Tango Porteño

I was very impressed with our whole night at this event. The food was fantastic. I had very low expectations but was thoroughly impressed with the food and service. The show also was brilliant, the band the staging and the dancers were all magnificent. It represented great value for money and was very entertaining.

This place was such a unique experience. Really felt like a good representation of the Argentine culture in Buenos Aires. The show was fun. The empanadas were not bad and they had all you can drink for their beverages. They had a dinner option, but we decided to just do the drink option, which was great for us. The show was about an hour and a half long. The area was in the heart of Buenos Aires and was fun to hang out there. All and all was a fun experience and I plan on taking my wife there when we come to Buenos Aires again.

Tango Porteño: A Last-Minute Highlight! We had time for one final activity in Buenos Aires before flying home the next day, so on Sunday, November 23, we decided to attend a performance at Tango Porteño, conveniently located near our hotel in Retiro. We had passed by the venue several times during our stay and were curious to experience it for ourselves. Because it was a last-minute decision, all of the floor seats were already booked. We were seated in the balcony section, which is open seating. It is worth noting that this historic building did not appear to have elevators, so the balcony may not be accessible for guests with mobility challenges. The view from the balcony was partially obstructed, and many people were moving around or switching seats to find a better angle. One pleasant surprise was that photography and video recording were encouraged. This was a welcome change from another tango show we had attended earlier in the trip, where all photography was strictly prohibited. The performance itself was excellent. It featured a wide range of themes, with tango serving as the unifying thread throughout the different acts. The live music ensemble, made up of talented and diverse musicians, brought great energy to the show and added to the overall experience. The performance lasted about two hours, which felt just right. After the show, we hoped to browse the gift gallery for souvenirs, but unfortunately, it was closed and unattended. Instead, we stepped outside and took some beautiful photos in front of the nearby Teatro Colón, which was spectacularly illuminated at night. We then walked a couple of blocks to find a quieter spot where we could safely hail an Uber, since the area directly in front of the theater was quite congested after the show. Overall, the entertainment value for the price was outstanding. We were very satisfied with the evening and glad we made time for this experience. Next time, we will be sure to book in advance so we can enjoy the show from the main floor rather than the balcony.

Tango show is a must. We booked show only, and they gave us empanadas as a little treat on arrival. They were amazing. The tango show was amazing, the choreography, the technique of the dancers. Everything was amazing. It is a must to go see when in Argentina

Top quality show, excellent service and food. We had a wonderful experience. The dancers and band were outstandingly polished, vibrant and professional. We purchased VIP tickets and felt we had the best seats in the house. Food and drinks were surprisingly high quality- we didn’t expect it to be so good as they serve 500 people within 1.5 hours. Waitstaff were efficient and friendly. Venue has a beautiful old world feel. Overall a theatrical experience must do and well worth the price.

​Wow, truly well done! My daughter and I were pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed the theatrical and artistic way the Tango was presented. The performance itself was a highlight. The only drawback was the transportation provided as part of the tour package.

A must when visiting Buenos Aires. Beautiful art deco theatre and incredible Tango show! We were so impressed by the dancers, the amazing live band and the beautiful setting. They offer various seating options including with dinner or show only. We bought our tickets in the afternoon at the ticket booth and opted in for the show only option. Got there about an hour before the show started to ensure we had a good spot. Next time we will try with dinner because it looked delicious.

One of our favorite experiences of the trip! We didn't understand the storyline, but it was amazing regardless. The tickets were reasonably priced, and the tables were clean, and they had various food and drink items. It was a lovely energy, and I'd absolutely recommend it!

The Tango show itself was great but the seating situation was odd. We paid for the better seats (without the dinner package) and were sat all the way in the back (the front row of the back section). Thankfully our view wasn't obstructed but we still felt a little annoyed that the upgraded seats were all the way in the back.

