Taverne Saint-Géry

This place is truly a gem — a cozy family-run restaurant in the Belgian countryside with an excellent beer selection. The chef, Christophe, is incredibly talented, and the food is absolutely delicious. I first visited this restaurant seven years ago, back when I used to live in Belgium. Now living in the Netherlands, I came back, and I’m happy to say the food is still just as amazing. The place is always packed with locals, which says a lot about the quality. Christophe even came over to chat with us — he was genuinely friendly and welcoming. A real hidden treasure worth revisiting. Reserve in advance or you probably won’t find a table. Very important: Pet Friendly, what is always a plus.

The food, the decor, the service, the beer (oh, the beer!); if you don't have a wonderful time here I'm not sure how to explain it. Perhaps it's because you're aren't drinking Moinette like a sensible person (or perhaps you're not drinking enough!). We speak hardly a link of French, but it wasn't an issue at all for the incredibly gracious proprietor, who also accommodated my wife's food allergy without blinking. Truly an excellent experience, and a visit to Leuze, Aubechies, or Ath (and the local sites; don't miss Dupont) is well rounded by a lunch, dinner, or beer at the Taverne. Don't miss it!
