This Gorgeous Lake Town Has the Highest Outdoor Elevator in Europe — and It Leads to Fondue, Alpine Cows, and Hiking Trails With Water Views
"A small restaurant at the top of the Hammetschwand Lift serving Swiss chalet classics such as rösti and fondue, with a large outdoor patio and views of grazing cows." - Madeline Weinfield
A nice place to visit. The Tavern itself is a basic place to stay with few amenities and thus leaves a bit of an overpriced impression. However, the location is beautiful and stunning.
Unfortunately, there’s no room service and check in as well as breakfast are within the Waldhotel.
We found that most staff are very friendly and service oriented.
Paying 40.- CHF for car parking is definitely too expensive and leaves question marks…

This review pertains to the Taverne 1879 restaurant, not the hotel/resort.
The simple advice is: don’t go unless your life depends on it. The food is bad, portions are tiny and the prices resemble those of Michelin star restaurants.
We had to eat three main courses just to get normally full (this has never happened before). One of those dishes was a lentil stew with sausages: 30 franks for what was obviously a powdered soup with a frozen garden vegetable mix (maybe 2 franks in a local supermarket) with the cheapest sausages you can find in a supermarket - which had not even been heated properly but were served lukewarm.
It is beyond comprehension why the restaurant rips customers off like that.
An important upside: the front-of-house service personnel were super lovely and did an awesome job.

We just had lunch after a small hike to Hametschwand. Two of us ordered a schnitzel. It was an absolute disappointment, why even call this rectanglular piece of cheese? sausage a schnitzel?? It is as though the thing was created by an AI which has never seen a schnitzel, but has read a couple of bad descriptions of it.
The service was weird too: when asked about the dish of the day the waiter literally said “it’s something something bird” O_o
My drink (Apfelwein) arrived when I was almost finished with food.

The hotel is really nice. The room is very comfortable, the bed amazing... very clean. It’s just a little bit confusing to do check in on another location and hard to find. Luckily the staff is really nice and very helpful.
The restaurant is very expensive. The food and service are really good. But is overpriced. We had as good food and service in other locations nearby spending much less. You will pay the price just for being in the resort area.

This is a lovely resort perched high above Lake Lucerne with fabulous views of the lake and the mountains. A variety of hotels and restaurants make it special. The down side is that they are not well coordinated. Staying at the Taverne, the least expensive … charming... but clearly the stepchild of the group. The arrival by funicular is fun and the registration there at the Burgenstock and lakeview restaurant is impressive. Restaurants I tried were excellent and good value. Service in restaurants first rate. Excellent spa treatment but overall spa attitude needs work.||this is a concept that has great potential. I hope they work out the kinks

We had the two main course (Swiss). Good quality vs price. Local decoration, with a really nice view. You can also order Swiss fondue. The wine list is limited. Around 40-45CHF p.p ||Service and hospitality is good

Great view , good service but one of the worst places one would stop to eat . On 18.8.19 I had their standard menu , the meatballs and vegetables were not completely cooked and yet for this and a mineral water they charged Fr 36. In due course of the day I had to run a few times to the restrooms around Buergenstock due to this event.I am 100% healthy and sportive and don't have health problems nor issue with my stomach .

Classic swiss restaurant more than 100 years on the place furnished with vintage wooden chalet furniture. Less than 5 minutes walk from Burgenstock Alpina resort and SPA. ||We tried Salad "Taverne", main course from mushrooms and grated potatoes & for desert ||"Meringue Gruyere". All good. Nice local cuisine. Not expensive. Nice service.
