Taylor’s Cellar Tour and Port Tasting was truly the most complete and amazing tour I’ve ever done. It was incredibly informative from start to finish. The audio guide was excellent — easy to use, very clear, and packed with detailed, well-structured information that made the entire experience even more enriching. Everyone we encountered was welcoming, professional, and passionate about what they do, which made us feel genuinely appreciated as guests. The experience ended with the best port tasting, guided by the amazing José Machado. He spent nearly 20 minutes with us, explaining everything in depth and patiently answering all our questions. His knowledge and enthusiasm made the tasting unforgettable. To top it all off, the shop is fantastic, offering an incredible selection of port wines — and of course, we happily brought some home with us. An outstanding experience from beginning to end. Highly recommended!

The property is stunning, the tour was very informative. Downside is that the tour was very detailed and very long. Also, you cannot upgrade the tasting that you receive rest the tour against an extra, so you are stuck with the pre-different options, which is pretty basic. Divine to take on top are quite expensive compared to packages I would recommend to go

We enjoyed visiting this wine cellar and recommend this place to other visitors. The tour is informative and shares context on the wine making process and some history of the founders of this cellar. You get the chance to pass by some real big barrels which was cool. The highlight of the tour was the tasting. You taste the wines in the rooftop garden and if you go to the balcony, you will have a nice view of porto. There is a shop that you can purchase wines. The price was fair for the experience (~€25).

Visiting Taylor’s Port Cellars in Porto is an experience every wine lover should have. The moment you arrive, you can feel the history and tradition that make this place so iconic. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with charming pathways, scenic terraces, and stunning views overlooking Porto and the Douro River. The self-guided tour is very well organized and informative, offering a clear look into the process of port wine production and the rich heritage behind Taylor’s. The cellars themselves are impressive — rows of massive barrels and old stone walls create a unique atmosphere that feels both historic and authentic. The tasting at the end is a highlight. Taylor’s offers a generous selection of ports, each with its own character and depth. Whether you’re new to port wine or already a fan, it’s easy to find something you’ll love. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to answer questions or offer recommendations. Overall, Taylor’s delivers a polished, memorable experience that combines education, history, and great wine. If you’re visiting Vila Nova de Gaia, this is absolutely one of the top port houses to explore. Highly recommended!

This is one of the oldest wine cellars to visit. Apart from the excellent location, offering panoramic views of Porto, they have awesome selection of wines. We spend roughly 2 to 3 hours here just looking over and testing wines and enjoying our time here. They essentially have a wine garden. I highly recommend this place and suggest not to be missed during your visit to Porto.

Booked spontaneously (about 30 minutes before the start) and everything still worked out quickly and smoothly. The audio tour is really well done—easy to use, clear to understand, and also available in German. We learned a lot about Port wine and got a great insight into Taylor’s history and passion (at times it’s a bit enthusiastically told, but overall very engaging). It took us around 60 minutes, and on a hot day it’s a very welcome cool break. The tasting afterwards was excellent as well: friendly staff, not pushy at all, and the explanations in English were easy to follow. We also had a small bite to eat—great value for money and overall very fair prices. The shop is well stocked too, with some unique and unusual products. Highly recommended—5 stars!

One of the historical places to show you where and how Port wine is made. A very nice experience. Together with the wine testing you will spend close to 2 hours inside Taylor's Port.

1) I liked the port wine. 2) If you visit, I think the tour including a tasting is a better deal than just the tasting, with tasting sets starting at 22 EUR. 3) Be aware that while the garden is nice, you won’t have much of a view of Porto. 4) Stay away from the bread basket — at 8 EUR for six tiny pieces of mediocre bread, I thought this was a real rip-off that left a bitter taste on the whole experience

What better way to spend a rainy day than touring Taylor's and tasting some port wine?! We spent the majority of the day at the WOW museum and walked over to Taylor's afterward. They have a great variety of port wine and we ordered a tasting with chocolate pairing. At a whopping 49 euro, we got 1 tasting flight and some tiny chocolates. At that price, we decided to share taking tiny sips. It was an experience and the wines are delicious!

Only experienced drinking their ports in their garden terrace area and purchased some signature port glasses in their wine store which is what is reflected in this review. The garden area is very tranquil and relaxing but does not have the views of Porto. A few chickens and Peacocks running around in the dining area adding a certain degree of character/uniqueness to the experience and makes for some fun photo opportunities. Relative to the ports, Taylor is a premium Port producer where you can absolutely get great ports which will come at a premium price and lower classes of Port that are more value priced. On this visit it was a hot day and I opted for the fine white at 4 Euros which wad quite tasty. Relative to the port glasses I bought I have been collecting sets of these from the various wineries I have visited on this trip where to date these are definitely the best quality set I have purchased on this trip with their signature red emblem. Definitely pleased with this purchase. Overall had a good experience here and next time will have to set aside some time to do the tour and get a better appreciation of what the Taylor winery has to offer.

