Tatte Bakery & Cafe | Charles St

Gosh, I really really wanted to give them five stars. Instead, here is a very thorough review of why this is not so. After three tries to produce a hot Cortado, they were all somehow a little bit colder than the first. The pastries are great though! I came in here last year and really enjoyed the gorgeous pastry offerings. and whimsical holiday pastries and cookies. We lived in the neighborhood for many years, so each year we revisit. Then I recently visited in October 2025. It was just a few blocks from our house (we were on a home swap, so we had an extended stay, and I was here quite a bit). Each day I would walk down the hill for my morning coffee and pastry here. Each time I would order a cortado. The first time it was Lukewarm, but by no means warm. So the second time I asked for a “extra hot” and it was even less hot than the first time. And this continued to the point where it was so lukewarm at some point that if it was bathwater I would say it was a little bit chilly. I’m not exaggerating. And every time I said ‘extra hot’ they seem to compensate by not actually producing an extra hot drink, but instead putting in less cream/milk. So at some point, I was just looking at a macchiato. It was lukewarm espresso with just a bit of foam on top. No longer even a Cortado. And still, lukewarm. Why did I keep coming back? Part of me was hopeful that one day they would fix it, and also, the pastries are exquisite! The croissants are some of the best in town. And one day I had a croissant with some cheese and some meat in it and it was sublime! So I love the pastries, and I really want this to be my café when I am in town. But I just need my coffee to be warm. Not scalding, not hot. But at least warm.

Tatte Bakery is simply amazing. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the aroma of fresh-baked goods that look as good as they taste. Their croissants are perfectly flaky, buttery, and absolutely delicious, and the coffee is rich, aromatic, and consistently excellent. What makes it even better is its close proximity to the park — the perfect spot to grab something to go and enjoy a crisp fall day outdoors. Tatte truly delivers on both quality and charm.

The cafe sits on Charles St. in a beautiful part of the city. It’s very busy and super small inside. If there’s no available table (you seat yourself), they put your meal in a box… no matter what you order. I ordered a dish that had scrambled eggs, goat cheese, tomatoes, toast. It was absolutely delicious but wasn’t really a to-go type meal. Luckily I found a table on the patio to enjoy my meal. It was right next to a ton of trash cans and the birds were everywhere. It didn’t smell but it was unsightly. I would definitely eat here again, but I might try one of their other several locations to see if the atmosphere is different. It’s hectic and you kind of feel in the way with this one. The coffee is great and the staff was nice.

Tatte, simply delicious. Pictured: Pulled Turkey Sandwich (6/10) + Crème Pesto Mushroom Sashuka (100000/10) Location/Ambiance: Honestly if it’s the weekend try to avoid this specific location just because you’ll probably not going to find a seat/table anywhere. It’s a cute location, not modern in design like other Tatte locations. Super cute/cozy!

The B.A.L.T and the chicken pita were incredible, one of the best BLTs I’ve had in the city. Drinks, both iced and hot, were also fantastic. Service was okay, it was very busy but one of the staff roller their eyes when we asked for the apple turnover to be warm. We got the apple turnover and it wasn’t warm after asking twice. Even with that the apple turnover was very yummy! Overall had a good time and would come back!

Incredible! We had a dessert, donut, breakfast sandwich, and coffee. All of it was fantastically delicious. We were able to share a table with other out of towners and had great conversation. Friendly staff and quality food in a fun neighborhood. We can't wait to come back when we're in the area!

If you’re looking for great pastries and quiche like type of food, this is the place. Lines get very long and can take quite a long time to get your order. The breakfast dishes are quite good.

The staff consistently does an amazing job of making a very busy and often overwhelming location feel cozy, comfortable and high quality. My food and drinks are always carefully prepared fresh and are delicious. I think the staff works really hard at providing calm and lovely customer service despite a very high-stress environment. Thank you for always being so welcoming!

