The Best NYC Food of 2025

"After years at PDT, Euclides “Victor” Lopez leads Mixteca’s cocktail program, offering $8 happy-hour margaritas and finely tuned mezcal- and tequila-forward drinks; the Masa Hero — served over ice with masa-infused bourbon, reposado tequila, nutty amontillado sherry, lemon, and honey — demanded a second round." - Alan Sytsma

Fast and friendly service. Food is slightly in a different style than your regular Mexican food. It’s really good though, worth trying! Bathrooms were super clean!

We stopped by for lunch, the food was great and generous portions. My favorite was the burrito and the tostadas were delicious as well. The meat in the entomatadas was a bit dry, but other than that we enjoyed our experience. Felt authentic and the soup was complementary.

The atmosphere here is beautiful. Coffee was ok, I ordered the tamales one of each, pork, chicken, and cheese. They did not have the cheese, so I got the other two. Pork tamale dough was dry, as was the meat. Needed lots of green salsa. The chicken tamale was better on flavor. The dough was still dry, and the chili spice was strong =good. I used the red salsa on this one it was HOT! VERY GOOD. I think the dryness came from the tamales having been frozen for too long.

Very happy to have discovered this place close to home, the Pozole Mixteco was delicious and with lots of homini.

Google

Google
Absolutely fabulous Mexican food from the Oaxaca region. This food really had a great depth of flavor that is hard to find outside of Mexico. The counter staff was very kind and helps explain dishes. They have some of the hits that we like to have when we travel. The interior is very warm and interesting and has a shop of souvenirs, cooking equipment, and Mexican culinary items to take home. We look forward to eating our way through this menu because everything we ordered was fabulous.

Google
Chicken Empanada, Tlayuda, Cemita, Chicken Tamal, Aqua Frescas (watermelon & cucumber) were good. Got the soup and drinks right away. Had to wait awhile for the rest of the food.

Google
This place is phenomenal! Authentic Oaxacan cuisine, amazing flavors, fresh and vibrant salsas, and a wide selection of dishes, including some delicious vegetarian options, like the empanadas I had. The restaurant is clean and the staff was incredibly helpful.

Yelp

Yelp
We tried Taqueria Casa Mixteca because of the great reviews, and they DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Great food (the little bowl of tomato soup at the start was SO good, and everything after was too), such friendly service (everyone was so nice), and we will definitely be back. Try the chilaquiles! Can't wait to go back for tacos!

Yelp
The restaurant is beautiful and quaint when you drive up and the people that work here are lovely and very kind. The food was absolutely delicious as well. It is a little pricey, but I would definitely fit it into my budget again it was so good!

Yelp
Disappointing Not sure what happened to this joint, but they lost their flare. Casa Mixteca brought new flavors and quality Mexican food to Burien. It was refreshing when they opened., from the Mole sauce for the burritos to the Empanadas, the food was really good. Now, they can barely produce an accurate order. Steak tacos are dry and the the meat was tough and crunchy. Service is lacking. Ordered three steak tacos (among other things) and only received two. After confirming with the lady in the restaurant that there were three in my order, I get home and only two. Should have checked the bag. Called and person on phone says closed, that's the only word she could admittedly speak and then hung up the phone. Many of our last few orders have been subpar. We always made an excuse for it. Even picking up our order this evening it wasn't ready and the order wasn't accurate. It was an hour before closing. Not worth the time or the money. Too many options in the neighborhood where you can get a quality product and better service. Oh and inconsistent hours. You never really know when they close.

Yelp
Excellent Oaxacan mole negro to be found here! I have been trying to satisfy a mole craving for months now and finally heard about this place, so off I went to check them out, and BOY do they deliver! They do limited seating due to the pandemic but are offering dine in and take out options. I got their chicken enchiladas and chicken burrito, both smothered in mole negro, and I'm in heaven now. Please check them out and remember to tip! The staff are lovely and very welcoming, and they also have a small retail area where you can buy the best brand of mole paste, homemade tortillas, chorizo, and desserts. They also have souvenirs from Oaxaca decorating the counter and for sale.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this restaurant while waiting until closer to flight boarding time; location is close to the airport. It is a neat little restaurant that screams authentic Mexican by the items they sell. We ordered horchata, carne asada and steak quesadilla. Horchata cup size was huge compared to the other Mexican restaurants I have been at, however, cinnamon flavor much stronger. Carne asada was chewy and dry; flavor present but not enough for me to reorder again. Quesadilla was tender and savory. The quesadilla I would definitely order again. The flavor was very good - soft tortilla, tasty cheese melted over steak.