Visiting one of the many wineries to try port wine is a must-try activity in Porto. My family and I did the tour which also comes with a complimentary tasting. The tour is a self-guided tour with a hand-held audio machine (like a phone). Here, I learned about the British influence on Portuguese wine history, information on the Duoro valley, and the vinho verde region that is special to Portugal. There is also a HUGE barrel of win in the storage room which was a sight to see. For the tasting, they give you a variety of reds and whites to try. They are port wines so they are on the sweeter side, but the whites were a little drier and I found myself liking those. They have both inside seating and a little courtyard area to enjoy a nice afternoon trying different wines.

We witnessed a truly unfortunate and upsetting event at Taylor's. We went for a tasting and food, the gardens are lovely and part of what makes them lovely are two peacocks that wander around the area. Many people were taking pictures of the peacocks and enjoying the afternoon until we witnessed one of the waiters forcefully hit one of the peacocks with a hard seat pillow not once but three times all because the peacock pecked at his shoe. It was terrible! When I told the waiter to stop hitting the bird he said I should contact the CEO and complain to him. Below is a picture of the waiter and a picture of the beautiful peacock. He and any establishment that allows this behavior from their employees should be ashamed!

Such a fun spot we went to! We did the port wine tour here and it came with a tasting at the end of the tour. I learned so much about port wine during the tour so it was fun and worth it! We got to learn about the history, how port wine was made and the different types of ports. I was pregnant when I went so I was unable to taste the port wine at the end of our tour. However, my husband bought couple of bottles and I was able to try them after I gave birth. The port was so good! Every bottle that I had was amazing! We even went to the wine store back home to get more!

OK this is now my new favorite wine ever! I love the port from Taylor's! It's so good! When you come here, they have a tasting room where you can also have small bites, but there is also a tour of the winery which I highly recommend. I've never seen so many barrels of wine in my life. And these were huge barrels! Tour is very interesting. Service was just OK. At the ticket desk they were kind of rude, but then in a tasting room the waiters were excellent, so I guess it just depends on where you are at. Ambience is so cool, the tasting room is indoors and outdoors with very pretty outdoor garden! If you are in Puerto, this is a must stop!

Came here as a Rick Steve's recommendation and it was everything. We did not have time for a whole tour so we went to the sit down area (for a tasting), with an amazing view, and had the "Vintages Clássicos Taylor's" experience (€90). My favorite was the 1994 Vintage port and the 2007 vintage port. The 2009 is a bit more strong on the flavors, the 2003 was light but had still a kick, the 1985 was more subtle but still has a kick. I am more into the subtle without a kick flavors, hence why 1994 and 2007 are my faves. To eat, we had the cheese plate which comes with the most delicious Azeitão cheese (best cheese I've ever had!) with jam and crackers. There is an abundance of seating area but definitely go outside, all the way to the back for the most amazing views

My favorite port from my local liquor store. Taylor's Port is on the shelf at most places and of course while in Porto, this was one of my must visit place. We hiked and finally made it to Taylor's Port. As we entered and walked through the place, they offer unguided tours and a drink at the end of the tour. We skipped it and decided to go straight to the tasting area to try some premium port, ones that you can't really find in the US or you would end up paying a hefty price. We decided to splurge and pair it with chocolate and amazingly to find that it was the perfect pair. The intensity of the chocolate paired with the port changed our palette with each sip. This was truly an experience, and the place is beautiful to just sit , relax , and admire the view.

I came to Taylor's Port to check out how the famous Port wine is made as well as to try some of the wine! After buying a 15 euro ticket, you are given a speaker-type thing and a map which allows you to have your own self-guided audio tour. This is great for people who prefer to take their own time during tours and it also allows you to listen to as much of the information as you'd like. At the end of the tour, you go into the tasting room that also has a gift shop attached where you can buy their Port wine. They provide a small glass to taste the red and the white wine. They also have other wines and snacks to order as well. It was an interesting experience, especially if you'd like to learn about how the wine is made and see how they store it. There is also a restaurant across from the wine tour side that is more upscale but don't be intimidated. The staff is super friendly and the food is delicious! The view from the restaurant is also beautiful since it's right next to the water.

