In town for a work event and enjoyed a lovely meal at Tannin. I ordered the prix fixe menu, started with a glass of Rose and did just a taste of Barbera with my entree. The portions on the prix fixe were so generous that I ended up taking some of my entree and my dessert home. I highly recommend it. The only thing I would've done differently is ordered the pairings. That would've sent it over the top! Service with Maggie was great! She timed my courses well, was knowledgeable, and appropriately attentive. I was reading a book while I ate and I never felt rushed! FWIW the lamb changed my mind on olives!

Visiting Kansas City for the weekend, followed recommendations on Google and Boy were we surprised… great little find, amazing wine and even better food. Great service and atmosphere highly recommended if you’re visiting downtown Kansas City.

We did the Hannukah menu and it was SO good. 3 courses for $55 and the portions were a good size. Definitely worth the money. The brisket was perfectly cooked. The dessert was good. The service was great. Everyone was so nice. Wine is good as always.

I went here for the very first time with a bunch of girlfriends! We were there to celebrate my birthday! I had a blast and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to have it at. The atmosphere was super cozy and the servers were very attentive to our table. They made sure that we were enjoying ourselves! The food was absolutely amazing! This is a gem in Kansas City!

I was excited to finally try Tannin, but was not as impressed when I arrived. It was extremely noisy and we couldn't hear each other talking. We all thought the food was excellent. There was a mix up on the wine I had ordered that I believe would not have happened if the server had explained the menus to us. Would I go again. Yes, but only if I were joining friends for a couple of glasses of wine. Dinner would probably be enjoyable if weather permitted dining outside. My suggestion would be to either find a way to separate the dining area and bar areas, or specialize in one or the other.

We’ve visited Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen many times, and we’ve had nothing but great experiences here over the years. The staff is always kind and down to earth, and they serve some of our favorite food in KC with a smaller menu. Kris was our latest terrific waiter. He’s someone you’d love to serve your table every time you go out. It certainly feels like Tannin management sets and maintains a high bar for service with their staff, because they are consistently awesome. We enjoyed the cheese board as an appetizer and ordered the Stuffed Pork Chop and Pesto Genovese Gnocchi for the main courses. The cheese board was solid, per usual, but this was the best pork chop I’ve ever tasted, and the gnocchi was delicious as well. We concluded the meal with the Fudge Stuffed Peanut Butter Cookie, which never disappoints! While this bar is known for its extensive wine menu, we keep coming back because of the food, the service and the atmosphere. I’d highly recommend you ask for a booth in the back — it’s a perfect setting to have a quieter evening and enjoy an excellent dinner!

Spent a Sunday afternoon here just enjoying some glasses of wine and conversation. Great place to come if you’re looking for a low-key atmosphere and a place to chat with friends.

Google
Tannin was phenomenal! The staff, drinks, food, atmosphere! We started with a round of espresso martinis, hands down the best in KC yet, we had 3 each by the time the night was over. We ordered the wagyu burger, Amish chicken, and Red snapper. All delicious, full of flavor, and big portions. This was a girls night out, so we we went to Mineral Lounge first and then Tannin. Sister restaurants and highly recommend both!

Yelp
As a regular to the Tannin Wine Bar and Kitchen, as well as a wine club member, you just can't go wrong checking this establishment out. We had the spinach Caesar and the tomato soup, both amazing. We also decided to get the wine and cheese selection and a bottle of white wine from our collection. Barry always ensures we have the best pairing!

Yelp
Discovering Tannin way too late... In the downtown area, dinner options can be slim-pickings on Sundays and Mondays. Tannin, discriminating against no days, is open until 11pm or later every day of the week. The cocktails are great, the wine is too, and with a happy hour menu featuring fries and hummus, I am indeed happy. No notes, been back multiple times, go Tannin.