Tatte Beacon Hill location was a treat! The kindest associate took our order, answered questions etc. The Tatte Latte was really unique for me & although I love sweets I do not enjoy sweet drinks. Went with 1/2 the syrup and it was delightful! The kouign- amann was our least favorite but we are especially particular as there is a shop near home that has the best ever!! The quiche was fluffy & delicious The oatmeal was the best oatmeal we have ever had! The ambiance is Non de script and not cozy it is a busy efficient establishment with good service

Stopped here for a sweet treat on a snowy day. I've been to other locations but not this one. It's always busy inside which is a good sign. Today I just got a cheesecake cup which was delicious. It's rich and creamy and served in a cute little cup. They also serve breakfast, lunch and drinks. We luckily found seating despite how packed it was. It's in a central location in Beacon Hill right in the middle of everything on the main drag. Line also goes quickly despite how daunting it may seem.

We stopped by this bakery after hanging around the area for some quick treats. It's a small place so it was super crowded but service was quick. The pastries were so pretty that I had to order a couple to try. I had the passion fruit krembo, the pineapple passion fruit matcha mousse, crumbs cheesecake in a cup, and a chocolate chip cookie. All of them were just not it...not even the chocolate chip cookie...It was my first time trying a krembo so I'm not sure if I'm just not a krembo person but this dessert, I had to toss. The matcha cake and mousse part of the pineapple passion fruit matcha mousse was good but maybe the pairing of the fruits just didn't work for me. The person who packed my pastries gave me two small single looking boxes and asked if I had everything - so I asked if the krembo, cheesecake and matcha mousse was in there and he said yes. So I said then that would be everything. The boxes looked so small that I did not think it could fit all 3 pastries inside so I opened it to look and notice the krembo missing. I had to go back to the counter to ask for my krembo but come on, how can you ask me if I have everything and then say yes when I list all the pastries I've ordered, but it's not actually there.

Probably the quaintest (in my opinion), location that was giving barn vibes as it shares an outside space with other businesses. It's located quite convenient to the esplanade and the Charles RL station. I feel like this location might be the smallest Tatte I've been to, yet they're all unique in their own way! I ordered the iced tahini pumpkin oatmilk latte, which was a nice mix of seasonal pumpkin and the nuttiness of the tahini.

I stopped by Tatte Bakery & Café in Boston on a rainy day and treated myself to a mocha latte -- it was absolutely delicious! I also had a blueberry cheesecake, which was scrumptious, and a breakfast sandwich that was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. The café was very busy, and at first it was a little tough to find a place to sit -- especially since I wanted to dine in and stay out of the rain. Eventually, someone got up and I found a spot at a large shared table, which actually made the experience feel even cozier. The space has this lovely country modern farmhouse vibe -- bright, welcoming, and full of charm. I noticed they also had Shakshuka on the menu, and if I'd had more time in town, I definitely would've come back to try it because it looked so good.

Omg I get the hype! This place was packed but we actually got a seat pretty fast. There was a line but it went fast. I ordered a chai latte, which was good but the best thing was the Potato, Mushroom, & Bacon Shakshuka. Omg. My first time having shakshuka and I'm in love. Such good flavors. This was probably my favorite meal of the trip. So good and would definitely come back here while visiting!!

Found this cute little spot by happy accident! The vibe is so cute and makes you want to be here. The service was good. Most of the people I encountered were great. I got a cappuccino and a pastry I can't pronounce lol but both were very good. It's a place I think most people would really enjoy.

We stopped here first thing after arriving at Logan Airport running on 2 hours of sleep! The most delicious honey latte I've ever had! The quiche was delicious, fluffy and flavorful. This particular location is small but adorable! Tables are communal style but patrons are friendly. Tatte's a must when in Boston!