I loved everything about this place. The staff was genuinely kind and helpful, the restaurant was fantastic with amazing views and the port tasting was so much fun and delicious. If you are in Porto, Taylor's is a must-do!

What an exciting opportunity to visit one of the oldest and largest Port Wine houses that was founded 1692 in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. This partnership group owns the brands of Fonseca, Fonseca-Guimaraens, Taylor, Krohn and Croft. Thanks to our Tauck tour director, we had the opportunity to have a private tour, Port tasting and a catered dinner at Taylor location off the Douro River. The tour was educational and quite incredible to walk through the many barrels of port in their large storage warehouse. The evening was just wonderful and the Port Wine was fabulous. What I found most interesting is how long they keep some of the wine in the barrels and the type of barrels they utilize. I was very fortunate to have this wonderful opportunity to experience an evening at Taylor Port Wines.

Came here in October after dining at the Yeatman. They are literally across the street from the Yeatman! Went straight to the tasting room since we did not have time for grand tour of their caves. Ordered 2 glasses of port to taste: 1) Vintage Port 2009 2) 20 year Tawny Port Both were refreshing & delicious. Would recommend this place!

Self guided audio tour was good but not as nice as the guided tours you get at other Port houses. The tasting afterwards was fine but a bit stingy.

There are a lot of wineries in the area, but we decided to visit Taylor's because some reviews said they had peacocks roaming around...and it was true! We saw a male and female peacock, plus two of her babies, and even a rooster just lounging. The winery itself was beautiful too, with manicured hedges and a peaceful courtyard where we got a glass of tawny Port, some yummy egg tarts, and a glass of (very sweet) fresh grape juice, for a reasonable 14 euros. The server was friendly and knowledgeable about the different ports and food pairings. Although I don't love to drink, the port was delicious and rich. Highly recommend!

I liked that Taylor's is at the top of the hill. Start there and taste your way down. Tours aren't cheap, but they are self guided, which is nice from a timing perspective. My husband's audio guide switched to German midway through his tour. Oops, not a good design. However, I had a good experience. I learned a lot about the production of Port wine and a bit about Taylor's. The tasting area is nice, especially if you can get a table outdoors. The view from the restaurant is beautiful, but there's no view from the tasting areas. The complimentary tasting is basic. More tastings will cost more, but everything is of good quality here.

Fantastic facility. Beautiful ports. I drank a 1968 single vineyard. Amazing. Buying 6 bottles. Amazing. Fun experience.

Great place to do a tour and try some port! The tour is a self guided audio tour, so you can go at your own pace. Some of the audio can be long, but the beauty is you can pick and choose how much of it you want to listen to. It focuses both on the history of the company as well as how port is made. Both of which are fascinating stories. It's interesting to take a tour from one of the larger companies and compare it to a smaller one. At the end you get to do a small tasting. Some wineries give you three, but you only get two here. A white and a ruby. I normal don't like white wines but I enjoyed the white port. The garden area is really cute and relaxing as well.

We visited a bunch of Port houses while in Porto and this was my favorite. We opted out of the tour since all the port houses here seem somewhat similar and I came in with a decent amount of knowledge about port. Instead we headed straight to the tasting room. It is possible to do port tastings here independently of the tours they offer. I like this option because it allows you to spend your money where it really counts: on the port itself. Taylor's is known for their quality so come here if you're looking for some ports that are a little nicer. We tried the Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port 2004 and the 20 Year Old Tawny Port. Both were excellent. The service was also top notch and was the best that we received at any of the port houses. The staff was very professional and added to the air of elitism. However, they were not pompous and were very friendly. They greeted us warmly and helped explain everything to us since we were somewhat inexperienced with port. They also provide a book explaining the history of Taylor at well as more general information on port. Since we did not take a tour of any sort here, the information in the book was a nice way to fill in some missing gaps in our knowledge. In terms of the quality of the port itself and the tasting experience, this was my favorite port house in Gaia.

Great port visit at the top of the hill! Taylor's Port provided a fantastic experience where we were able to enjoy a scenic overlook, sit outside and take in the beautiful courtyard weather (they have plenty of indoor seating as well), and enjoy some snacks (the cheese plate and ham plates were very good). The port was good (although we preferred other port places), and prices were reasonable. Service was fantastic as the staff was very attentive, friendly, and provided great recommendations. More than anything, go to Taylor's Port for the view. In the evening you can get an absolutely stunning view of the sun setting over the courtyard and across the river. The picturesque courtyard also was relaxing and had roosters roaming around it, which added to the ambiance. Overall, a great visit that was recommended by locals!