Yelp
Best Late Night Menu In Downtown If you want to dine past 10pm and you're around crossroads then this is your place because they have a full menu dedicated to late night eats, and I'm not talking your basic bar food. Tannin is know for not only its divine dishes but also its dining experience and that doesn't suffer once the sun goes down and the city winds down. I've found myself desperate for a place to eat past a certain hour and now, Tannin always scratches that itch. The menu isn't dumbed down, it provides the same class as the regular Tannin menu just a paired down version of options. If you want the best medium rare prepared burger in the city this is my pick, of course you may order your burger any way you wish but when the quality of meat is up to par dare to go mid rare is what I always say. Tannin knows how to listen to its customer, your steak will never be under or over done (in my experience) and your burger will always melt in your mouth and be succulent. The fries are also something to be admired, simple the way a fry should be but salted with flaky rough sea salt that pops in your mouth, the inside is fluffy and delectable. Truffle can be hit or miss, when truffle oil is overused it's a sad excuse for luxury however, when it's used right then, it hits the umami taste bud HARD. Tannin, of course, has perfected the truffle fry because it in itself had perfected everyday luxury, at least in my book. The happy hour here is wonderful, the dinner service always seems to go off without a hitch and the after hours service is stellar. If we're talking appetizers on the happy hour offerings then definitely order the crispy shrimp (which is also on the late night menu) it's lightly fried and drizzled with a scrumptious sriracha sauce that is creamy and slightly spicy, think bang bang shrimp but less messy. The mussels are also always executed well and what pairs better with a glass of white? But, back to that burger...it's probably my top wagyu burger in the city because let's face it, most times I can't tell the difference from a regular degular burger and the wagyu variety. That is not the case at Tannin, here you can taste the quality difference in the beef especially if you order it medium rare like I do. The garlic chive butter, bordelaise sauce, and aioli were all rich components that make this burger beyond decadent. A glass a red, this burger and a pile of truffle fries are everything I need to die happy in life. Tannin and I have been thick as thieves for about 10 years and I don't see that changing anytime soon, it's a step above when it comes to service, sommelier expertise, and food quality. Also, the price hasn't fluctuated too much in 10 years and that's a rarity. It's a diamond of a restaurant, nestled by some really cool lofts and small local businesses...one of those if you know you know places but, it's always lively. Come to be seen and come to eat drink and be merry

Yelp
Love this place! It has ambiance, style, great food and wine selection (even on the happy hour menu). The space is quite open and the service is always good. We love coming here!

Yelp
Entered a few minutes before the kitchen closed and was not disappointed. The server was friendly, patient and informative. The burger was delicious and truffle sauce complimented the fries. The cookie was delicious and coffee perfect.

Yelp
KC's Crossroads area has a zillion spots at which to eat or have a drink, but there are some that have that certain something that set apart from the crowd. Tannin is just that kind of place, charming enough to be intimate and relaxed enough to be chill. If I'm in the frame of mind for a wine bar, then I'm down for drinks and shareables. You should do the cheese plate, an array of cheeses with some crazygood housemade lavosh. The prices on the pours (either 2 oz. samples or a standard 5 oz. glass) are pretty much on par with the area and the selection is phenomenal. Whether you get with red or white, there are many options on either side. My lovely wife loves her bubbles, so a touch of Prosecco is easy to find on the menu while I go red, and I try to match the red with whatever I'm eating but I'm such an amateur. I had a glass of Pinot noir (it was brisket on the Hanukkah menu, so that played) and the glass of Cali Pinot was superb, robust, and just fruity enough to remind me of my palate for sweetness. We were lucky enough to sample the full Hanukkah menu on this visit with Barry, the general manager, dutifully serve us matzo ball soup, brisket & latkes, and a stunning babka bread pudding for dessert. The whole special menu was a home run accented by the fact that we had a table right at the street window for that city feel. Tannin's menu is focused and what I've had has always been amazing. Pro tip: try a half poached pear salad with your entree and just enjoy the meld of flavors (pear, lardons, & bleu cheese) because it's a wonderful leadoff hitter. If you get down with heavier fare, then I suggest the grilled pork chop with the apple stuffing - phenomenal! Parking is what it is, even with a small lot to themselves, but the Crossroads is made for walking and the streetcar stop is just a few blocks away. Sitting on the sidewalk in warmer weather is such a treat, great wine in a great atmosphere with a downtown-y vibe. Definitely check it out for happy hour or dinner, and enjoy any time of year.

