The wonton soup is my new favorite comfort meal. Must try the mango sticky rice. So delicious. Really great food and service. Indoor and outdoor seating available with a beautiful back patio and oak tree.

Google
ordered over $600+ worth of takeout for a photoshoot lunch, and everything was perfect— food was great and neatly packed, the thai iced tea is delicious, the to go napkins are so proper, their service and attitudes were so kind. They deserved the tip and good reviews.

Google
Amazing local spot! We got golden squid, drunken noodles with beef and the mango paradise (the crunchiness of the cashews are little bursts of joy!) Chef, my respects, food is so good! The service is great, they never leave you waiting for too long. 10/10

7/27/2024 Dining on the patio, surrounded by the refreshing negative ions from the giant trees, is always such a pleasant and comfortable experience. My friends, my spouse, and I have come here many times. We enjoyed a relaxing time with the Seafood Mix with Vegetables ($19.50) and Pad Kee Mao ($14.50), paired with Evolution Red Blend Wine ($9)🍷 and Thai Iced Tea ($4.50). The food was elegant and delicious.😊✨

Google
Very cool Thai place. The place makes you feel like you are home. Great customer service as soon as you enter. If the weather permits eat out on the deck. Comfortable seating. I ordered the wings and I gotta say it was great. Nice lite crisp to it with some honey on there. I usually don't put sauce on my wings, but I had to try it and I gotta say it added some more flavor to the wings. Definitely would order again and visit this place again.

Google
Really excellent. The sea bass was cooked to perfection with Thai herbs and a nice reduction. Egg rolls were very good, crispy, hot, and flavorful. Service was superb, friendly and efficient. If weather permits, the patio is a delightful place to sit.

Google
Meal here was delicious! Went as a group of 3 and each of us loved our food choices: Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, and Drunken Noodle. Really fair pricing, quick and friendly service, and pretty fair pricing. I’d happily get Thai here again! There’s also a nice covered patio for warmer days or with a jacket. Pro tip: there’s a small parking lot in the back of the building with a few spots reserved for Tara Thai.

Google
A really lovely place - highly recommend. The patio is indeed lovely; I was able to sit in its shade which was wonderfully cool on a hot July day. The menu was fresh and everything came promptly and was delicious. I was also lucky enough to get one of their whole fresh coconuts! I drank my juice with my meal to cool down, and then ate the meat as a dessert. The place overall was clean, there is a small parking lot behind, and the staff was delightful and friendly. Really a 5 star experience.

Yelp
The weather is absolutely Portland perfect with a magnificent green tree canopy covering the huge outdoor patio. I love the serenity of this place. It's my favorite place on this street. I'm having my favorite Duck Curry which is available in Mild, Medium or Hot. The plating is beautiful (check out my photos) Delicious fresh green vegetables including quick seared Thai Basil leaves made it absolutely delightful. After eating through most of the vegetables, I could then see the ample roasted boneless duck breast sliced perfectly and a roasted duck drumstick. The service was fairly quick, and the wait staff checked with me several times. It's Saturday night. More happy diners are arriving. Soulful 60's and 70's music is playing softly in the background. Parking and Handicap ramp in the back. Life is good
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
We parked in their small lot and walked up the handicap ramp under the big tree for a lovely outdoor patio dining experience. We ordered our favorite Thai dishes and it came out fairly quickly. The staff were so nice and checked in on us the right amount. I've been here several times and it's probably one of my favorite Thai places in Portland.

Yelp
I never leave reviews ever. Even if I really don't like a place or just like a place. This restaurant deserves its flowers. Amazing staff, amazing food, cocktail are strong and delicious and the price is extremely reasonable. Do not sleep on this place. I will be coming back again and again and again.

Yelp
The food was good, I got green curry with chicken and an order of coconut shrimp. I wish the curry had a more punchy flavor and had more chicken, but it was well balanced. The shrimp was great. I got my order delivered and it took a minute to arrive but it still had a nice crsipiness to it and the coconut had a little sweetness which was nice. Overall, I'd order from here again to try some other items.