Yelp
I went to T-Mobile shop around Burien and asked service 2 Mexican ladies to any good Mexican restaurant? They suggested us to go to here to eat a Huaraches beef steak one. I came to Casa Mexteca few times and liked colors of interior but unlocked food for choices. And ordered Huaraches and Chilli Relleno. Chilli Relleno was great flavor. Huaraches was a little dry food for me. But I think Huaraches are popular menu here. I saw other customer also eating... Overall the food is good and service was friendly

Yelp
Great food and service. Older couple playing live music made our experience even better.

Yelp
Excellent food their tamales are delicious and their chilaquiles are to die for definitely worth trying

Yelp
The food was really good! I had the mole and it was great. Service was friendly and pretty fast. The prices particularly in comparison to Seattle were good. It was very loud the day we visited because it was Mexican Independence Day and they had a DJ outside. I got mole and my husband got something involving meat :) My daughter got beans and rice with tortillas and liked it; the tortillas tasted good and fresh. We'll come back if we're in the area!

Yelp
First time ordering takeout here for Taco Tuesday. It was so nice coming inside everything around me was very cultural and warm welcoming. Tasted the Chicken Tacos when I got home omgsh they are so good with the green and red salsa..muy delicioso me gustas mi verde y rojo salsa con mi tacos! (practicing my Spanish for traveling in post-covid year). Ordered the Chicken Burrito for my sister whoa it's huge and she says it's yummy. I'll definitely get that burrito next time. Cashier was pleasant, helpful, and masked up when I came in to pick up my order (kudos to you Señor for following CDC safety measures!) Overall, I definitely will come back to this place again so convenient within a 5 min radius from home.

Yelp
You know when you leave the nest and decide to go back home to a good home cook meal. Well, I suspect that this is what people would say and feel about this place. I had the carne asada taco, it was FREAKING amazing. I went with my boss and she said its homemade tortillas too - I mean heck, can it get any more "home cooked meal"? The tacos came out piping hot, the meat was flavorful, the salsas they provided had a kick to it, but it wasn't too spicy to the point that you would have to pay for it later (if you know what I mean..), the tortilla was freaking good had enough cilantro and onion topping. Since then, I have been searching around to find a replacement but I still catch myself craving it from this place and so far, nothing has been able to beat it. Might have to ask for a grilled jalapeno to go with it the next time. It took everything out of me to not eat it all and take one home to the hubby to try. Obviously, by the time he ate it, it was cold (did I warm it up.. nope) BUT he still said it was good, so imagine him having it fresh.. Will be back..

Thomas S.

Yelp
Really, really good Menudo, street tacos are delicious, they even have the crunchy crickets for sale or no I'm sorry grasshoppers is there a difference? This place is authentic and with a welcoming atmosphere. I will go back to this place again 100%

Scott E.

Yelp
Charming traditional family run Mexican food in the best sense. Everything fresh and oh those sauces were so good.

Yelp
This place is one of the only authentic Mexican restaurants in WA! It reminds me of my grandmothers cooking and my childhood. I work so close by its become my go-to lunch spot. Check out their chilaquiles, enchiladas or tacos!!!

Yelp
Great tacos. It may take 10-15 minutes for your order but well worth the wait. Delicious salsa as well.

