If you're dreaming of a place that's the perfect mix of 5-star surfing, snorkeling, diving, community, and laid-back vibes, Tavarua Island Resort is your place. The bures (Fijian bungalows) are cozy and rustic. With under 20 guest bures, you feel like you are on a private island vacation, especially if you come with a group of family and friends. We first visited Tavarua Island 15 years ago, and are still returning annually with the same families, most of which we met while on the island. In addition to being excited to see them each summer, we also look forward to seeing the fabulous staff who have known our children since they were babies. ||What I love most about Tavarua is how relaxed you feel here. Seriously, you don't have to worry about a thing. The food is buffet-style and has gotten even better with fresh bakery treats and at least three yummy salads every day. Put on a dress or clean shirt for dinner if you want, but it's super chill—you can come straight from surfing in your board shorts!||And let's talk about the activities—epic surfing, of course, but there's also scuba diving, snorkeling, paddleboarding, and cool trips to a disappearing sandbar. The resort has a fabulous masseuse and the massage space is outside in a private area overlooking the ocean. ||Tavarua Island Resort isn't just a place to stay; it's a vibe. Whether you're catching waves or just soaking up the island life, you'll leave feeling relaxed and filled with awesome memories. It's hands down one of the best spots for a getaway with laid-back charm.||A Tavarua vacation is tough to describe to people who haven't been here. Yes, it is pricey, but no, you are not at a pristine 5-star resort. You do not need fancy clothes or expensive jewelry here. Think high-end glamping but surf and water-related. I would also say this is not a honeymoon destination if you are not a surfer. The meals are communal, and while there are plenty of beautiful hideaway spots to have privacy as a couple, you might find yourself here with either a group of surfer dudes, a group of families with young kids, or a combination thereof. ||We are about to leave and can’t wait to start packing again next year. Vinaka to the entire staff and Tavarua family!
