Taupo Urban Retreat Backpackers

Good location, fair price and seems to be tidy enough. Rented a room good for 5 people and we had our own toilet. We were able to cook our own food, play pool (2$ per game) and their is laundry available if needed. Only negative thing was a lot of insects/bugs flying in the room. I think they were attracted to the light. They was a certain coming off the A/C too but gradually disappears.

I really liked the place with friendly staff and country-like climate in the bustling centre of the city. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable - no signs of the bedbugs. Only disadvantage is that you cannot bring your own alcohol and the pub closes at 9 pm, so you really can't grab any beer in here.

Stayed one night here, and the price was cheap, the room was clean and also had decently comfy beds. The wifi is good, the kitchen/main hall is very comfy. The best part of this place is the cheap, cheap bar. 4$ beers and wine is nothing to sneer at, and their middle-earth themed cocktails were very tasty! If you want to book with a few friends and get liquored up on the cheap, this is the place.

This Backpackers is up for sale (Jan 2022). The pandemic has hit it hard, but it is still a great place to stay. Very central and handy to everything. Kerry, the owner was very friendly and helpful. The price for a room seemed high for a backpackers, but then this is a very clean place in a hugely popular tourist location.

Such a cute well laid out place! The room was very spacious with a lovely view of the lake with very clean facilities and an excellent kitchen. Having designated free parking was a huge bonus as well. Will definitely be back!

Friendly staff, handy location, clean, earplugs provided . Wifi was very fast. However if you are a light sleeper you will notice the walls seem very thin and can almost understand what people are saying in the next room. Later on at night there was a noisy vibration similar to a heavy vehicle idling outside but appears to be a fan vibrating the wall. If earplugs work OK for you its a good cheap stay. by isolating the fan heaters from the walls, and modifying the interior walls it would be 4/5

Not bad. Room was a little hot and something bit me all over my feet during the night. More of a party hostel then I expected - bar, beer pong, stag parties - but it wasn't too loud from the rooms and the bar closes pretty early. Bathrooms were fine, staff was really nice. Was a little strange to not be able to bring beer in due to their licensing.

Met Chris and Kerry, Great hosts/owners and will help get your accommodation sorted out no wuckers👍they are located in the perfect spot with great outdoor area to sit. It's a good and clean hostel.