I was hoping we would get the chance to check out a Tatte Bakery & Cafe while visiting Boston since they have many locations through town. Their menu looked amazing, right up my alley. We passed a Tatte location in Beacon Hill while going up to visit the Monument. On the way back, we decided that we need a reward for almost finishing the Freedom Trail, lunch time was coming so what more excuses did we need? The place is big, the decor is nice, stylish, clean, airy. Great place for breakfast, lunch, brunch, or a snack, a coffee, a drink. We got there passed 1 pm and the selection of pastries was so great, they still had many on displays, making our decision so hard. We do love our pastries. Lots of croissants, Kouign-Amann, morning buns, fruit danish-es, cheese boureka, scones, halva cookies. Later on I noticed a tempting look fruit gllette - picture perfect! We got a strawberry turnover which turned to be fantastic and a jelly donut (raspberry jelly), a very classy, upscale version, full of jelly! Everything is fresh, the presentation is beautiful and the taste beats the expectations! For drinks, since it was a hot day, we wanted something cold and refreshing, an iced tea type - fruit flavored with ice, or anything on this note! I asked the girl who was helping us for advice since it was our first time there and she couldn't recommend anything. I don't know if she was new or she has a hard time talking to people, gets frozen when asked a question, but that's why I lowered my rating - not the best customer service. She was doing her job, wanted us done with, but couldn't help. I asked for 2 lemonades thinking they would come in a cup with ice, but they were bottled. Once again, she couldn't advice when I asked her. I did send them back, checked the menu and decided on 1 Preserved Fig Lemon Mint Soda and 1 Sparkling Matcha Lemonade which were just what we needed, fun drinks, refreshing with ice, it was great to try new things. I never had a fig oriented drink, but this one was nice, not too sweet, great unique flavor! We're not huge on Match, but the Matcha Lemonade tasted very nice, definitely more on the lemonade side! I do liked the Fig one more if I have to choose! Prices were decent, wish service was friendlier and helpful! Lots of nice seating options, great vibe, clean restrooms! Water from the house! Nice bakery and cafe! Glad we managed to have time and try it out! We need a Tatte or more in Los Angeles! Great pastry break during visiting Boston!

Cute coffee spot with lots of great pastries and breakfast sandwiches. The Tatte Latte was really yummy. Service was fast and staff were friendly.

Very fancy looking inside with a great amount of pastries. Unfortunately the food was just okay. I ordered a fruit box tart, iced matcha latte, and a BLAT. The tart was mediocre for being almost $8, the matcha was incredibly bitter, and the sandwich was alright, apart from the bacon that was chewy as if it had been made a while ago. Staff aren't very kind either. I suppose they focused mostly on looks and seating rather than quality.

Everyone said to go to Tatte for breakfast when visiting Boston, and it lived up to the hype! I love Mediterranean flavors and the influence was throughout their food. The breakfast plate had mint Parmesan on the potato fritters which added a lightness to the fried potato. The tomato jam brought an acidity to break up the richness. Would love to come back and try some pastries next time I'm back in the city.

Cute place with matter Mediterranean flavor. Which was a interesting concept for a coffee shop. TheTatte latte was really good with their homemade syrup that was a hit. I also had the fig lemon, mint soda, but that fell flat. I felt like it needed to be mixed more instead of everything floating at the bottom. I really love the cheese Boureka, but I wish they could heat them up lightly. Be prepared to wait, that's how good things come lol. It was a line out the door, but it went fast. You place the order grab a number if you eat in and you wait. they have vegetarian options, meat and pastries. This is a nice spin on the coffee and pastry shop than what I'm used to. But in a good way.

Good pastries and great drinks. The iced mango and ginger cooler were refreshing. The Kouign-Amann was flaky and had a soft layered inside. The petite nut box was my favorite as the name suggests filled with mixed nuts and the honey caramel filling was a perfect contrast to the heaviness of the nuts. The service is quick and friendly they get a big lunch rush and try to move the line as quick as possible.

I love going to Tatte's bakery for a nice breakfast/brunch! I came right before the big morning rush on Saturday, and was lucky enough to order with no line and get a seat. I got the pistachio croissant and scrambled egg plate. They were both delicious. I will say, I do wish there was more filling in the pistachio croissant, but other than that I had a great experience!

We loved going here when we visited on vacation!!! The bakery items were amazing, especially the apple pie they were always super nice. When walking by, we'd often smell the bakery items baking (which is what drew us in). The inside has cute seating and is a lovely coffee shop vibe.