As I understand it, Taylor's Port is the last of the original English port companies to remain family owned and considered one of the nicer port cellars amidst a sea of others in Gaia. The grounds are serene and the cellar itself is pretty cool. The staff ranged from really nice to a tad rude. The ports were not too shabby. I tried their 20 year, 30 year, and 40 year old tawny ports. All were excellent and got deeper and more complex the older they were, as you'd expect. I must admit, I was conflicted about stopping by a port cellar while in town. Don't get me wrong, I love port and pretty much any alcohol type tastings, but my preferred style of travel is to immerse myself into the local culture as much as possible and do the types of things that locals do. No matter how many locals I spoke with, the consensus was clear, locals never go to the port cellars. Literally every Porto and Gaia native I talked to had never been to one and were proud of that fact. Part of the reason was very practical. They shared how they have port at home and see no reason to go to a cellar and pay more to get what they already have. I respect that. For those of us visiting, stopping by a port cellar can be appealing and fun. While Taylor's was far from the most memorable part of my visit, and everyone else there who wasn't staff was indeed a tourist, I was glad I checked it out. But for me, it's one of those things I've done and wouldn't need to do again. I'd much prefer having port at a local taberna or dinner get together in someone's home.

The wine tasting room is beautiful. Barrels turned into tables. Grape vines in the walkway to the building. A small garden with peacocks (sit outside in the garden or inside looking out at the garden). Trudging up the hill is a small price to pay. As for the port, meh. It's too bland. By appealing to everyone's tastes, it doesn't appeal to me at all.

This was my favorite tour in Porto. It was self paced and we did not encounter a line or a wait. I found that it had the most information. They also served LBV as part of the included sample. very nice selection, I will be buying more Taylor's port in the future.

4.5 Stars, First off I'm not a big wine drinker, however I had to when I was in Porto! I tried different wine's from different wineries while in Porto and out of the wines I tried Taylor was/is on top of my list. Their wine goes down the palate smooth and sweet w/out being over the top sweet, but of course it depends which one your drinking. Thanks Taylor!! And thanks Porto! The pic I posted is one I got to go and cracked it open today in Lagos!! Its an amazing wine! Highly reccomend a bottle of this!

I expected much more from Taylor's tour and was rather disappointed by it and the impersonal experience it creates. The "tour" is merely audio recordings as you walk through. Though the information is thorough, you are unable to ask questions and some segments seemed to go on to the point that we stopped our recording and went on without it. The tasting provided after was two small glasses. After these two tastes, we hoped to try more and were recommended to go through to the restaurant. The menu and interior looked beautiful and the deck has a great view. However, we were turned away as we did not have a reservation. Overall, for €15/each I wish we had done a different tour. Or perhaps skipped it and booked the restaurant alone instead.

Terrible service. We did the audio tour and tasting, and while the port was delicious, the service we received at the tasting was awful. People were rude and the whole team seemed unorganized making us wait 30 minutes before receiving our tasting, and even longer before we could order for ourselves. The attitude of the people working and the way they treated us completely ruined our experience. Do not recommend.

Taylor's Restaurant Eating here was a huge mistake. An absolute waste of time with terrible food and unbelievably atrocious service. The only nice thing was the beautiful setting but that want even enough to overcome the terrible, low quality food and an overall negative experience. The service was unbelievably awful and the food was barely edible. I got the duck rice which was dry, tasteless and plated as a heap of fried rice as you would expect from a low cost takeout restaurant. After a long drawn out service of many miscommunications and terrible food recommendations(could be that everything on the menu was bad because the only thing we enjoyed was the bread and olives that they started us with). Then we had to ask for the cheque three times and still didn't get it until we stood up walked inside from the terrance and asked for our bill. We missed the first part of our tour because of how long it took for them to print the bill. We walked straight to the register and told them we had to go to the tour and still didn't get the bill until the rest of my party stood up to leave. The whole meal was very unpleasant, our waiter was unbelievably rude, quality of service and food was completely abysmal. Take the tour in the cellar but do not eat lunch at their restaurant. It will be disappointing, tasteless and waste of your time.

Really cool self-guided wine tour. A wine tasting comes at the end in a rose garden that has peacocks and a rooster. Service was good and you feel like you are an an upscale place for a cheap price (15 euro for the tour plus 2 paired wines).

Not much to add here. The tour itself was 5 stars - amazing place to visit, and the audioguide was fascinating and high quality. A bit too much content, but hey, you can also stop/skip sections. Bring your own headphones to plug in, so you don't get arm soreness! However, the price of the tour is steep at 12 euros per person! I would say it was worth maybe up to 10 euros. You do get two port wine "tastings" but you can't choose - they are the cheapest ones on the menu - and they give you barely a quarter of a glass.

