Taupo Thermal Motel & Spa

When we first arrived, it gave the impression of a relatively basic/simple, clean motel, and we weren't quite sure why it was rated as 9.3 Exceptional. But over the couple of days we were there, we realised. The room was clean, comfortable, and actually better equipped than we first realised (glasses, mugs, microwave, fridge, sink, etc.). The main shower - OMG! I swear - it's probably the best shower I've had in my life. Lovely and hot, and very high pressure (if you want it to be). I've never looked forward to a shower as much! The private mineral/spa pool outside the back was very private (completely sheltered and roofed), and again, lovely and hot. It's not a whirlpool/spa (with jets) but it's a fab, relaxing space (and you can also use that as a shower as well). The receptionist/manager/front desk lady was absolutely lovely! Very friendly and helpful and chatty. The shared thermal pools out the back of the complex were fab too - four different temperature hot pools and one cold/plunge pool, and free to use for residents. Only thing to be aware of is it's a reasonable walk (about 25-30 minutes) into the main centre, but there are taxis/Uber. Overall a fab stay and incredibly good value for money. Would definitely stay again!

Our room was dirty. Very poor housekeeping. Dirt and dust on light switches and baseboards. No cutlery or glass ware washed before our stay. Do not stay here. We paid $879 for 3 nights. All the cupboards in the kitchen were sticky. When we complained Carol fobbed us off saying it was very busy. Not good enough. Carol you took our money but you didn’t deliver an acceptable service or product.

This destination offers a wonderful experience for a peaceful vacation, truly a hidden gem in Taupo. Carol is very friendly and pleasant. The excellent services contribute to a warm and welcoming experience for customers. The rooms are generously sized and offer a beautiful view of the lake. The shower provides good water pressure, and the bed is very comfortable. The thermal spa facilities are exceptional. They are meticulously clean and well-maintained, providing a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. Guests have the option to choose from various spa temperatures. This establishment is exclusively for adults. I particularly appreciate the thoughtful signage throughout the spa area, which gently encourages guests to maintain a quiet environment, allowing one to fully appreciate the sounds of nature, such as the wind or birdsong, while soaking. It's an ideal setting to unwind and rejuvenate. The amenities are excellent and hygienic, including complimentary lockers and slippers, as well as convenient changing rooms for guests. A significant advantage is that the spa is accessible to adults who are not staying at the motel, at a reasonable cost. This truly is a hidden gem in Taupo.

Rooms are fine, management very friendly but what makes this place really special are the amazing hot baths on site which are recently developed. 5 different temperatures (from cold to >42 degrees), spa bubbles, showers, lockers and a great place to relax. Free to guests but also open to visitors so if you don’t stay here, at least come and check it out. Perfect for a quick soak to start the day, finish the day or spend the day!

This place is 5 star for us ea h and ever time. We absolutely love it and the hospitality is amazing much a friendly place. We got upgraded to the super king room with spa. Absolutely the best the bed is amazing. We look forward to coming back in the new year. The view is stunning. This is our favourite lodge. Hopefully we get to try out the new thermal pool looks amazing. Best rest and relaxation you could ever ask for. 5stars all round from us. Kirk mcdermott Sharlene mcdermott

Beautiful room with a huge thermal spa as well as a balcony. Great to relax after a long day hiking. It was also very nice to have a kitchen as well. Bed comfortable, shower great. Owner was very sweet and kind, Check-in was quick and easy. Would stay again.

This motel is a perfect base for exploring Taupo. Its greatest advantage is the location; it's only a 5-minute to the stunning Taupo Lake. Our room was excellent, featuring a private spa which was so relaxing after a day of sightseeing. We also tried the public spa area, which was lovely with its variety of water temperatures. What made our stay even better were the little things: the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and our room was impeccably clean and tidy. We will definitely be back!

Delightful experience for me & my 2 teenage sons, thanks to the most welcoming hostess who helped us feel welcome, gave a bit of history, & location of other places to visit, & local restaurants, etc. Thanks so very much, we loved our private experience, just us 3 at the pools! Gorgeous setting, several pools at differing temperatures, & lovely changing room facilities.