Yelp
I've heard good things from friends about Tannin for years and finally got a chance to try it. The drinks were good- the Tamarindo Surf was just ok, but the Peter Piper was very nice and had a good, spicy kick to it. The Pommes Frites were fine, not very crispy but well-seasoned and the aioli that came with it was excellent! The Steak Tartare was decent, but nothing overly exciting. The Roast Amish Chicken had a beautifully crisp, salty skin but the chicken was surprisingly dry. However, the sunchoke puree and sauce covered it up very well and the Brussels sprouts, mushrooms and potatoes on it were delicious! It wasn't quite as good as it had been built up in my head, but it had some very good dishes and the constant rotation of their menu has me excited to try it again!

Yelp
This is a great place to go for appetizer and drinks. It's a nice quiet upscale place. The bartenders are always nice and welcoming. Drinks are a little expensive but worth it.
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
The Peter Pepper drink was delicious. Beef tart tarts was solid not the best but definitely not the worst. The in house aoli sauce was amazing. The gnocchi was good. This is a good that can go wrong easily, the gnocchi was nice and pillowy and had a good texture the cheese was perfect on it as well. The mountain thyme was drier than expected. This is worth a visit.

Yelp
Great ambience and very friendly server for a leisurely and delicious meal with great wine accompaniments. What's not to love?

Yelp
Amazing wine and food! Staff are friendly and welcoming. This is a spot I hit anytime I am in KC!

Yelp
Tannin didn't disappoint. A wonderful outing to this Wine Bar. We had made a reservation so that certainly helped. It was busy this Saturday evening and there was a great ambience aa we entered. We were seated in a booth and my only fault was that I wish the AC was turned down a bit. The Menu was wonderful with a good selection of cocktails and of course Wine. I ordered a Moscow Mule as my first choice was no longer available. I knew right off my choices were going to be from the starters Menu and they were just perfect. The delicious fries with Aioli were spot on. The ahi tuna tartare with its crispy wontons were a delight and the shrimp appetizer were so good i ordered another. I didn't order a meal from the Menu but my love did. He went with the 3 course meal and a wine flight which he said was very good. His steak was a perfect medium rare and he was very pleased. We will certainly be returning. I will add that parking can be a chore even though they do have a lot adjacent. We luckily found a spot on the street and paid through the app.

Yelp
We came here for valentines day and had a nice time. The drink i got was recommended by our server and was tasty. The food was good but nothing we got blew us away, we would try new things on the menu next time.

Yelp
I stopped into Tannin for a pre dinner drink with co-workers in early November. I'd heard great things about this place but hadn't tried it yet so it was nice to have a reason to stop in. First of all I'll say that Tannin has a private parking lot, albeit a small one, but in this part of town having a lot at all is a huge plus. It was a Sunday so there were plenty of spaces and it made getting in and out a breeze. Now onto the ambiance. It's lovely inside. When you walk in it's cozy, upscale, and yet somehow at the same time unpretentious. I was a bit worried it would feel just too fancy for our little cocktail hour but it was honestly perfect. We sat at the bar and the bartender was kind and quick. I ordered a cocktail and it hit the spot! We also shared some fries which tasted equally good. I need to come back to try a full meal, but based off the cocktail hour vibes I'm sure it would be a solid spot for dinner or a date.

Yelp
Great ambiance, great service, great food. This is a small place downtown. The food was good, I got the pork chop and a glass of wine. Prices were fair. By 7pm on a Saturday the place was packed. Definitely a great option before a symphony performance.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. I've been many times and never had a bad meal. This time though, we came for a girls night with my best friend who was visiting from Orlando. We both choose to partake in the prefix menu and were not disappointed! Highlights for me: The wine pairings are spectacular, it's like having all the guidance of a sommelier without the pretentiousness! I also loved the pork cheek. Not something you see on many menus in KC despite being a delicious cut of meat. My friend loved the Lump Crabcakes and we both raved about the PB cookie later! Overall, I just can't say enough good things about Tannin and the staff. I've been back since this visit and even with the ever-changing menu, you always are promised good food, great wine and an excellence experience.