The mid rating is in no way a reflection of the dancers, as they were phenomenal. The show itself is a dazzling display of music, rhythm, and movement. I was mesmerized by the performance. The singer who came on in between dances had a beautiful voice, and sang the songs of Carlos Gardel wonderfully. There was such a wide variety of dances: Tango duets, groups, and an incredible cultural style of dance I'm unfamiliar with. The venue itself is big and beautiful, but unless you have floor level seating where you're looking up at the stage or at the edge of your level, your view might be skewed by a collection of heads. Being eye level with the stage and sitting at a long table with 7 people directly in front of me means I'm peaking through a small crowd to see without ever fully seeing the stage. It's just a poor design. The venue is also incredibly warm inside, we found ourselves sweating. There was also supposedly flooding in the bathroom, I was walking that way at the end of the show when some ladies came out and warned me. Aside from that, there is a real rip off in the wine they serve, they water it down and it tastes terrible. If you're going to attend the show, skip the wine and order Coke or water which comes bottled. We didn't do the dinner, as we had other plans earlier in the night, but they do serve empanadas as a snack. I don't eat meat, so my coworker asked if they had vegetarian options, and they brought me a small plate with caprese skewers which was a nice surprise on my end. The servers themselves were very attentive and accommodating. Overall for $45 usd the price is cheap compared to other shows, and I see why. It's okay if you're on a budget, but it might be worth it to splurge for a better venue elsewhere.

10/10 must do if you're in Argentina and haven't seen a tango show! Food was amazing and the portions were huge! Wine was flowing all night. The dancers were spectacular and came around pre-show for photo ops. The opening act was entertaining and when the show began, it was a magical performance by all. I loved the story line and the art behind it all. Best part was after the show, I only had to walk across the street to my hotel! You can come dressed as you like but most people opted for a dressy night out. I had a great time in my solo business trio and this was a nice treat to myself to indulge in the formal tango culture.

Do I know much about Tango shows? Nope. But this did impress me not only with the dancing but the expression on their faces. For 55K Argentinian pesos that comes with 2 meat empanadas and almost unlimited wine(red or white) and coke, I think it's a good deal.

Me and five friends did the dinner and show and were all completely amazed! The food exceeded our expectations and the show was so fun. It was more than janitor tango dancing and every employee went above and beyond. The performers, the band and our server were just wonderful. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone visiting Buenos Aires!

Excellent show! The entire event was magical. The dinner was good, but our steak needed a bit of salt and it could have been more tender. The wine was tasty and champagne as well. We had appetizers and desserts- very classy presentation. Dancers were extremely talented and the show had for everyone- I liked the musicians were above the dancers and not below as theatre performances are. The theatre was full on a Monday night!! The theatre is in a good location because of its tourist attractions such as Teatro Colin and the Obelisk centered in a Avenue of Hotels! I recommend the dinner show. We sat in the "pink section " 80,000.00 pesos October 23, 2023.

Great food, great service.... but.... AMAZING SHOW. Very talented performers, band was amazing. Hotel coordinated pickup and drop off very well done.

It is a rarity that the show and the food are both exceptional....usually a great show...only has so-so food-but here they did a good job. Also-make sure you get tables right at the stage....the back of the room tables are blocked as people stand up to watch the show...and block you view....they do have a balcony view but I do not think that is with a dinner...it's a show only ticket. From a cost, be ready to pay.... Our young adult children were captivated and impressed which is no easy task.

