Walking up the stone stairs into the converted officer's home took our breath away - thinking of the history of that 160 year old home. Then we entered the main level and saw the spectacular sitting and breakfast rooms with the combination of classical features and whimsical colours and we were once again speechless. But the final reveal up the stairs to our top floor room was magical! Our room was huge and so well appointed, with a large balcony just outside the door. We slept with the windows wide open and the cool air had us sleeping for hours. The hotel was spotless and the staff was so kind and friendly. The breakfasts was perfect and we were able to sit inside or out to enjoy it. On our last day we had an early flight so Philomena had our fridge filled with yogurt and fruit so we could eat before we went to the airport. She also set us up with towels and an umbrella for our beach day. Her dinner suggestion for O Castelo restaurant was wonderful but get there before its 7 pm opening or make a reservation as it is small and fills up. The food is well worth it! We wandered around everywhere and loved the small town feel. The hospitality at Tavira House was wonderful. Philomena and her team were perfect hosts and we could not have been more happy with our choice of a hotel - Tavira House was perfect!

A lovely boutique hotel only a few minutes walk from the centre of town. Perfect location on a quiet street with on street parking if you’re lucky enough to find a spot! Lovely welcome on arrival. Nicely restored roof top and communal areas. Very quiet (we were on the ground floor at the front) and perfectly adequate AC. Lovely breakfasts and highly recommended! The Honesty Bar worked well! The bedroom was a bit disappointing … very sparse with no art work to jazz it up a bit and provide a bit of interest. Towels and linen were good quality, great shower and a proper hairdryer! However, I can only give 4 out of 5 as the bed and pillows weren’t at all comfortable. The bed was far too hard, no mattress topper could ever compensate unfortunately. I had backache on the day we left and OH had a stiff neck for 5 days! If you can’t get a good nights sleep it does dampen the experience I’m afraid to say!

We enjoyed a wonderful stay atTavira House Hotel. A beautiful place that is delightfully decorated and furnished. Wonderful hospitality from Filomena Joshi and the team. Breakfast was continental and consistantly good . Close to all local amenities and sites this is a place worth a stay. We had the suite ( geranium ) and loved the fact you can walk out directly onto the terrace. 5*

We stayed for two nights in early September and had a great stay. The check in was simple and the guys were really welcoming! Everything is planned so your stay is easy! Beds were comfy. Rooms had a fridge and a good sized bathroom. The sun roof was fabulous for some evening drinks or daytime relaxing. Breakfast was excellent. Coffee, juice, croissant, yoghurt and fruit. Really good value. Would stay again. The hosts were as helpful as you could I ever wish for We only have the rooms 4/5 as when in the room it's just a room. No where to sit etc like a balcony which would have given it a 5 even though there was outside space. It's just think you rid the building. There seemed to be a dip pool that's no longer in use too. That would have been brilliant if it was in use as the weather was hot!

We cannot say enough about this very special place. This was our first trip to Portugal and we came to Tavira House on the recommendation of friends who had stayed here previously. The building itself is a historic landmark that Carrie and Terry (the owners) brought back to life! The building used to hold parties and has a very special historical ballroom that has been converted to a lovely lounge and seating area with an “honor” bar for guests. This boutique hotel has 9 rooms so we were able to meet many of the guests at breakfast or in the lounge area. It was a treat to share travel stories and experiences. The on-site staff is amazing and the on-site manager, Filamina, goes above and beyond. We were greeted with a welcome drink and that set the tone for the rest of our stay. It was very warm in Tavira while we were there, but the hotel stayed nice and cool with a lovely breeze. We didn’t use our air conditioner as the breeze kept our room very comfortable for sleeping. The roof top patio is wonderful in the evening too. The entire place is very clean and cared for. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer! We hope to come back very soon!

It is a very characteristic building with a nice room, without any complaint. The people of the hotel were very kind and helpful. The breakfast was nice and served personally instead of a buffet. There is sunroof and a lounge with a nice bar. The hotel is not far from the city center on walking distance of almost everything you should want to see in Tavira.

Definitely worth a stay. The hotel is close to the centre and is very comfortable. The people (Philomena and Joshi) are very welcoming and you will be given first class service. A great recommendation.

In my 25 years of traveling employed by American Express, I have yet to be WOWED like I was at the Tavira House in the historic Portuguese town of Tavira. Both elegant and casual it is a gem with authentic personalized service not like the cookie cutter big chain 5 star hotels. Filomena greets you with a kiss and possibly the best breakfast I've had in Portugal. They could be charging twice as much and it would still be a bargain. Loved everything about it!