This was by far the best place to go tasting Port in Gaia. The tasting area was in a big room with lots of bartenders (or do you call them Port-tenders)? There is also a big outdoor area for walking around and enjoying port on a lawn. And around the corner there was seating for what appeared to be a restaurant that overlooked the Douro and Porto. The Port here was excellent. I started with the Chip Dry white and it was definitely a dry and crisp white port. And quite a deal at €1 per glass. However, I then splurged quite a bit and had a 50-year old single harvest. That one cost €21 per glass and was the best Port I tasted during my visit. It was so incredibly deep and rich. I savored every last sip of it.

I love their product and they were on my list of stops in Porto. The bar has a fantastic 40 year old port. There is also a crazy old port that you can taste the is a 100 euro a glass. It is said Winston Churchill had a pipette of it drawn from the barrel. The tour is cool and the tasting area inside (old library) and out (pretty garden) is very nice. The staff was accommodating and cheerful. A little crowded in the high season, but a must do stop when you visit.

Wonderful place to get a tasting. You really get the full experience here - a self-guided tour of the cellars, history of their vineyards, and a beautiful room at the end to taste the incredible ports. In addition to the tastings, we ordered a 30-year tawny (highly highly highly recommended) and a cheese plate + truffles. I loved that this place thought about the entire experience - definitely recommend this place for a port visit! Extra tip, stop by The Yeatman across the street for another drink and the most incredible view of Porto!

Self-guided tour and you get to taste 2 port wines at the end. They recommend at least an hour to get through the tour. Further away from the river and you have to hike up a hill to get there. You also get a souvenir booklet which gives you even more information about port wines in general, which I found incredibly useful when trying to pick out a wine to bring home with me. I was starving and got their meat selection board which was fine. Preferred their port wines over Sandeman's.

Not worth the price. Charged 15€ for tour with malfunctioning audio device and lower end port wine. Would not recommend.

Taylor's was the second port room we visited on our tour, and while we liked the other port room more (Croft) there were aspects of Taylor's that we appreciated. Taylor's is large and has a bit of a corporate feel. The self-guided tour was extremely long and detailed, but the self-guided nature means you can skip ahead if you aren't interested. It was definitely a comprehensive overview of the port making process and felt like a museum dedicated to the trade. I'd recommend starting at Taylor's to get the foundational knowledge, then move to some of the other tasting rooms for a less formal experience. For a self-guided tour the price seemed a little steep (I think it was 12€ per person) but it included a tasting at the end. Overall I'm glad I went for the educational aspect, but disappointed in the pretentious and stuffy vibe. If you do visit Taylor's I'd recommend pairing it with Croft or another tasting room to experience a less corporate establishment.

Big name Port Winery. None of the grapes are grown here at Taylors like all the other Winerys in the local area. They only focus on mixing the wines in large or small wooden barrels based on type to get the final product. The tour is 5 euros with a small sample of 3 of their wines; blanco, tawny, tinto. There is wifi in the main lobby, the password can be found on their menu. There is a nice backyard where you can sit around and sip on your Ports. There was a Peacock with little chicks walking around the backyard as well. The baby peacocks were too cute.

Very upscale looking. Very professional. Good service. Nice decor. When walking in, you are greeted by the staff. Very kind and friendly. I took the tour and tasting. Good tour. A little stiff but still good. The tastings were also all good. They provided a dry white, ruby, and tawney. There is an outdoor garden to have your tastings. Great concept. There's also a video you can watch if you want to learn more. Also in the building there are little displays to look at!! Very informative.

Don't eat here. The food was ok and the service was nice but it was very expensive. You are better off grabbing a drink at the Yeatman bar across the street. Cheap, there's entertainment, and the same great view (even better since they have a large outdoor terrace.

Excellent place to taste some Port. For Euro5 you get to taste 3 types of wine and get a 30 min short tour through the cellar. English tours every hour until 5pm. Great ambiance, classy interior all in wood, very classy service, good knowledge delivery on tour. An overall very pleasant experience.

Taylor's is polished and slick but the audio tour is a bit dull. I'd recommend skipping the tour and going straight to the tastings!

Visited last week for my 20th anniversary. Wife was so excited because of their reputation. Sat at the tasting area for 30 minutes. Made several attempts to get the servers attention without success. We tried to bring our concerns to someone in charge but they were indifferent to our situation. Guess they don't like people from the states.

Really rude staff. Not worth the time it takes to get there. I recommend Offley instead. It is just around the corner and much more pleasant!