We arranged this event through our hotel. Our package came with a ride to the event and back to the hotel. They picked us up promptly, the chofer was really nice, dropped us off right in front of the theater, once there, we paid with card and then were accommodated immediately. We chose the highest tier (80,000 pesos) to get better sitting and better wine too. The theater was absolutely stunning, and the tables were so nicely set, looked very fancy. They had told us to be nicely dressed and that sandals were not allowed but I saw a couple of ladies with sandals and some dressed very casual with sneakers so I don't think they're very strict on the dress code. Our waitress and waited came shortly after and introduced themselves to us and explained that we had to pick an appetizer, a main dish and a dessert, our wines were also unlimited but of course, since I don't drink, I asked for an orange Fanta and some sparkling water. The little cracker and bread that was already on the table were super yummy but there was no butter anywhere until we asked for some. I started with an onion soup, small portion but very very delicious. I then had the beef ravioli as my main course and it was really really good as well, the waitress kept refilling our drinks in a nice timely manner and they seemed very attentive of our needs. I had started eating when a professional photographer came to the table with some tango dancers for us to take photos with, it was nice but the timing wasn't because I had to rush and make sure I didn't have anything on my teeth from the bites I had already taken and didn't want my food to get cold. After I finished my main course, they brought the dessert, I chose the sampler plate because the other two options were both chocolate mousse or chocolate cake. My dessert was ok, I had a scoop of dulce de leche ice cream on top of a chocolate cookie, some dulce de leche spread across the plate, some guava paste with cheese and a little flan which was probably the best in the plate. I tried a bit of them all but they were overly rich for me, that I didn't really care for them. Plus, I was full from my meal so I would have preferred a sorbet or something more aire and light. Their dessert selection was a bit disappointing. The show started maybe an hr after arrival, which was also nice because I was able to focus on eating and then give my full attention to the show without missing a bite. The show itself was soooo lovely, the dancers were fantastic. They had a variety of styles within the tango realm. There was a man that was singing, he sang very very well, however, sometimes it felt like it was dragging on his songs so I wish that part was a little shorter. I enjoyed my self and so did my 3 other friends, we ended up buying 2 of the professional photos we got taken, and we left very very pleased. I think the price was just right and the food had big enough portions to satisfy our hunger. It was about a 3hr event, good enough to enjoy. When the show was over, someone came over our table to inform us that our driver was waiting outside, to our dissatisfaction, we never found the driver and got tired of looking around so we decided to walk back to the hotel since it was only a (20 min walk, and we are New Yorkers, we walk everywhere) plus it was a nice night to do so, however if it would have been cold or we would have been too tired, then walking wouldn't be of preference. I think if you are visiting Buenos Aires and want to have a good time and get a nice experience of authentic Argentinian Tango, this is the place to be. Def recommend everyone to do this show at least once!

The show was wonderful. The service left a bit to be desired. They push you to take a picture with the dancers and then try to negotiate the price with you in the middle of the show so they can catch you off guard. I saw them do this to numerous people, and it was distracting when I was trying to enjoy the show. They also closed out our tab immediately after ordering 1 glass of wine without asking us if we wanted anything else. Hello everyone! Well I can absolutely confirm that it absolutely does take two to tango! LOL! On our recent trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina which was awesome I may say, our group wanted to take an evening and take in a nice tango show. Truth be told we have been to other Tango shows in the past in Buenos Aires at "El Viejo Almacen" for example which was great but we wanted to experience another venue. Not a problem as their are no shortage of tango shows in Buenos Aires but after some discussions with a few natives, we settled on heading over to "Tango Porteño" and we were happy that we did. Quick note on "El Viejo Almacen" is that it is one of Buenos Aires original and oldest tango venues but it is in a more questionable area of Buenos Aires. If you decide you want to check them out as well on another night, make sure you UBER or taxi to and from the venue. Ok, on to Tango Porteño! So I think it is Important to note that Tango Porteño have options that include both dinner and a show, if you want to show up a little earlier and have dinner. We opted to have dinner prior and then head on over for the 10 PM showing. The theatre venue was very, very nice and really had an old Las Vegas lounge sort of feel to it when you walk in. Tango Porteño is also located in a great area of Buenos Aires but you definitely want to UBER or take a taxi. Once inside, I noticed that seating was at tables and booths that from my perspective all would provide great views of the show. We paid a little more to be closer to the stage, which also included two drinks for each of us. That said, we all thought the show was great as it consisted of a very tasteful combination of singing, tango dancing, folkloric segments; also, a wonderful sextet playing on their own and as accompaniment for all the tango dancers. All songs were traditional Argentinian tango songs, some obviously made famous by Carlos Gardel (national hero) and their interpretations of all songs were excellent. The sextet and all the dancers were amazing and really kept us entertained and longing for more when the show was over. Outside of the dancers and the singing there was also a folkloric group that paid homage to the Argentinian "Gaucho's" (aka Argentinian Cowboy Culture). They incorporated the use of "Bolo's" used by the Gaucho's into their act which was stunning to watch. You really have to see it, to appreciate but take my word for it as I am sure you will enjoy it. Now it seems that most of the evening Tango shows in Buenos Aires do incorporate some sort of homage to their cowboy or indigenous culture which I personally think is awesome. Great way to learn a little more about the Argentinian culture if you ask me. As mentioned before, plan on an UBER or taxi, for a carefree evening. If you are staying in the area though, you may consider walking as their is plenty to see in that area of the City. Overall, we really enjoyed the show and I would highly recommend Tango Porteño if you are looking to take in a tango show. Wishing you all a great stay in Buenos Aires as well. Being in Argentina, watching a tango show is a priority. I don't know why I was under the impression that a tango show was solo one on one performance, but this was actually a play with several dancers and performers with a story/theme line. We got the package which included the show and dinner. We were picked up at hotel and brought to the theatre. After check-in, we were seated by our hostess and our orders were taken. Before dinner is brought, you get to take picture with a female or male dancer, depending upon your gender and they sell you those photos. Dinner was a standard 3 course meal with appetizers, main entrée and dessert. For appetizers, we went with empanadas, and steak for main entrée that came with mashed potatoes and it was a strip. Dessert composed of various treats like cake, flan, pastry, brownie, rice pudding etc. Our food was good. Steak was good too but I had better in other restaurants in the city. The show itself was fine too, although it was below my expectations. I guess I was looking forward to a one on one dance rather than a theme based play. They had a band accompanying all the various scenes etc. I definitely recommend a tango show, if you happen to be visiting Argentina.

