Tascas Are the Best Places to Eat in Lisbon, Portugal

"A no-frills canteen on Lisbon's waterfront, known for its braised tripe and white beans (dobrada). It features a plain interior with white tiles, bright lighting, and red plastic chairs, attracting a mix of construction workers, office workers, families, and friends." - Austin Bush

Excellent dobrada (tripe stew with white beans and sausage), very good morcela assada (grilled blood sausage), and great value house wine (6.50€ for a bottle). I went out of my way to eat here and was not disappointed. Friendly, but busy, Portuguese-language-only service from the waitresses. Filled with locals on their lunch break. Only LOCAL credit cards are accepted, so be prepared for CASH only. Pay at cashier near entrance when finished (note your table number). Free WiFi is available. I visited November 23, 2023, and again in July 2024, for lunch, each time at about 13:00. You should be able to get a table without a reservation, but it may be worth booking ahead. It's about a 15-minute walk East to Jerónimos Monastery / Torre Belém area where you can catch a tram back to Cais do Sodre station in Lisbon; or a 15-minute walk West to the Algés train station to Cascais or Cais do Sodre. Highly recommended!

A very local restaurant in a very non touristic area with good traditional food and a service that made everything it its hand to communicate with us :) I specially recommend the "dobrada", although the meat was too dry for me and my wife.

Locals only, but we found our way in. It helps to know a little Portuguese as this isn't a tourist spot. The portions were generous and the fellow diners friendly and helpful. The beef was a bit tough but tasty. The fish was excellent and the house wine was a great value.

Yelp
Extremely long waiting time and quite a confusion as soon as you enter. The waiters were not the most helpful or cheerful. As soon as we sat down we notice the menu was limited. The food all arrived at different times. My dish, the salmon was wonderful. However, they did not provide us with the proper cutlery for the meat and the Sardines needed a little more seasoning. All of the servings was enough for two people instead of one. All the desserts were pre-bought and lacking a lot of flavour. If you are thinking of coming to this restaurant, I would only recommend you come for the main course as everything else is rather disappointing.
