The house was beautiful and full of character. The rooms were clean and comfortable and our host was very friendly and helpful.

I did not have a good experience. On arrival I was left at the gate for twenty minutes on an extremely busy street as no-one answered the buzzer or the telephone though I was well within the hours specified. Nor had my call been answered when I tried to confirm my arrival time.. My room overlooked the parking, as there is effectively no longer a garden; the small area around the house has a pool surrounded by faux rock and broken earth, or parking. There is only a tiny garden at the front facing the noisy busy road. ||I was wakened through the night by late entry and early departures. People also spoke loudly outside my window for extended periods. Cars were left running, pumping exhaust fumes into my room. ||There was only one working plug extension in my room into which everything was connected through a series of wobbly adapters; the fridge, the kettle; the dim light, and my personal electronic goods. Despite the extreme heat, the aircon did not work. I asked for and received a fan, which was so loud I was obliged to turn it off to try sleep. Trying to remove the aircon plug from the wall socket, the plug came apart in my hands, exposing wiring whilst still connected to the socket. I showed this to the staff, but they did not seem in a position to do anything. My shower door was missing and a cheap plastic rail and plastic curtain were balanced on the top edge of opposing tiles to replace it. In the dining room, a smashed ceramic heater remained affixed to the walls.||There was a distinct impression that the guesthouse has not been maintained and is in need of attention.||

We were staying over for two nights from Durban to PMB for a birthday weekend. |Upon arrival at reception, the receptionist was not at all friendly or helpful. She spoke very little to us while we just stood and waited for guidance to our room. ||We completed the breakfast form at check-in and the form wasn't very clear. |It had a sausage option but did not specify you could only select one. |It had a number of egg option, but didn't specify how many you could have. |There were a number of things we didn't want from the menu (mushrooms, oats, fruit bowl etc), and requested 3 eggs instead, but we only got 2 without the staff letting us know when we filled the form or when they served breakfast to us. Better communication would be helpful. ||After we completed our breakfast form at check-in, the receptionist mumbled a few words and walked away. We didn't hear what she said as she walked away so fast and we didn't know whether she was annoyed at something we'd done.|After she walked away, she looked back at us after a while and said to follow her. We gathered she was taking us to our room after that. ||We had the Wanderer's room and it was a very tight space for two people with a big bed in the middle because of the headboard/window. We had to take turns walking around the room because the walk space was so minimal. |The toilet seat in our room was also damaged. |In the mornings the main door would open and bang shut- not sure if this was the staff/guests. But it was very noisy since the house is also small and you can hear people talking from their rooms. ||On the first day of breakfast, the staff again did not speak at all to us. The whole atmosphere was not good. |We sat at a table and drank juice while we waited for breakfast and after a couple of minutes, the staff brought out food and laid it on a different table and asked us to move there. |We didn't see the point of this as she didn't tell us why. She also didn't ask us nicely to move over. ||Overall, the only positive was that the BnB was close to the Golden Horse, where we were going for dinner. |If the staff were nicer, it would have made our stay more memorable and we would have felt welcomed and not eager to leave.

Room was well lit, warm with aircon and a nice shower. I slept in a King Size bed which was comfortable. The place has a wooden floor so it never gets cold.

A very friendly place to stay, welcomed us despite late arrival due to our hire car breaking down and needing to be replaced. Rooms clean and functional and decent breakfast. Our room was a little noisy.

We stayed at Tancredi with our three children. We loved the style of the house, the wouden floors and all. Breakfast was more than excellent. We felt safe and at home in our beloved Pietermaritzburg.

I had a great stay. The place is clean and has white linen on all rooms.||The breakfast is delicious and staff is friendly keeping to their moto "come in as a guest and leave as a family".||I will be working at PMB for the next 3 months and will be staying at Tancredi, its closer to the shopping mall and work and I found it to be safe.