Yelp
We were having a lazy Friday. The first non-rainy day in a week, so we decided to venture out for a walk and lunch. My wife needs Gluten Free and as we were walking by we noticed they allows dogs on the outdoor patio (score). Not a lot of lunch traffic, so we're were quickly seated and placed our orders. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. I had the Pad Thai and she had the Pineapple Fried Rice. Everything tasted great. The PT comes with vermicelli noodles, which is unique but they work. Overall, a good choice and we will come again.
google avatar

Yelp
Delightful little house with impeccable cleanliness and gracious waitstaff. Everything you'd want on a menu at a Thai/Laotian restaurant. Curry was top notch and they added coconut milk to tamp down the spicy index for me! Eggplant was plentiful and tasty and Singapore noodles had mussels and calamari and shrimp and broccoli and carrots and bamboo shoots. Patio is lovely but today we wanted the refreshing AC to get a respite from the 90 degree heat outside ! If you have any from after your meal, the mango sticky rice is a MUST HAVE! keep up the great work here. Prices are reasonable for quality and quantity and atmosphere. Good value!! Great service with smiles and water kept full. Very attentive and wanting to please. Thank for the wonderful service you gave us!

Yelp
Tara Thai is consistent and delicious! One of my favorite Thai Teas in Portland, but if there was one thing I would skip it would be the crab rangoons, I just wish they were a little crunchier. Inside is simple but well lit, outside seating is cute! Staff is always super friendly, I've only ever had one mix up on an order and they were very proactive in fixing. Tom Kha NEVER disappoints!
google avatar

Corinne R.

Yelp
thai curry is a new found favorite of mine, so I branched out and ordered the khao soi noodles. It was too spicy for my liking and not too flavorful. Wouldn't re order. Maybe khao soi isn't my thing. Julia loved the basil spaghetti.

Yelp
I visited Tara Thai Northwest a few weeks ago for dinner with a friend. The service was friendly and I liked that outdoor patio. There's some tables inside for when the weather isn't as great. It's a little house which is pretty cool. There's both Thai dishes and Laotian dishes on the menu plus some fusion dishes. We got fresh shrimp salad rolls, pad se ew, khao poon namkai, and mango sticky rice. The salad rolls were good. The pad se ew was good. The kaho poom namkai soup was delicious. I liked the lime, the spice, and the mint combination in the broth. The mango sticky rice was tasty as well. The mango was fresh and perfectly ripe. The rice was sweet and had the right amount of coconut sauce. I'll looking forward to coming back to this restaurant soon and I highly recommend it.

Dave K.

Yelp
We ordered three dishes and they were pretty much all alike. Tom Kha soup, drunken noodles and yellow curry. All vegetarian but the veggies were just from a single stock, hugely cut. And the taste was not up to par with most other Thai restaurants we have tried. Yellow curry seemed like a quick mix of coconut cream and yellow curry paste without even cooking. Portions were good. Ambience was lovely, with outdoor seating, service was ok, nothing extraordinary. Would not recommend

Yelp
One of the best and cutest spots in the neighborhood. All the curry options are incredible. Pad Thai is great too. Pad Pred is in my rotation too. I can't thank the staff enough, they stayed open during the ice storm and everyone was so nice. They really always have the best service even for takeout. This is a staple, can't recommend enough. Thank you Tara Thai!

Riley K.

Yelp
Came in for the first time before I had a meeting down the street. Quick service, calm atmosphere, and delicious pad Se ew!

Yelp
After trying about five different Thai restaurants, the one I return to most often is Tara Thai. The food is good, fresh, and the staff is really friendly and inviting. Plus I like the atmosphere of this place, especially the patio area. I tend to always get the same things, and therefore I highly recommend the chicken satay, the pad see yew with beef, I like any of the curries, and pad Thai. I've never been disappointed, and they continue to make me happy. If you haven't figured it out by now, I'm definitely recommending this place to you.

Yelp
Tara Thai is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in town. The staff are absolutely sweet and accommodating and kind. I went with family who are vegetarian and the lovely staff member that helped us made sure that they were given vegan sauces and food was completely fish sauce and egg free for them. She was absolutely the sweetest, I wish I could've given her a hug! Super nice ambience, too, and their food is consistently amazing. I had the Pad Ka Praw, with ground chicken and fried egg at the Hot level. It had pleasant warmth and heat to it. Super delicious! The fried egg is an extra few cents but worth it!
google avatar

Logan M.

Yelp
Tara is a great spot overall with tasty food for reasonable prices in this little neighborhood. They definitely don't have the best Thai food I've ever had, but they're consistent and have great service. Not too mention the restaurant is cute and charming.