Yelp
My friend and I went here before a concert and we got to squeeze in a drink and appetizer from Happy Hour, and then she had the pork chop while I had the Waygu Burger. I had a taste of the pork chop and it was perfectly cooked. The burger was also cooked perfectly and the fries were SO good! Freshly cut and crispy. Service was wonderful too!
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
Never ordered a pork chop at a restaurant before. Why waste an order at a good restaurant on an easy cheap piece of meat. But wow did they make a pork chop one of the best things I've had in a long time. Crispy outside and not overdone on the inside. The fat had no gristle. It just melted into the meat. The stuffing was better than any Thanksgiving stuffing you've ever had. Broccoli is broccoli but it was cooked to perfection.

Yelp
Upscale Flavors & Setting Flavorful food, plenty of drink options Enjoyed: Roasted red pepper hummus with grilled pita bread - great appetizer, hummus served with a ton of pita wedges (equivalent to about 2 full pita breads) Friends at the table also rated the crispy shrimp highly! Tip: I was able to order a roasted chicken breast & potatoes à la carte - SO good! The chicken was juicy with crispy breading. Seasoned warm potatoes to accompany Next Time: Will skip the cocktail & go straight to wine - cocktail just too sweet for what I was wanting Service: Excellent! Our server also generously took our photo before we headed out - facing 2 ways, lots of angles. Very helpful! Ambiance: Classy evening out, can enjoy visiting & tasting for hours Visit: 2.9.24
google avatar

Erik O.

Yelp
Restaurant week checking in: Had a nice three course with the half wine pairing for an all in $85 a head. Because it was restaurant week - it was a bit crowded which lead to a slower service - something to keep in mind during the pre fixe menus. 2/3 of the dishes were a hit, but the fritters missed the mark for me. Always a great choice when we are looking for a fun date night!
google avatar

Megan E.

Yelp
Got food Togo. A nice duck pasta. A little overpriced for the portions, but overall everything tasted great. Got the fries, tiramisu, and duck pasta special!
google avatar

Yelp
I enjoyed a nice dinner here with a few of my colleagues. The restaurant was packed, but luckily we had a reservation so we were sat immediately. Our waitress was nice and patient with us as we decided on what we wanted to eat. We shared the brussel sprouts and charcuterie as appetizers. For an entree, I tried the salmon with gnocchi. It was delicious and filling, without making me too full. We shared the stuffed cookie for dessert which was good as well. If you're visiting during the cold months, make sure you bring a jacket. As the front door opened and closed, we had ti put our jackets on.
google avatar

Yelp
It was the first time for me. We came by to get a small bite and a drink. The location is downtown, and parking was ok. We got seated with no issue and took a good look at the menu. I ordered the Fish & Chips which came with the Parmesan Fries. (4/5) The fries are the winner and the fish is the contender but the portions are on point. The lady ordered Hummus (3/5) good but light on flavor. I also had the Fudge stuffed peanut butter The cookie was way better than I had expected (4/5) the flavor was there. The only catch is it's a little on the small side. I would definitely come back and if you have not been before you should give them a try.

Yelp
Food was delicious, well paced, and well paired. Our server, Abby, was able to recommend a variety of wines for different dishes. The lighting, decor, and particularly the screen showing vintage/ old movies made our time there fun and enjoyable. The vibes of the employees overall were immaculate, too. I was also accommodated as a vegan for the dishes I ordered which made me feel very welcome!! Hoping to return the next time I'm in Kansas City

Patty S.

Yelp
We had a great night on first night of Restaurant Week. The menu was great, nice wine selections, great booth for 6 and service was amazing . Everyone loved the choices made off Rest. Week menu ( also had other options to order) Short Rib, Risotto , Salmon all cooked to perfection! Maggie was one of the best servers we have seen in a long while . She just made the night even better! Great job Tannin, we will be back!!

letmesleep 2.

