Tatsumi always lives up to its promise of giving us a taste of authentic elgance. Their new tapas style menu offers a superb opportunity to taste a range of their exquisite creations. We had Softshell crab Hokkaido scallops Fish Carpaccio Crispy Southland Cod Gyoza Tortellini Chawanmushi Salmon Teriyaki All of them were a delight. Ryuji and Shoma looked after us very well. A great culinary experience all around.

We have been eating at Tasumi since it opened in Christchurch over 10 years ago. We ate at their restaurant in Auckland when they moved there after the Christchurch earthquakes. Now after not seeing them for many years we have caught up with them in Queenstown. Their Japanese cuisine is still as yummy as we remember it. Cannot taste it anywhere else. Fully recommended!

This is one of the best Japanese restaurants we’ve been to in NZ. The service was excellent - the wait staff were very attentive and warm. Everything we ordered was delicious too! Couldn’t fault a thing. We ordered quite a few things to try - the salmon sashimi, salmon nigiri, vegetable tempura, prawn tempura, tuna sushi roll, karaage, lamb cutlets, and black sesame crème brûlée. Definitely come here for authentic Japanese food and lovely service. We’ll be back when we’re in Queenstown again!

Had my birthday dinner here. Well worth it! Service was fantastic. The food was elevated dinning. The flavours and experience with every bite was amazing. Highly recommend the beef cheeks so unbelievable tender. We will be back again on our next vacation.

Very friendly and kind staff that helped me with the booking throughout! The Degustation Menu was interesting, being fit to the New Zealand palette, heavier tasting food and a focus on local ingredients such as lamb, cod, oysters, scallops, etc. The best part of the meal for me was the Green Tea, a great palette cleanser and refresher. While these flavours are not typical of Japanese Menus in Singapore, I appreciate the commitment to these flavours and ingredients, and thought that overall the meal was satisfactory. If you are looking for a fine experience of New Zealand Japanese Cuisine, this place will do.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this incredible Japanese restaurant, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and genuinely warm, making us feel welcome and valued as guests. The food was absolutely phenomenal. Each dish was a masterpiece, beautifully presented and bursting with authentic flavors. The sushi was sashimi fresh, with each piece melting in your mouth, and the variety of options ensured there was something for everyone to enjoy. The food was rich and flavorful, with a perfect balance of ingredients that created a comforting, satisfying meal. The drinks were equally impressive—the cocktails were amazing and creatively designed, with a great variety of Japanese liqueurs that added a special touch to the experience. The attention to detail, both in the preparation of the food and the overall dining experience, was evident throughout. It’s clear that this restaurant takes great pride in delivering top-notch service and exceptional cuisine. If you’re a fan of Japanese food, this place is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be returning soon!

The service is very attentive and polite. However, the food was nowhere near worth the price. It simply didn’t taste good, and the combination of ingredients didn’t work. We honestly laughed heartily at the food out of sheer surprise. When you walk in, it smells like old frying fat—if I’m right, just leave at that point. The white wine is served warm, and the staff kindly offers you ice cubes to cool it down.
