Having lived in Sydney for most of my life I'm quite surprised to say it was my first trip to Tatlers the other night, a small club and live music venue located on Darlinghurst road in the Cross.
If you've never been there before it's a little difficult to find, a small doorway and a minute rectangular sign above it are the only way to identify you've come to the right place. Though once you're in and have descended the staircase to the welcoming venue below, you're sure not to forget it.
A small carpeted area with tables is the first room on your right and is also where the bar is located, there are then another two rooms, the first room usually being where the musicians play and an outside deck area with some seating and tables.
The night my wife and I went was a Wednesday. There was a live band playing and afterwards a live jam session for musicians, luckily the crowd was older than your typical right out of school crowd looking to booze it up at Soho or World bar at the Cross, with a mix of musicians and what seemed to be regulars.
Apart from being a little left out of the clique that seemed to have formed amongst the muso's, the night was alot of fun. A lot of soulful tunes, dancing, some jamming and improvising too by the musicians. Definitely coming back here, a really fun night out.