Yelp
Terrible food and service. Had a hair in my food! Do not go here. Carne Asada Burrito

Yelp
I should have known this place wasn't going to measure up when I entered. It was so cold all of the patrons (3 of them at two tables) were wearing their jackets. The table was too cold to put my hands on. Oaxacan food is my favorite and I often seek it out. After ordering at the counter and paying in advance (yes, tip included). I ordered Enchiladas Mole Oaxacuenos (a favorite). The guy brought a trio of sauces and an included bowl of soup to the table. I asked about chips and he politely replied that they do not have chips. Without the soup's warmth I'd have left then. As it was I walked out after three bites. Presentation was top notch and it looked so enticing. But be warned: the chicken tacos were more like flautas. But they hadn't been fried; it appeared they'd been rolled in advance, stored them reheated and topped generously with mole negro, lettuce and queso fresco. The were so dry I couldn't cut them with the knife. It was, to be polite, horrible. The rice however was excellent but not enough to get me to stay. Seldom will I write off a restaurant after one bad experience but I'll never go back to this one.

Yelp
Excellent food, extensive menu, good prices and good service. I plan to return again soon.

Yelp
We are so lucky to have these kinds of places in Burien. Got the Enchiladas verde pollo which was amazing. Large quantity too. I am looking forward to trying other dishes from this place. Service was pleasant, and prompt. I highly recommend this place. There are a few taquerias in Burien, including some chains, but make it a point to try this mom and pop place on 153rd - you'll be glad you did.

Yelp
This place is very clean the food is delicious The prices are just perfect i'm very happy that I found this place here in Washington

Yelp
First, I wish I could give this place 3 1/2 stars. Well first of all I am from Mexico City and from many generations from there. I've been looking for great tacos. I ordered 5 tacos to go, 3 cecina and 2 lengua. The cecina es good but not great and it needed too much seasoning (salt) so it lacks flavor. The lengua (tongue) is really good though but it does need more seasoning. The secret of any taco is great meat seasoning and a must wonderful salsa. They gave me 2 salsas one red one green. They were too few salsas for 5 tacos. They do make their own tortillas which is really nice. The tacos are really big compared to other places, so good portions of meat actually. 5 tacos were actually a lot of food. Going back to the salsa, the red one is the spicy one and I cannot really taste which chillies they use. Spiciness is good and the seasoning was great on it. The green salsa was very disappointing. No flavor whatsoever, no seasoning. Mom always said to me growing up. "The secret of an amazing salsa are actually 2 things, first always make it with love, imagining how much you and others will enjoy it and last but never least good seasoning meaning (salt) always enough and plenty salt. Another thing that has nothing to do with my experience with the 5 tacos I ordered was the qualification from the health department which is only "OK" which does make me wonder why? Or perhaps I do not want to know why? :-O I don't know. I guess I will try them again and I think you should too. I only ordered tacos which were only OK, but I will try some of their Oaxacan food eventually and may rate them higher. Remember that even if you do order tacos a plus is that they do give you lots of meat. The guy I ordered from was nice but a bit surprised I only ordered 5 tacos. Their price per taco as of today are $2.00 per taco. Which that is worth paying. Thank you for not giving a double tortilla like in Mexico City since I've always thought that was like making you fill up on tortillas. Yes! you can always request in Mexico City to give just one tortilla but it should be the opposite. If you want 2 tortillas then you should be able to request them. Hee, hee! just saying :D

Yelp
A year ago I spent a month in Oaxaca, the land of the seven moles. When I read the newspaper review I was excited to try this place and it did not disappoint. I can recommend the chicken with mole negro; great flavor and a good amount of chicken. If you like spicy food try the chicken with mole rojo (red); it's not on the menu but is available.

Yelp
LA BOMBA!!! I found Casa Mixteca by chance while I was shopping in Burien and now this is my favorite Cocina Mexicana in my area. I'm from San Diego originally and I know great Mexican dishes. Casa Mixteca se pura athentica.
google avatar

Yelp
First time. Had the Huaraches with chicken. It was smokey and delicious. The staff was very friendly and service was speedy. Inside dining was available, socially distanced.
google avatar

Yelp
Great variety for a drive up Mexican restaurant. Chicken enchiladas en mole was practically a 2 hander. So you'll get your worth if you like to eat hearty. Service was fast at the driveway too.
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
First visit and won't be my last. I had the mole pollo enchiladas. I was trying to call a other place but they did not answer. Lucky me! Service was super fast and the food was muy delicioso. And in reading reviews it seems like they make molcajete so yes I will be back.
google avatar

Toni H.

