I have been travelling to Tavarua Island Resort annually for nearly 40 years and it has continued to evolve and improve every year.|My most recent visit, November 2024 was fantastic! |Airport transfers were organized perfectly. |The resort was clean and running really well and the Fijian staff are always a pleasure to be around. |It's still the best food in Fiji . Buffet style , three healthy meals a day with plenty of choice and honestly better than any restaurant I’ve eaten at in Sydney.|The quality of the local ingredients includes seafood and amazing fruits.|In the early days Tavarua was a surf focused destination. These days, whilst waves can be amazing, it’s more like having a week in a health resort! Totally relaxing with lots of swimming, snorkeling, surfing, reading and sleeping! |The snorkeling is straight off the beach, lots of amazing tropical fish and Tavarua have established a clam rehabilitation program so you can check them out too !|These days there are a lot of young families, dedicated surfers and crusty old surfers and their wives . A good mix , you’ll always meet very interesting people on Tavarua!|I would definitely recommend checking it out and whilst expensive it’s very good value for money . |David Ravenscroft

If you're dreaming of a place that's the perfect mix of 5-star surfing, snorkeling, diving, community, and laid-back vibes, Tavarua Island Resort is your place. The bures (Fijian bungalows) are cozy and rustic. With under 20 guest bures, you feel like you are on a private island vacation, especially if you come with a group of family and friends. We first visited Tavarua Island 15 years ago, and are still returning annually with the same families, most of which we met while on the island. In addition to being excited to see them each summer, we also look forward to seeing the fabulous staff who have known our children since they were babies. ||What I love most about Tavarua is how relaxed you feel here. Seriously, you don't have to worry about a thing. The food is buffet-style and has gotten even better with fresh bakery treats and at least three yummy salads every day. Put on a dress or clean shirt for dinner if you want, but it's super chill—you can come straight from surfing in your board shorts!||And let's talk about the activities—epic surfing, of course, but there's also scuba diving, snorkeling, paddleboarding, and cool trips to a disappearing sandbar. The resort has a fabulous masseuse and the massage space is outside in a private area overlooking the ocean. ||Tavarua Island Resort isn't just a place to stay; it's a vibe. Whether you're catching waves or just soaking up the island life, you'll leave feeling relaxed and filled with awesome memories. It's hands down one of the best spots for a getaway with laid-back charm.||A Tavarua vacation is tough to describe to people who haven't been here. Yes, it is pricey, but no, you are not at a pristine 5-star resort. You do not need fancy clothes or expensive jewelry here. Think high-end glamping but surf and water-related. I would also say this is not a honeymoon destination if you are not a surfer. The meals are communal, and while there are plenty of beautiful hideaway spots to have privacy as a couple, you might find yourself here with either a group of surfer dudes, a group of families with young kids, or a combination thereof. ||We are about to leave and can’t wait to start packing again next year. Vinaka to the entire staff and Tavarua family!

Let's start with the surfing experience - that is 5 star. No question. However, outside of surfing, this place is a rip off.||||1. The bures. What a joke. You pay a premium for this resort and you don't get a lock on your door. You are provided a safe that is smaller than a standard shoe box. Anyone can enter your private bure at anytime - they laugh at you when you ask how to lock the doors. The toilet seat was broken and when we asked for it to be fixed, we got blank stares and never a solution. The lights in our bure did not work, again, provided blank stares and a promise to fix it - we went 7 days with no lights. Finally, bugs are everywhere, as well as lizards living in the bure. I know its a small tropical island, but at another resort, in Fiji, the week before, we had no wildlife living in the bure with us. They climbed into our suitcases. It was disgusting.||2. Staff - surfing guides are so kind and awesome, The bartenders/wait staff: amazing. Everyone else? Abominable. The front desk team is a joke. I've been very privileged to travel the world, and experience actual 5 star hotels, where staff cannot do enough for you, provide a welcoming experience, etc. This place? Unless youre a 10 time repeat customer, you are treated second class. They will stare at you blankly when you ask for something (broken toilet seat, lights, etc). and tell you there's nothing they can do or promise someone will help and they never do. I think this is the worst experience I've ever had with a resort anywhere in the world. Beware.||3. The spa was absolutely incredible!! This was the highlight. So kind, right on the beach and so peaceful.||4. Beach toys: the staff was hit or miss. Sometimes they were super friendly and helpful. Most times they watched you drag heavy equipment 100s of yards and laughed at you while you struggled. Super helpful/impressive/five star experience. We stayed at another island resort and they couldn't do enough for us. Not on Tavarua.||5. I think the thing that I am the most upset at? They ruined all of our suitcase wheels. Rather than use the dolly's that were at the guest arrival area, they dragged our suitcases across the island to the bure across volcanic rocks and now my wheels are all destroyed. They said it wasn't their fault - again true class out of the employees here.||||All in all - if all you care about is world class surfind and you truly do not care about a resort experience, kind staff or accomodations being clean/working - then you'll like it here. If you're looking for a hybrid of both or travelign with a non-surfer, I would highly suggest looking elsewhere. This was not worth the money they charge for the abysmal customer service and accomodations.

Warm staff, incredible ample food, phenomenal waves, world-class snorkeling, idyllic setting. If you love the water, even if you don't surf, this place MUST be on your bucket list! We love it so much, we've been 4 times now as of 2020 and have invited many of our closest friends to join us. I type this in the airport as we head home (sadly) amidst the coronavirus crisis, but I'm already counting the days until our 2021 trip! Thanks Tavarua and the AMAZING WONDERFUL staff that makes everyone feel so special!

I can’t think of a more beautiful or happy place on the planet to spend a family vacation. The natural surroundings, people, and surf are amazing! There are so many different things to see when visiting the island of Tavarua in Fiji. There is an incredible variety of ocean life- turtles, whales, dolphins, sea snakes, fish, and stunning coral formations. The Fijians and the management are truly the nicest, friendliest people you will ever meet. The tropical jungle and beaches are stunning. Perfect air and water temperature with enough wind to keep from getting too hot. The food is delicious and the is a large variety of different things to eat at every meal. There are many ocean related activists to keep most everyone happy. There is a number of world class surfing breaks within a short distance of the island, 1 or 2 within paddling range. The snorkeling is amazing with some of the clearest water and colorful coral. The island and Fijian government is doing a great job of protecting the reef and giant blue lipped clams. And endeavor that will help preserve these natural treasures for hopefully many generations to come. There are many other ocean activities to do on the island such as paddle boarding, swimming, kite boarding, tennis, ping pong, lounging by the pool, or wandering the shore looking for shells. Also there is world class fishing just offshore where you can possibly catch the fish of a lifetime. There is truly something for everyone on the magical heart shaped island of Tavarua!

As a non-surfer married to someone that surfed the whole time I was there I wasn't sure how I'd enjoy the island. I LOVED it! I had not one complaint and there was SO much for me to do, or choose not to do while there. The food was best ever, the staff was best ever, the setup of the Bures is perfect. Everything about this island is perfection. 1 week was not enough and I wish I could have extended it. I hope to be back!!

I could make this review pages long because of the passion I feel for Tavarua! I have been to many countries and never in my life have I experienced something quite like this! The fact that it was "all inclusive" meant that I didn't have to stress about where to eat or what to do so I could optimize every moment of every day. World class surf, incredible snorkeling, fishing, kind staff and guests, and five-star food was at my disposal amongst other major attractions. Tavarua is perfect for family, couples, friends, or even a solo trip and absolutely worth every penny! I promise it will be the trip of a lifetime!