We were so excited to see this show as a special experience while in Buenos Aires. Dinner was served an hour before the show, and the food was disappointing to say the least. The appetizers were decent, however the rest of the meal left a lot to be desired. The pasta was the texture of having been reheated multiple times, making it very dry. The steak was ordered medium and the steak given was not only completely rare but there was a huge chunk of gristle making the actual amount of edible steak about half the size. One in our party had a dietary restriction for gluten, and when the server was asked of a simple accommodation (literally just not adding a cookie to the plate) it was denied and they were served a plate of fruit instead. The performers were talented skill wise but the tango itself did not feel authentic to true Argentinian tango. However, we very much enjoyed the folklore piece, almost to the point that we wished the show was just that. At the end of the show they even tried to sell us photos for an exorbitant amount. For the expensive cost that we paid, we were very disappointed at the experience we had. We wouldn't recommend this tango show for those visiting Buenos Aires.

Great Inexpensive Tango Show Walk to the box office or book the show only option online. Had a great table in the Art Deco theater near the stage for 450 argentinian pesos. The 90 minute show was nonstop. The dancers, singers and musicians-including accordions, violins, bass, and piano were great.

Top notch dancing, musicianship, and storytelling featuring tango AND musica folclórica criolla (the energetic malambo which Alberto Ginastera so effectively blended with 20th century European art music)! You will not be disappointed. Optional food and drinks can be enjoyed before and during the show as well.

It was an amazing show and I would give it a 5 if the management would have enforced the request (that they gave the crowd in 3 different languages) to Not Film or use flash photography! We were 3/4 of the way back from the stage and as soon as the lights went down about 15 people in front of us started the BS with the phones. Very distracting. But the show itself was so great with the awesome musicians and fantastic dancing!!

I was not sure what to expect because I deiced to go to the show only which was only 420 pesos or $28 ! which is so inexpensive but I was just blown away. The theater is beautiful and so grant. The staff is super sweet and friendly, I ordered a drink and they did not have it so they went above and beyond to come up with an alternative. Just so so nice. The show was fantastic ! it included 12 people live band with live singing by a solo man and a woman act and different styles of tango from classic, contemporary to ballet like. The costumes were colorful and beautiful. It does not get better to be in a heart of Buenos AIres and see this performance.

