Today, I visited Heritage Tanglin Puff Since 1952 at Pek Kio Market & Food Centre (41A Cambridge Rd, Singapore 211041) for the first time. I purchased the Curry Chicken & Egg Puff and the Sardine Puff. Unfortunately, after trying both, I was disappointed to find that neither puff contained any actual chicken or sardines. Instead, both were filled with mashed potatoes—flavored to mimic curry and sardines, but with no visible meat.
The Curry Chicken & Egg Puff had a slight hint of egg, but it was predominantly potato filling with a curry flavor. Similarly, the Sardine Puff was filled with mashed potatoes and onions, flavored like sardines, but there were no traces of sardine meat at all.
While the crust was crispy, it lacked flavor, and most importantly, neither puff contained any meat, which I would expect for the price of SGD $2 each. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. I’ll stick to Old Chang Kee puffs, which are much more flavorful and generous with their fillings, including actual meat like curry chicken and sardines.