Yelp
A huge lover of Thai food, Tara Thai was one of the first Thai restaurants I dined at when I moved to Portland 20 years ago. I've been back many times to dine with friends and for take-out. I'm partial to their flavorful curries, always so comforting! While I typically go for the spicier Padang curry, they have turned me into a fan of Pumpkin curry. The sweet flavor and soft texture of the pumpkin adds a surprise element that I prefer over potatoes usually found in a yellow curry. Sooooo good! Their Mango Paradise Combo is also delicious! The contrast of sweet mango and their spicy curry along with carrots, onions and lots of fresh basil hits every flavor element. For extra protein I add chicken or shrimp. Over rice, this is a hearty dish. The crisp papaya salad with a dressing of fish sauce, hot peppers and lime, topped with ground peanuts, is always how I start my meal. Located on the northern end of NW 23rd in a charming house, complete with a wrap around porch for outdoor dining, definitely give Tara Thai a try. They are following all protocols and then some during Covid with hand sanitizer provided, lots of space between outdoor tables, and of course takeout.

Yelp
i would give the vegan pad thai a solid 3.5, it was a little on the sweet side and maybe felt like there was something missing but it was still yum. the restaurant was super cozy and the location can't be beat!
google avatar

Sasha L.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite place until Covid hit. The quantity of food has shrunk and stir fry dishes taste bland. Onions taste raw and they're cheap when asked for spicy sauces on the side. I didn't even get asked the level of spiciness on my orders. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Goodby Tara Thai time to find a new Thai joint.

Yelp
Food Was delicious, started out with the fried chicken wings for appetizer and Fried Coconut Shrimp For the main course I had the noodles with shrimp and beef. Service was great as well very friendly staff. Unique Setup with being in a existing home but very welcoming ambiance. Highly recommend if your in the Portland area

Yelp
My daughter and I had an amazing dinner at Tara Thai Northwest. We sat on the patio and enjoyed excellent service in a relaxing atmosphere. The entire staff worked together to provide a safe and clean dining experience. I ordered the Pad Thai with added shrimp and my daughter ordered a spicy curry shrimp dish. Both entrees were excellent but the curry was our favorite. It was pretty spicy but the flavor was amazing.

Yelp
Customer service was good when I went to pick up my food. My food was waiting on a bar light counter top when I came in to pick it up. I wasn't satisfied with my Pad Thai, it was plain and didn't have much flavor. My chicken and my lime were both really dry also. I ordered a side of "sticky rice" for my son and it's was over priced for the VERY small amount that I received. I haven't tried anything else on their menu but I wont be ordering these two things again.

Laura W.

Yelp
I am surprised by the good reviews. We were there on a Tuesday afternoon so maybe other days/chefs are better? Pad Thai with skinny mushy congealed noodles in excessively sweet sauce. The tofu in it was nice, but they couldn't give me enough limes to counter the excess sweet. I wondered if it was a different style but the nice server told me it was Thai style when I asked. I left a bad aftertaste. Neither of us finished it. Ambience was very nice and so was service. I was really sad since we were nearby and I recalled the lovely patio under the tree and expected better. Maybe other dishes are better, but I would not try it again- I feel like it was a bit better pre-covid. Tea was nice
google avatar

Yelp
This BBQ chicken was unbelievable. Unclear which part is BBQ as that appeared to be neither the flavor nor the cooking style but the skin was perfectly crispy and the meat was perfectly juicy and we lost our shit. Highly recommend.

Yelp
While traveling through Portland, I was really craving Thai Iced Tea. This restaurant was calling my name! We got seated right away on the patio, and minutes later our order was taken. The Thai Tea was the star for me. It is just perfectly sweet, and flavorful. The Beef Salad was also fantastic. It came with a sweet dressing that was perfectly paired with the cilantro, and other strong flavors. Tara's combo is an appetizer but I got it as my meal. Absolutely loved how fresh everything was, and nothing needed the sauces, but they were a great addition. Would highly recommend Tara Thai if you are strolling through Portland!

Yelp
We love this place. They have wonderful outdoor seating and a refreshed menu. Food is so yummy and good. The service is wonderful!

Yelp
Excellent pad kee mao (drunken noodles). I got it extra spicy and the flavor was amazing. My partner got the chicken and shrimp wonton soup. The greens were earthy but good. The base of the soup was non pork which hasn't been common for us. Service was great. Will be back!

Aliki A.

