Lovely place, but customer service is really lacking. With every member of staff I interacted with at Taymouth, it was almost like you were a burden to them by being there.
We stayed off-site this time (because the hotel didn’t accept one-night stays, which is fair enough). It was my birthday, so we booked the hotbox spa and decided to eat at the restaurant beforehand. We turned up at the restaurant without a booking — our mistake — but we didn’t expect it to be busy on a Thursday night. The restaurant was fairly empty, with two large tables occupied and a couple of smaller ones, but nowhere near full.
When we asked for a table, we were told that since we didn’t have a booking, they could only fit us in an hour later. Fair enough. We then asked if we could at least sit inside and have some drinks while we waited, but were told no. We asked if we could order food as takeaway and sit by the fire outside, but again, no — takeaway was strictly for taking away, not for eating on site.
Instead, we were essentially told to wait outside in the rain for an hour until our slot. This felt unnecessarily unwelcoming, especially given that the restaurant wasn’t full and we were paying guests on the property (through the spa booking). A little more flexibility or hospitality would have gone a long way, but instead it left us starting the evening and my birthday on a very disappointing note.
