling up on gas, returning our rental car, and getting through TSA screening, Tamura's poke still tastes delicious! My picture doesn't include all of the variety they offer, but they make them all in smaller batches (and make more as needed) so it all stays fresh.

Monique S.

Yelp
Best poke- hands down. No questions asked. Sesame Tako is my go to. Get the sweet chili pepper soybeans too. Mmmmmmmm.
