Squished in like sardines
They really take advantage of the high amount of campervans in Christchurch! All the big RVs get a decent hard standing with grass and picnic tables next to them (for $89 a night), but the small campervans are squished into tiny spots that you can barely fit onto.
We booked the expensive site just to treat ourselves, thinking it would be clean and spacious…
Stayed one night in our 5m campervan. We were on a spot that was big enough for one campervan comfortably, but they squish two onto it, with our side doors about 1 metre apart. This was the smallest site I’ve seen since travelling the north and South Island. It’s one of the last we’ve seen, the most expensive we’ve stayed at, and the worst!
We asked to move to another site if possible, and swapped to another grass pitch with no one next to us. Less muddy, but not very wide. Our 5m van literally only just fit, the bumper as close to the wall as possible and the boot opening over the road.
The facilities did not make up for this either, the bathrooms were dirty from 2:30pm when we arrived, until we left at 10am the next day. They are not cleaned regularly as they state. Yes, I could have asked them to come and clean the bathrooms, but I thought that would be included in the $79 a night!
We did receive lovely service from the ladies on reception, and there’s plenty of bathrooms, kitchen space and other stuff to do on site.
If you want lots of activities and don’t mind the high price tag, maybe this is the place for you, but if you just want somewhere clean and comfortable to stay in your campervan, maybe look elsewhere.
