Just had an amazing stay here. Craig (owner) provides high level hospitality by going above and beyond to ensure everyone staying here has the best experience possible. Excellent location for nature lovers with lots of hiking and outdoor adventures nearby. Breakfast and Coffee also fantastic each day. It was an easy choice to adjust my itinerary and stay here an extra night. Thank you :)

We had a wonderful stay at Tanigawa Valley Lodge & Coffee Roastery. The host Craig is truly exceptional — friendly, hardworking, and constantly going out of his way to make sure guests feel comfortable and taken care of. The location feels remote in the best possible way, offering a peaceful and authentic Japanese experience surrounded by mountains and nature. And the coffee… wow. Hands down the best coffee we’ve had in Japan. Highly recommended for anyone looking to slow down, relax, and enjoy genuine hospitality.

Tanigawa Valley Lodge is a wonderful place to escape into nature. In the mountains of Minakami it’s calm, peaceful, and surrounded by breathtaking greenery, flowers and unique wildlife. I especially loved the rooms with tatami mats, give a truly authentic Japanese feeling. Every morning there is a different homemade breakfast, and you can also order a coffee to start the day. A short 5min walk from the lodge there is a clear and refreshing river where you can cool off in the summer heat. The whole area is perfect for hiking around the Tanigawa mountain, and for those looking for adventure there are also activities like rafting and canyoning nearby. If you’re looking for a relaxing stay in the heart of nature with lots to explore this is the perfect place!

It was a great place to cool off after some exhausting days in Tokyo. Everybody was helping us with our needs. After mentioning that about our vegans in the group. The staff was eager to prepare a vegan option for the breakfast as well. The overall changing breakfast was great as well. Craig was desicated to get us around and share his information and best locations with us. We had a blast here. The family-friendlyness was ideal for us as well. We were quite sad that we had only one whole day here. It was a great detour and worth a trip anytime (winter, spring and autumn). Thank you for the time and hospitality.

Perfect place to stay for nature lovers, surrounded by greenery and beautiful mountains. The futon were comfortable and the breakfast/coffee were delicious. There were boardgames and blankets in the lounge area which was very cozy. Craig, the owner, was so helpful and went out of his way to help us arrange a kayak tour. Would definitely come again!

This is the place your nature and adventure loving heart is looking for. The owner, Craig, is very helpful, kind and courteous. He stepped in and helped plan our Whitewater rafting trip, or travel to and from many of the surrounding activities and travel to and from Tokyo. He is very knowledgeable and seems to enjoy making sure his guests have the best stay in the area. The Lodge is incredible! Peaceful, surrounded by nature, hiking trails right outside the doorstep. Not to mention the coffee. He roasts it and it is so great to be able to get a decent cup of coffee when traveling. Thanks for all you do Craig!

Do you like the mountains, rivers and outdoor adventures? Do you wish to experience a traditional sleep over surrounded by an amazing scenery in the Japanese countryside. Don't look further than Tanigawa lodge. The amount of onsens, restaurants, activities or sublime nature spots are a big plus regarding the location of this amazing lodge. If you're a coffee lover, you knock at the right door, the owner is roasting his own coffee and giving you the best advice to make sure you experience your morning brew in the best way possible. Passion and care are at the center of the mindset that this beautiful couple and their staff are putting in the work on a daily basis, so don't be shy to ask any questions, they will kindly reply to your needs and try their best for you to feel at home. The breakfast served are one of a kind. Usually typical style Japanese plates, with homemades baking, granola and fresh fruits, to make sure that your body thrives and you get the energy to go explore the surroundings !

Host and Staff were very friendly and helpful, a blessing while in a foreign country and needing some direction! Can’t say enough they were great! Setting and location is beautiful nestled in the mountains, was perfect for hiking and sightseeing Mount Tanigawa. We choose the traditional mats for sleeping and would do it again. Coffee roasted at the location was amazing. You will run out of time before things to do.
