We had a birthday dinner here, which we enjoyed.
The starter with marinated fish was fantastic. Very delicate and flavorful.
We also shared a traditional codfish cake. The restaurant elevated it, adding an egg yolk and herbs, almost like a tartare. While it tasted good, there's only so much you can do to make this dish better. It was still quite heavy and oily for me, but that's a personal preference. Adding a side of simple fresh/pickled vegetables would do wonders to cut through the fattiness of the dish.
For the main course, we had mushroom rice and duck rice. I thought my mushroom rice was a bit one-note because there was no variety to it, every bite was the same to the end, and there wasn't enough freshness or acidity to balance the cheesiness. Again, a fresh side salad or pickles would improve the experience, allowing you to mix and match bites with different vegetables.
For the dessert, we shared a chocolate mousse, it was delicious, rich and airy. It had some salt on top which paired very nicely, even though it was still too sweet. What was missing was a classic tart fruit to cut through the richness of the chocolate. Cherries or raspberries would go perfectly with it.
As you can see, there's a pattern throughout the menu here, which is the lack of balance and variety. The first bite might be fantastic, but it loses novelty and becomes boring too quickly. A few extremely simple changes would make the dining experience that much better.
Aside from the food, the place was cozy, and the staff was extremely attentive and polite. I didn't mind the 5% optional tip but it seems tourist-oriented, as the menu prices are already on the higher end.