Yelp
We had horrible service and the meat greasy with very little flavour. Not worth going back when so many others are in area to try.
google avatar

Leticia V.

Yelp
Bought tamales pork chop and mole to share at work, totally authentic! Salsa served on the side was delicious and not watery or made with anything canned. A good amount of meat in each tamal. They were delicious! It looks family runned, Great whole in the wall place.

Sal O.

Yelp
I just buy a burrito here for Togo and when I about to eat there's nothing on the burrito but just tortilla they scammed me and I pay 14$ for a tortilla with mole on top this is sucks
google avatar

Teresa H.

Yelp
Came across this little gem! Had an asada burrito and it was the bomb. They have a lot of Mexican dishes I have not heard of before (and I'm Mexican ) definitely coming back.
google avatar

Alejandra M.

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food: regional specialties from Oaxaca are the highlights of the menu, but everything else is great too. Best Mexican food I have had in the Seattle area, reminds of little family-owned joints in the L.A. area. A great alternative to the ubiquitous Rinconsito chain that can be found all over the south Seattle area. Everything is homestyle and made to order, every item is made with care and wholesome ingredients. There is a sign up front stating that the food is all made by hand and that there may be a little extra wait due to this but it is well worth the wait. Tortillas are made in house and are a little bit thicker and much more flavorful than the store-bought variety. My favorites on the menu: Masita (cornmeal thickened meat stew in a mild chile sauce)--awesome and perfect for a cold winter night, Enfrijoladas (a great dish in which the tortillas are coated in a bean dip before being sauteed. I've only had this at a streetside stall in Mexico, so nice to be able to get it so close). I've only had these to go, so I haven't been able to post pictures-I will try to have a sit down meal here soon so I can get some photo evidence of the awesome food here. The menu also features several dishes that are very traditional and particular to Oaxacan cuisine (eg. chaupulines!). There is also mole on the menu which I am sure must be closer to the conventional Oaxacan style but I haven't tried yet. You know this is the best Mexican food in town when it's packed with Mexican-American families on cold weekday nights!

T S.

Yelp
They overcharged us $10 but we didn't notice until too late. They were very nice in the restaurant. Food wasn't great. Rice in my burrito was very thick and gluey like it had been super over cooked and stirred. Cool knick knacks and cooking supplies to buy.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
great place. Food is all amazing. Empanadas with pumpkin flower and the mole were a favorite.

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Great service, MOST DELICIOUS food I've ever had, so fresh, uncomparable authentic Mexican taste & flavors. Good pricing as well. Go, you won't regret it!
google avatar

Richard G.

Yelp
This place is legit! Some friends and I stopped by for lunch. I had the quesadillas, and my friends had the torta, and the menudo. Wow, they were all authentic and delicious. Muchas gracias mi gente!

C. J. T.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants outside of Mexico. Having lived in San Diego & originally being from Los Angeles, I never thought that title would be taken by a restaurant in Burien, but that's the case. There's actually some pretty stiff competition for best Mexican food between Burien and Tukwila, but Casa Mixteca wins hands down for me. I began my exploration of their menu with the Oaxacan Torta (still one of my favorites) but have made a point of trying something new every time we go and I haven't been disappointed yet after over 7 meals there. Everything's amazing, but I say start with the torta. The staff are also very friendly and welcoming. This is truly a family business.
google avatar

Shawn L.

Yelp
If you are from California and you constantly wonder how pacific NW Mexican food can be so bland, check this place out. Flavorful, authentic, huge portions.
google avatar

Cory E.

Yelp
Great authentic Mexican food! We got the molcajete and the flavors of the meat was amazing!! The staff was wonderfully nice, too! Will definitely be back!

Dennis H.

Yelp
Some of the best tamales I've had in Seattle. Masa was smooth and flavorful and the ingredients were so tasty. Definitely try the rajas con queso and bring some home for the freezer!

Deja P.

Yelp
Homemade tortillas. Amazing salsas. You ever been to a place so good you ordered two entrees ? This is that place. Staff was so friendly, bathroom was clean. Ate so much I'm sleepy. Try anything & everything from this place you won't regret it!
