My two-night stay at Tashi Namgay Resort in Paro left me with mixed feelings. While the property's location and views are undeniably stunning, the overall experience fell short of the premium touch one would expect from a 4-star hotel.
The resort is nestled amidst a breathtaking landscape, offering panoramic views that truly capture the essence of Paro's beauty. The lush surroundings and serene atmosphere provide a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. This, I must say, is the hotel's biggest asset.
However, the service and amenities did not live up to the spectacular location. The most disappointing aspect was the food, particularly the vegetarian options at the breakfast and dinner buffets. The food was consistently bland and lacked flavor, to the point of being inedible. The rotis, a staple of Indian cuisine, were clearly made in bulk and left to go cold, rather than being served fresh and warm. For a hotel of this caliber, the quality of the food was a significant letdown.
Furthermore, several key facilities were either closed or seemed to be under maintenance. The Woochu Sports Arena was inaccessible, and even if it had been open, there was no staff present to assist guests. Similarly, the poolside cafe appeared to be closed. While I understand that some amenities might have reduced hours during the off-season, a 4-star hotel should ensure that its advertised facilities are operational or at least provide guests with prior notice.
Another small but telling detail was the absence of basic amenities like dental kits in the room bathrooms. While this might seem minor, it's these little touches that differentiate a premium hotel from a standard one.
In conclusion, while Tashi Namgay Resort offers a breathtaking setting, it needs to significantly improve its service, food quality, and facility management to truly justify its 4-star rating. The stunning views can only compensate for so much.