The bakery looks aesthetically pleasing and there are a lot of choices for baked goods. But the food and drinks were only ok. Paired with the price - definitely overhyped. We ordered a ginger date latte and an iced matcha latte. The ginger date latte was ok but matcha was bad. No matcha flavor with weird aftertaste. The pistachio layered tarts had no pistachio flavor and the shortbread crust was too thick and kinda dry

I can't even begin to describe how amazing this spot was. Seriously delicious cherry cheese croissant. Craving it over here from the west coast currently! My iced mocha was perfect; not too sweet, not too bitter. Such a great place to relax with a cool, relaxed vibe.

The coffee was terrible! but the pastry's were delicious, we came back to try it twice! Coffee was a no go both times, same location.

Really good matches rhubarb, cool interior, and a solid strawberry donut. Price was reasonable, and the area is neat. Id definitely return and recommend. Parking is a little tough but street spots are available with a bit of a walk.

Good bakery. My complaint is that the line goes out the front door and despite multiple requests, people refused to close the door while waiting in line. So essentially, if you were eating inside, you were basically eating outside. We had a baby with us and were seated by the door so had to leave early because the room was so cold. Staff, while nice, said they couldn't do anything. Mind you, this is in 40 degree Boston weather so our family was freezing.

We stopped in for brunch at Tatte Cafe. The place was packed at 11:30 A.M. on a Friday. We each got the House Breakfast Plate - eggs, bacon, potato hash browns, and sourdough bread. It was good. The location is convenient during the holidays as it is located just across the street from the Holiday Market at Snowport.

Let me start by saying it was uncomfortably hot inside--I was sweating just waiting in line to order. Not the best first impression. I went with the iced pistachio latte, which was...fine. Nothing special, and honestly, I expected more. The pistachio bar, however, was a letdown--super dry and pretty bland. I definitely wish I'd ordered a different snack. The prices were okay, and the staff was friendly, but the overall experience didn't leave me wanting to come back. There are plenty of other spots I'd rather try next time. If they work on the atmosphere and step up the food quality, it could have potential, but for now, it's a pass for me.

Cute cafe we found while walking around Boston! I got an iced caramel latte with oat milk and a sourdough breakfast sandwich. Both pretty good! The wait was a bit long and it's busy in there so be prepared to wait a little bit :) lots of pastries to pick from too.

Tatte is always reliable for their good brunch food, caffeine drinks, and pastries. It's in a prime locations being on Charles Street with all the popular shops and restaurants. It is very busy, but it is smaller than the other locations. There are a few tables inside in addition to some outdoor dining tables. I came here on a Sunday afternoon to order some takeout. The croissant breakfast sandwich was soft and flaky and perfect with avocado and runny eggs. The salmon and avocado tartine had a nice kick of tartness and was delicious. I would order both of these dishes again! For drinks, the pistachio latte was decent, but it was only pistachio flavored. It would've been great if it came with pieces of pistachio. The matcha latte was average. Service was quick, but it still took about 10 minutes to get the food and drinks. Napkins and utensils were on the table and easily accessible.

A famous chain. This location was packed on a random weekday...Staffs were kinda moody and not very helpful, unfortunately. The Pistachio and Cherry Tart was delicious though. Their breakfast items were also decent. They do have a big spread of bakeries and food options so you'll be sure to find something you like. The Cortado was nice and strong as well.

We love everything about this bakery!! The food is amazing! The staff is friendly and efficient! There is always a line but they manage to get the orders in and out quickly! We love that this location because it is next to the Boston Commons Park! The bakery goods are scrumptious! I always take a little something to go! Outstanding in every way! It is a must when in Boston!

I get the hype - my latte was just what I needed after a travel day, and my kouign amann was super light and airy! I have a pretty high bar for coffee and was surprised this was one of the better spots I've been to. My kouign amann was just lightly sweet, which was perfect and what I was hoping for. Decent amount of seating and super nice environment, from the natural lighting to the friendly staff. Recommend!