I paid for the supposedly good seats to show that included drinks and empanadas. the view of the show was blocked for both my husband and myself due to the table of others placed in front of us. The empanadas were tasteless and overall this was a disappointing experience.

For an entertaining night in Buenos Aires, the Tango Porteno-Cena Show will for sure take your breath away. From the moment I entered in the theater, I could not help but be amazed at the size and the beauty. Because this had been booked through the tour company, I was not expecting the dinner to be equally great with waiter service. With our whole family, we were able to try everything and we agreed that for a typical dinner and show the food was better than most. After the dinner was the tango show - a nice variety of dance and music. With the musicians and artists highlighted, it was great to see how integral the music is to tango as is the dance. And the dancers surely could dance! It was as if they were gliding across the stage. Remember to bring money for tip! The cost of the package does not include any tips you are "recommended" to give to the wait staff. Overall, the Tango Porteno-Cena Show is worth going to if you want to be entertained and well-fed by the end of the night!

So I never knew that Argentina is where the tango started. My friend and I couldn't leave BA and not see a show. Everyone recommended this place to us and we now know why. The whole time my eyes were glued to the stage and the women they had dancing were freaking hot. God blessed this entire continent, maybe we should import some to our neck of the woods. Make America Beautiful Again!!!!!!!!

Surprisingly good production includes a mix of individual and choreographed tango, tango in skits, and boleadores rapping beats on the floor. The live "band" and contador add bright color between costume changes. The shows start at 10:15pm. Although they offer dinner in the theater before the show, many guests eat at the plentiful restaurant choices nearby.

BEWARE, this is just a tourist trap with rude customer service and horrible food. They will not change the tickets you buy, they will not give refunds either. They would not even help the hotel concierge. The concierge told me this is one reason they do not recommend this tango show to the hotel guests. We went anyway, the wait staff was good. The food was horrible. The show was pretty good. Oh and they will take pictures of you and they are pricey ($20 USD or $880 Argentina Pesos, which was $23.60 USD today). Just go to another tango dinner/show or do the show only and eat at one of the other great Restaurants in Buenos Aires.

Fantastic show well worth it. A must do while in Buenos Aires. I elected to purchase seats Show + Drinks. Even if I only had a beer, you get sited next to the stage. One huge tip. The tickets are more economical if you get them from outlet getyourguide.com. You will save money doing so. Warning, The pictures they take of you at $20 each are not worth it. They do it because most people cannot say no.

The show is amazing but the food is not, our driver picked us up late and we lost 20 minutes of the show without any apology, the wine is cheap and the food is not good. If you like to enjoy the show just buy their cheapest ticket and enjoy the performance.

Go somewhere else!!! Not sure where the 5 star reviews came from. We booked through a travel agent and it's USD 100 per person. At the time the FX rate was19.5 pesos. We arrived early and asked whether the seats were good and got reply saying there are all reserved seats. We ended up to the corner in the front where the view is ruined and the theatre was only 25-30% full. So at least the ticketing service was terrible as she could have explained better, such as if we wanted better seats, we could pay some extra. Food was mediocre, just mediocre. They made the dinner time so long, not because they serve you a lot food, but they have so called photographer and tango dancers come to take photos with you and sell them to you later. I know very well that Tango was born in BA during the chaotic times and other stuff. But here they just want to monetize it. It's not s place about art, culture or joy, but just commercialized tourism. You should spend 3 precious hours in BA and money on sometime else for sure.

Tango Porteño was pretty good. The food was good, and so was te service. The thing I didn't like about it was the show, but I personally don't like tango, for a person that likes watching tango it would be amazing. The after party was LIT! I recommend this tango.

This place surpassed my expectations. I thought it would be mediocre food and tacky tango dancing and sadly, I was right on both accounts. Yes, the service was good, but seriously, a 11 piece band comprised of a piano, a bass, a cello, 4 violins and 4 accordion players? Amazing that they charged $130 per person....