Yelp
No complaints on my first visit. Staff was kind and checked in on me a lot. The outdoor seating under the giant tree is just lovely.

Yelp
I used to love going to this place. They used to have good food with decent quality and quantity. The workers customer service skills used to be wonderful. Within a year the quality has taken a turn down the hill, new staffing has made a big difference. We started with ordering salad rolls as an appetizer to find out they are the size of sausages. Then not even a few seconds after a waitress asked us if we were ready to order to then have one immediately after another one asked us again rushing us. When I ordered I asked for the yellow curry. I was disappointed when they brought the food out to see green curry. I didn't want to be rude so I asked if this was what the yellow curry looked like. She told me no this is green curry. The worker then looked at me and asked me three times "are you sure you ordered green my friend wrote down green." I told her politely I had asked for yellow. Then she went and brought out the yellow curry not even 5 minutes later to have the potatoes and onions to be raw and not even cooked. After that my friend had asked if they had a spicy sauce with chilies mixed with fish sauce. The waitress said OK one second let me get some thing. She then came out and put some fish sauce packets on the table. So, my friend asked, do you have any sort of spicy sauce like Sriracha or chili oil afterwards the worker brought out oil in a little cup to us. Me and my friend just gave up trying to get any sort of extra sauce. I am really sorry to the new atmosphere of Tara Thai but this isn't the one I remember! I really hope that they workers and management are able to bring back the lovely food and atmosphere I remember to hopefully enjoy this place again. But in the mean time I wouldn't recommend it.

Yelp
They have both in door and out door dining (with a very nice tent and fire). The menu was huge! So many options we will have to come back. Everything we got was amazing. The Golden Squid is a must.

Larry R.

Yelp
Winter time look is different here patio completely covered so not really outside but when I was there I was by myself until just before I was leaving- around 1-2 pm. Parking was full but 2 cars left after I pulled in.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good spot. Sitting by quickly. The servers are amazingly friendly and pleasant. The food is really tasty and would definitely be returning at some point for more. Definitely a must check out.

Yelp
I love Tara, they have some of the best Thai food in the area. It tastes very clean! The food is sooo authentic, and special. They're always so lovely to order from. They're polite, and helpful. Sticky rice mango is out of this world good!!!

Yelp
I've ordered this to go and I've dined in a handful of times here in the past. Yesterday I stopped in around 2:15, and was seated within a few minutes. All was fine, I ordered my pad Thai and a Thai tea. The waitress brought my tea and a complimentary soup. Food came out probably 10 minutes later (and was ok at best) and the waitress brought the check with her. Ok, weird but fine. I ignored it and started eating. A couple of minutes later the waitress told me that I needed to pay before I ate. I have never been asked this before. Ok, I put my card on the table. I continue to eat and she brings back my card with my receipt and a pen. I continue to eat and she comes back not even one minute later and tell me I need to sign before I can eat. During this same interaction she brings me a box. Seriously? I haven't even had my food for 5 minutes at this point. At this point I was frustrated and check the time, it was 2:40. Google says tara Thai closes at 2:30. I could almost understand if they were trying to rush me out, but there was at least 6 people still eating there when I left, two of which I know came in after me. Why accept guests if you are going to treat them this way? Definitely won't be coming back, I'll go to red onion next time. Thai tea was good, too bad I couldn't finish it before being rushed out.

Yelp
"Just to say "THANK YOU" for our meal. The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. I especially enjoyed the special drinks, Tom Kha and Tamarind Cocktail was great loved it loved it loved it. And my nephew enjoyed his ice cream as well. It was delicious. Thank you so much for the great service I would recommend this lovely restaurant and will try to go back again.

Yelp
The food here is just plain good. Highly recommend. Flavors are wonderful and nothing to complain about.

Jenni B.

Yelp
I've been here a number of times for lunch. I love that their menu had vegetarian and gluten free options. I really like their pad Thai and you can request it with vegan sauce/ so no fish in the sauce. Their salads are also really delicious and flavorful. The staff here are all very nice and accommodating and they make their patrons feel at home every time. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Brett H.

Yelp
One of the best Thai places in the city. The Drunken Noodles are the best in my opinion.
google avatar

Janani R.

Yelp
Amazing vegetarian options! Their outdoor seating is super cozy and warm with great distancing. Great service with quick seating and amazing food.