Yelp
The wine, ambiance, and service was all top notch. I got a three-wine wine flight which were great wines and I enjoyed trying something new, including a 2013 vintage! Our server was knowledgeable and helpful when we had recommendation requests. We also appreciated the non-alcoholic wines, cocktails, and beers!
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
Went on a Friday night and booked our reservation on TOCK a few days before. We chose to sit outside but it began to rain so they immediately sat us inside. Service was great. We enjoyed our charcuterie appetizer and I loved the presto pasta. I also had the salmon beet salad and wasn't super impressed with it. My family enjoyed the burgers. We will be back to try other options!
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
Came here after the chiefs game last night. I saw they had charcuterie and had a craving. The place is super cute and the bartender was very nice. The charcuterie was $24 and it was some sort of pepper salami, spicy coppacola and something else. The bread was great but both the amount and quality of the meats were lacking. It's possible I just whiffed on the selection as other stuff sounded good but I was not impressed.
google avatar

Maggie C.

Yelp
Probably the best balsamic vinegarette I've ever tasted. Happy hour includes a rotation of wines for $6. There is a full bar too, with speciality cocktails--so if you're not feeling wine, there's plenty of option. Opted for a side salad, and asked for some grilled chicken as well. The dressing though, it was perfectly tart and well oiled. It was so fresh, I wished it was a bigger portion, I just wanted to keep eating that salad forever. Chicken was really flavorful, I'm so glad they kept the skin on, it was crunchy and a little fatty.
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
Enjoyed a nice happy hour with friends here. Came in on a slower day, so the room was pretty quiet and empty. We ordered mainly small bites to share, like the marinated olives, pommes frites, a couple burgers, and a cheese plate. And of course some wine by the glass! I think because it was a slower day, our server checked on us a little too often, but she was super sweet regardless. Overall, an enjoyable time. Good food, great wine, and fast service. Would like to come back and check out the dinner menu, or dine out on the patio (once it cools down).
google avatar

Talesha C.

Yelp
I came on a Monday evening for happy hour. This was my first time here and really enjoyed the vibe. It felt warm and cozy with great music but also a bit upscale, yet hipster (based on the wardrobe of the staff). Our waiter was great and went into great detail about the wine when we asked. We shared a few appetizers and they were really good! The pommes frites were the best fries I've ever had and you really don't need any ketchup with them. The crispy shrimp was delicious and the hummus was good too.
google avatar

Courtney R.

Yelp
Definitely a place to go for a cute scene, good wine, and great service. We went during restaurant week and the food was hit or miss. The oysters Rockefeller, the butternut Apple bisque, and the sage Risotto were the crowd favorites. Highly recommend these. The short ribs and all of the desserts were just okay.

Amy M.

Yelp
I was very excited to try this restaurant based upon recommendations from several friends. The atmosphere of the facility is quite charming. Although, we were set on the other side from the rest of the clientele. The restaurant lacked energy where we were sitting. Sadly, the espresso & chocolate martinis were not impressive and had little to no alcohol. The seasonal pear salad was served with canned pears and not fresh pears. We also added protein and that more than doubled the cost of the salad. Therefore, the salad price was quite lofty. Our service was OK, but I do not believe we will frequent this facility.
google avatar

Snehal B.

Yelp
Great local wine bar with some great food options. The service by Roya was fantastic. If you are in the area, then it is a must visit place!
google avatar

Willainia S.

Yelp
I popped in this wine bar with my colleague on a quiet Wednesday evening. I had a long day of travelling and then working so the quiet atmosphere was welcoming. I had one glass of wine (nothing fancy) that I enjoyed. I also ordered the pomme frites (the truffle aioli is BOSS), the Thai shrimp (It's not a salad) and the blueberry pound cake (the portion size makes you feel not bad about ordering it). I saw some complaints about portion but I think the portions were fine and to be expected at a wine bar. Sometimes it is quality over quantity. Tip: Great place for date night.

Steve K.

