10 Farms That Are Works of Art

"Landscape shaped by rice paddy farming is often associated or even equated with idyllic rural beauty. There are times when the rice paddies are truly a mesmerizing sight, and those found in Batad belong to this category. These paddies form a majestic amphitheater, with the Batad village at the base. The first terraces in Batad were carved out of the surrounding hills by the Ifugao people at least 2,000 years ago. These were eventually built upon and expanded generation after generation. Today, these terraces have been expanded along the steepest slopes to reach the very top of the hills. The view from the base of the amphitheater or from the top of the hills is equally breath-taking. The longevity of continuous farming in this spot suggests outstanding sustainable management based on lunar cycles and zoning, leading to soil conservation, and several indigenous herbs and plants have been used to fence off natural pests. All of this was and still is integrated in socio-cultural practices emphasizing collective efforts and sharing. Autochthonous religious rituals further reinforced this approach to farming. The technique for constructing terraces and irrigating the paddies for the purpose of farming rice found in Batad is common throughout the Philippine Cordilleras. The cultural significance of these paddies was officially recognized by the Philippine government in 1973, when they were declared “National Cultural Treasure”, and the depiction of these terraces ended up on 20 Peso banknotes." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

The hike going here is definitely 8/10 for me. Ang daming ahon at lusong. The steps are also steep. But sobrang rewarding when we reached the falls. My legs are soooo soooreee when we went back home. But will definitely try to do this again.

This is one of the most photogenic spots in Philippines. It takes about 2 hours from Batad saddle, but it is totally worth it. The waters are cool, but not cold and actually quite welcoming when it's hot.

My first time in Tappiya Falls but second time in Ifugao. The place is really far-the cliffs are no joke and it's kind of scary at first, the road is concrete up to the dead end where you need to walk, walk, walk for about an hour ( that's in our case and experienced) You also need to log your name at the Tourist Center. YOU NEED A TOUR GUIDE ! We went on a hike at 5:00 in the morning, and reached the Tappiya Falls for about 7:00 in the morning. Guys, the earlier you hike, the more chances you're gonna see a rainbow! I am so blessed to personally experienced and see it. Be careful in walking because some are steep concrete stairways . I actually struggled going there - it's really far from the Inn and the stairs are crazy! You will first experience the beauty of the rice terraces before reaching the Tappiya Falls. Make sure to wear proper footwear and clothing. There is only one store at the Tappiya Falls so better bring lots of water to stay hydrated and put lots of sunscreen too. The water is so cold and refreshing so take extra clothes if you plan to take a dip. From 5:00 AM hike we got back at around 1:30 in the afternoon. The place has no cellphone reception or low internet speed from the inn we stayed for a night, which I love because the place is freaking magnificent not to see or take videos and photos. We stayed or 2 days and 1 night and we also enjoy the local food.

Whenever I visit the breathtaking and awe-inspiring Batad rice terraces and Tappiya Falls, I am instantly enveloped in a sense of tranquility. The sight of the ancient rice terraces carved into the mountainside, coupled with the soothing sounds of the cascading waterfalls, creates an overwhelming feeling of connection to the natural world. This serene environment serves as my ultimate sanctuary for stress relief. My third visit. Fourth? coming soon.

Beautiful waterfall in Batad. We walked 2 hours from our homestay and took a dip in its cold water. Best time to be there at 8:00 or 9:00 am to avoid crowd.

The place is majestic. The trail is not that hard because it is already a scemented stair. Swimming is available but highly suggested not to go to the deepest part under the fall of the falls. If weather is good start early to avoid the flock of people. Trek is about 45 minutes one way but more going back because uphill. You will pass by two stores where you can buy refreshments and souvineers.

Along the way to the place, I frequently asked my group, how far still shall we be walking? Until we finally reached the area. What an awesome sight of the falls! My tiredness and all has completely vanished, hahaha! We rested for more than an hour to keep ourselves adjusted to the place's temperature. Had our lunch before we had an enjoyable swimming.