Yelp
I love Tara Thai! There is so much great Thai food in Portland. It's one of my favorite Thai spots in 23rd. The pad Thai is just so good! The drunken noodle is also a favorite. This is my sit-in-the-park-on-a-sunny-afternoon Thai spot.
google avatar

Yelp
First time trying out Tara Thai NW. They are offering outside seating in a tent warmed up by heat lamps! I visited them last week with family and had a very enjoyable meal. The staff were kind and attentive and food and drinks were brought out promptly without any excessive wait time. Shared a table with my family and we ordered two plates of tofu salad rolls as an appetizer. It came with peanut sauce and it was very, very delicious! Your visit to a Thai restaurant is not complete without ordering fresh salad rolls! Meals arrived very shortly after that. I can only comment on my own food as I didn't taste my family's entrées. I ordered a Shrimp Pad Thai. The price without the shrimp was around $13/14 and shrimp was an added $2. Portion size was on the medium side so not bad. I managed to eat 3/4 of my food and took the remainder home. The flavor of the pad Thai was authentic and very fresh. I liked how well the shrimp was cooked and they gave me a very generous amount of it, too. I loved the ground peanut shredded over the top of the noodles. Sometimes some places don't offer that and you have to ask them for it. Just a fantastic dish and I had zero complaints about it. Also ordered Thai Tea and it was very, very tasty! I loved how rich it tasted and I was impressed that the tea didn't give me a caffeine rush. Great place! Thumbs up from me!

Yelp
The cutest restaurant really!! I'm a sucker for restaurants in old homes. Great Thai food. The drunken noodles were amazing--one of faves ever. The spring rolls were great, that peanut butter sauce to die for. Great service, perfect spot on a perfect weather Portland day. Wish I lived in Portland to visit more!

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Tara Thai and I'm sad I didn't have time to dine-in. Though, that's why I'm here to talk about the excellent take-out experience I had. Tara Thai doesn't open until 12:00, so I placed a take-out order through their website. I liked that there was an option to pay in-store or online (because I had a free voucher which needed to be redeemed in person). They let you pick what time you'd like your food to be ready by, and I was very impressed. My time selection was 12:15 PM since it was the earliest availability. I showed up at 12:10 PM and my food was fresh, hot, and ready for me to take. This is very rare because other places are either a tad behind on time with your food, or prepared it too early so it's sitting on the counter for a while at room temperature. Staff was super friendly upon arrival, and was quick to redeem our vouchers and my friend + myself on our way. It's a good place to do a take-out order if you have a short lunch break. Based on my first good experience, I will definitely be returning with or without a free food voucher!!

Adriana I.

Yelp
This place really impressed me!!! I got a shrimp pad Thai and Thai iced tea to go and both were SO good. Pad Thai was a huge portion too and enough to share between 2. The girls working were also very sweet. Will be coming back for sure!!
google avatar

Connie L.

Yelp
Location: beautiful patio! Great because we brought a dog. Food: average Thai. Not bad, not incredible. We got the yellow curry and pad kee mao - both were fine. Service: kind and attentive. Would have been 3 stars, but the patio was so lovely that I bumped it up to a 4. I think a nice day here sitting outside might actually be a better experience than going to a better Thai restaurant.
google avatar

Malia A.

Yelp
Excellent Thai food! I loved the sticky rice with green curry. We got some to go for our second visit here. The prices are very reasonable and the customer service was wonderful. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great outdoor heated patio during lunch. Went on a Thursday and was about 25% full and plenty of outdoor spots to sit. Clean and flavorful selections - got the khao soi and was on point. Had amazing curry flavors , mild spice , chicken drumstick that was super tender and moist.
google avatar

Yelp
Such wonderful food. Quick service. We had the mango paradise and green curry fried ride. Awesome outdoor seating.
google avatar

Kim B.

Yelp
We had just checked in to our hotel and were very hungry. We drove down 23rd looking for a place to eat. The only parking we could find was at Tara Thai. It turns out that was a lucky break. We were seated right away by a lovely waitress. We ordered and our food was served to us hot in no time. It was so delicious and the prices so reasonable. I highly recommend eating here if you're in Portland
google avatar

Blaine T.

Yelp
Easily some of the most delicious Thai food my wife and I have had in awhile. They didn't use too much oil, spice or too few vegetables/meat. We were greeted by 3 separate things of hand sanitizer upon entering, so they're taking COVID 19 really seriously. They're still open for takeout (as of today). I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for perfectly done Thai food.