Yelp
We had a fabulous time with Craig our server explaining the extensive wine list and special flights. My spinach Cesar and steak tartare were exceptional. The fries and soli were amazing. Service from everyone was attentive and cheerful. We had a booth past the main bar and it was quiet and comfortable. The wine list was filled with options new to me so it was fun to peruse. The hedges I selected was a true delight. We can't wait for our next trip.
google avatar

Tara A.

Yelp
This is a great wine bar with good food. Our server was super knowledgeable and also gave us lots of other recommendations of places to go in the neighborhood. The tuna and shrimp appetizers were a highlight for our group.
google avatar

Sabrina S.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite bars to go to downtown and have an easy sip on the patio! The food, ambience and drink options are amazing. I took my family from out of town here and they were so impressed with the cocktail options along with wine selection! ! The truffle fries and cheese plate were exceptional!
google avatar

Latasha E.

Yelp
Atmosphere: great, dimly lit, music playing very social, parking is TERRIBLE so be prepared Ordered: Prix menu with wine pairings Overall food was great, portions were extremely small, normally portions are smaller for prix menu but portions were EXTREMELY small. Taste was great, just 1 piece of broccolini, estimated 2-2.5 oz salmon, and decent portion of quinoa. Service: Great, small disclosures were not provided such as mentioning that all dessert options were chocolate even though menu did not mention chocolate in every dessert dish. I believe he was the manager possibly, taller slim guy with long hair was absolutely amazing with the wine pairing service, towards the end of dinner a muscular Asian female brought the last wine pairing and was unfortunately extremely rude. Her attitude was atrocious as she approached our table. Price: around 230 with tip

Dale F.

Yelp
Very happy with this find. We enjoyed a flight of reds with a lite dinner. The food and experience was very good. Give it a try. I think you will enjoy it.
google avatar

Ben L.

Yelp
Was extremely and impressed and grateful for the excellent service from the team here. Visited with a group for a friend's birthday, and there was some extreme weather, leaving us soaked when we got in. Host got us seated, and brought us some towels to dry off a bit. This small gesture was so kind and thoughtful, and really was an indication of what kind of place they have here. Server for our group was patient, and engaged with the special allergen needs that some of our group had, taking the time to go over the various options for dishes and possibly modifications. Friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to make the effort to make everyone feel welcome and accommodated. I'm just super impressed, and will recommend this spot to anyone in the area.
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
Great selection of wine and appetizers! The patio is fully shaded by 7:00 and twinkling lights outside. The service was good, had two waiters checking on us. They have private lot beside the building or street parking.
google avatar

Jeseika M.

Yelp
The scallops was one of the best meals I've had. The gal serving wine was fab too. I'll be back for sure!
google avatar

Angela H.

Yelp
The ambience was warm and inviting. The service was attentive. I ordered the duck cassoulet which was comforting and delicious. The wine selection is vast and diverse. Our group was very happy with the experience.

Breanna S.

Yelp
I don't often leave reviews but WOWW. We had the crab dip, steak tar tar, pork chop, gnocchi & peanut butter cookie and I would have them all again! 10/10
google avatar

Edward P.

Yelp
First off great ambiance nice place with indoor and out door seating, we ended up sitting inside which was a good choice. Our waitress was really good knew the menu. Now onto the food it was really good we got the prix which was $60 comes with an app, soup or salad, main course and a desert. Highly recommended!

Taylor H.

Yelp
Tannin is my go-to place for any of life's celebrations! Barry helped coordinate my birthday dinner and wine tasting in a private room there in July 2023 and now he just coordinated my bachelorette dinner and wine tasting this past weekend. He always goes above and beyond in all aspects! I'm a pretty avid wine drinker so I have some favorites I always request but when describing other types to include, he perfectly matched a good wine to fit the request! Not only does he have extensive knowledge of wines, but he's also such an enjoyable person to listen to describe the wines and converse with to set up the events. I will always recommend Tannin for a date night, dinner, or a private event and will continue to come back!
google avatar

Aaron R.

Yelp
Lovely place to meet with friends and have a great time. Kris was phenomenal and very helpful. Lots of great wine selections to choose from! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Love the ambiance and atmosphere of the Tannin Totally recommend this restaurant bar for fun and a great meal