Had to try the famous tatte coffee while on my Boston trip. I will start by saying customer service is not their forte, however I tasted the tatte house latte and it was a nice blend between the honey and coffee. I also tried the pistachio croissant and it was tasty. The place was packed for 12:00pm on a Thursday. The seating is limited, but the place is bright with a big menu.

Nice spot to grab some breakfast and some pasties. I liked their breakfast sandwiches, pretty filling.

Great bakery to stop and grab a treat! There are many locations around Boston which makes it nice. The service is super quick and friendly here. You can take it to go or sit in their seating area. I got the coconut raspberry tart and a Jerusalem bagel. The coconut raspberry tart was soooo good! So much coconut and the tart shell was so crispy and buttery. My fave will always be the Jerusalem bagel! I love how light and crispy it is. Perfect on the go snack.

Really great cafe and experience. Kind staff, clean facility, cute seasonal items. My two qualms are the wait time, but it is very busy so that is somewhat expected. Second how we is I ordered a specialty latte assuming it would come with espresso, or at least some form of caffeine and it didn't. This seems abnormal to me, so I wish the menu would have called out its lack of caffeine.

I've come here way too often on my five day trip but that's because this place is awesome. They have really great coffee, delicious, pastries, and really savory and filling plates like omelettes and sandwiches. They're located at what seems to be every corner so they're easily accessible and offer a relaxing, ambience and mood, especially in the cold winter

I always go to Tatte Bakery & Cafe for breakfast whenever I'm in Boston. This time I went to the Back Bay location. Amazing healthy and oganic food options, pastries and specialty coffees and teas. Service is good in a packed, cold and breezy morning, everybody inside the counter were helping guests at the line even before their turn at the ordertaker at the counter. I had the House Breakfast Plate which consists of 2 eggs any way, applewood smoked bacon, potato fritters with tomato jam and mint parmesan. This plate was a perfect meal to start my busy day around Boston. Tatte Bakery & Cafe have a cozy, casual and relaxing ambiance though the place is always packed with people from all walks of life as this is a popular cafe, and gets really busy too when its cold outside. They have an outside dining patio as well but not a good idea in a 40 degree morning. Food and coffee will definitely go cold quickly. Overall, a great dining experience and place for a quick bite, start your day, grab a coffee or just hang out. Check it out!

Very friendly customer service. I found a perfect spot!! Very clean and neat. A great place to work for sure!! The food it's so good you have to try it !

We stopped in just to grab a cold drink on a scorching hot day. I got the Matcha rhubarb lemonade, it was very good! We also tried these little meringue cookies. Not our fav, not terrible. Really cute place, it was packed in there, not too many open seats. I will say though that the service is not friendly at all.

As a tourist, I'd never experienced this cafe but I'd heard it was the best in Boston so I had to come check it out! It definitely didn't disappoint. The coffee was good, we tried the pistachio latte and the house latte and preferred pistachio. However, the star of the show was the food. We tried quite a few things; shakshouka, raspberry yogurt meringue cloud, cheesecake crumble cup, chocolate mousse cup, chocolate and caramel cup, raspberry tart, pistachio croissant, and passion fruit krembo. Everything was good but the standouts were the croissant, the krembo, and the mousse. They definitely stay busy so I advise coming here with patience, but trust me, it's so worth it. I'll be thinking about these pastries until hopefully I get to have them again!

Drinks were the best part of our breakfast there! They have alternative milks like almond milk and oat milk. Food came out pretty quick, the bakery items are super yummy especially the strawberry danish. I also got the egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, it was okayyyyy I def added a lot of hot sauce to it but I loveee spicy food.

Wonderful food, coffee, and service!! I love the chicken pita it came out in just a few minutes at a pretty busy time and same with my latte. For real the service was so great everyone was very efficient and accommodating but chill at the same time which is really hard to pull off in a busy cafe! Pulled the manager aside to compliment everything and she seemed to really appreciate it. I was having a pretty bad day and randomly stopped here for a bite to eat and it really fixed me right up.

