Taqueria Sin Nombre is a new taco spot tucked away in a hidden alleyway, a sister restaurant of Dingo Ate My Taco. The vibe and interior are really cool and laid back, fitting perfectly in Chinatown. The staff at the entrance are bubbly, and with several Mexican workers on the team, it genuinely feels authentic. You can watch the taco bread being made in front of you, giving it an open-kitchen feel, almost like sitting at a wine bar counter it kept me engaged while waiting for the food.
As for the food, there were definite highs and lows. Some tacos were under-seasoned maybe intentionally, since there’s a toppings section where you can add your own sauces but personally, those weren’t enjoyable for me. The chicarron, fried crispy skin with guac, was tasty and not overly oily, good to nibble on while waiting, but nothing extraordinary.
From the taco menu, the TOMBO options stood out. I tried the Vampiro and the pork one (not sure exactly name) and found both meats tender with good flavor. The prawn taco had solid flavor with mayo but was pretty standard. The rib eye was a bit thin and underseasoned, even after adding sauce, and felt like it was missing a flavor profile. Brisket was my favorite very tender, melt inyour mouth texture. The kanga asado was very chewy and didn’t have much flavor, so I didn’t enjoy it. I also tried a quesadilla that looked like a fried empanada inside had beans and other fillings, but it was very mid.
One item I found interesting was a taco with a crispy shell, eaten like a taco sandwich — the crunch and flavor worked well together and made for an interesting texture.
Overall, it’s a spot with some standout tacos, some misses, and a unique vibe that makes it worth checking out if you’re exploring Chinatown.