They have a nice pastry selection. I wasn't as thrilled with their coffee. Overall a nice place to grab a snack

Had a morning coffee and salmon tartine and got my mans a sammie. everything was delicious and i have no bad review. i also got some dessert which was the matcha bomb and HOLY SMOKES. it's so good.

This was our first time visiting Tatte Bakery.....we came across this bakery while exploring the neighborhood, and since we had heard of Tatte Bakery, we thought we'd give it a try to see what the fuss was all about. Specifically about this location, the staff here didn't seem too friendly, and the young lady who attended to us just seemed kind of moody, or perhaps it was because there was some 20 minutes before closing time and everyone just wanted to close up shop and go home asap. Whatever it was, we didn't feel very welcomed and were rushed to place our order. Furthermore, after we did place our order, we sat at the window bar counter to nibble on our desserts, and then one of the staff started cleaning up and sweeping the floor while we were still sitting there.....not a very good first impression. As for what we ordered.....a freshly baked (so we were told) Plain Chocolate Brownie and a Sour Cherries Almond Scone. The brownie texture was so smooth, had a nice amount of sweetness, and oh so decadently delicious! It was, however, a bit too sweet for my personal taste, but I can definitely see and taste how this would be a very popular dessert among chocolate brownie lovers. The scone, on the other hand, was not quite to my liking. The flavors were not bad, not too sweet at all, but just tasted hard and dry. If I were to ever eat a scone like this again, I would want to dunk it into my my hot milk tea, then perhaps I would enjoy it more. I wish I could have given this place a better review, but overall, the experience didn't deserve it. On a separate note, we did go try a Tatte Bakery elsewhere a couple of days later, and there we silky had a much better experience.

So cozy you'll think you're in a Hallmark movie. This location especially does not feel like a chain. Very solid cappuccino, and the chai is pretty good. Not too sweet. The lemon poppyseed cake is addictive. Plan for that. You'll be back. Count yourself lucky if you find a seat. Ever. But if you do, it'll be hard to leave because it's so darn cozy. Wear your niftiest preppy print woolens and just wait for your leading man/lady to show up for your meet cute.

Not much seating, so we had to cram in a tiny corner which sucked a little, but a really nice woman moved over for us so that was awesome. The workers were really nice, but the food was alright. User error maybe though bc what can I expect from a salad. It sounded better on the menu though and my chicken was dry. Egg sandwich was good according to my boyfriend.

"Tatte" like "latte". Located in Beacon Hill, this is a great cafe with so many food options. They have plenty for lunch or a quick pastry and bevvie pick up. Their menu includes many Mediterranean items and spices. They had an orange upside down cake that was gorgeous and got my curiosity. Their teas are delicious. I got an avocado sandwich and tea for lunch and sat ate one of the longer tables. Everyone seemed to fall into conversation with each other on the freezing day when I found myself at Tatte. I met most of the people that came and went from my table during the 1+ hour I was there. I intended to read the book I'd just bought from the adorable Beacon Hill Bookstore and Cafe across the street, but the people at my table were so nice and interesting, I ended up chatting with them most of the time. The staff are very nice too. I couldn't find the water (strollers were in front of them), so one of the staff made his way around them and got me some water. So nice of him. Tatte is from the area, and they also have locations in Washington, DC. I want to try their other locations!

Got so many recommendations to try Tatte while in Boston! We stopped by their beacon hill location and it was PACKED! It's definitely the place to be. I got the Turkey BLAT and subbed their challah bread! It was SO good and tasted so fresh. I also got a berry cheesecake cup that was delicious. So soft and not too sweet. I adored this place.

This place was very cute and friendly. The coffee was very nice and affordably priced. The pastry items looked very appealing and appetizing, but did not taste very good. Some of them were hard and dry. I would come here only for the coffee.

One of my favorite bakeries in Boston. I've tried a multitude of their breakfast sandwiches and pastries and everything is always delectable. The coffee is also great. Don't skip out on their season coffees.
