"A former Scots Baronial mansion, Taypark House was built in 1863 on serene garden grounds. The panoramic views across the Dundee Botanic Garden remain, but now the property also features 14 individually designed rooms, many with exposed stone walls, tartan armchairs, and freestanding bath tubs. The original library and drawing room have become an impressive café and restaurant, serving fresh fare, gourmet sandwiches, and homemade baked goods, while the old dining room functions as a fashionable gin bar, complete with craft cocktails and a roaring log fire. Just a mile outside the city, Taypark House offers the quiet of the countryside within walking distance of downtown. Thanks to its gorgeous gardens, it’s also a popular spot for weddings year-round."

3 Best Day Trips From Edinburgh | Condé Nast Traveler

"A stone-walled Baronial mansion set in its own flourishing gardens, today's Taypark House is a whisper of its late-19th-century beginnings as a jute baron’s estate. The 14-room boutique hotel, located in the affluent West End of Dundee, recently underwent a gentle restoration, maintaining a Victorian-era sensibility while ushering in modern touches. A log-burning stove warms the communal lounge, where you’ll snug into leather tub chairs or perch up at the larch timber-made Gin Bar for an effervescent swill of G&T." - Danielle Bernabe

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had an absolute ball at Taypark House yesterday evening! Everything was superb from start to finish. The meals were delicious, service was speedy and perfectly timed, and the manager and team couldn’t have been more helpful – nothing was too much trouble. The grounds are absolutely stunning and offered plenty of space for ceilidh dancing with a live band, which really made the evening feel special. We’d definitely love to come back again and would wholeheartedly recommend Taypark House to anyone planning a celebration. Thank you for a wonderful night!

Beautiful property but very disappointing stay Taypark House truly is a stunning property — elegant, grand, and straight out of a fairytale. The beautiful country-style house, lovely gardens, and tasteful interiors instantly impressed us upon arrival. Our room was spacious, clean, and charming — everything we had hoped for. Unfortunately, our stay was heavily overshadowed by a private event happening on the night of our visit. I did receive an email beforehand stating there "may be some disturbance until 11:30 PM" — but what we experienced was far beyond a mild disturbance. It was a full-blown nightclub experience directly beneath our room, with loud music and shouting that went on until midnight, followed by the noise of staff cleaning up long after. The hotel bar was completely packed with party guests, making it impossible for us to even relax or enjoy a drink after a long day of driving. The most concerning part was that party-goers accidentally entered our room — completely unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one of this caliber. My son struggled to fall asleep with all the noise and chaos happening around us, making it a very stressful night. When I raised my concerns the next morning, I was simply reminded that they had "sent an email" — as if that excused the experience. Was I supposed to cancel my long-planned reservation because of a party I had no control over? Very disappointing customer service for such an otherwise beautiful property. Taypark House has so much potential, but sadly, they fell short on providing a peaceful, relaxing stay for their guests. I sincerely hope management considers improving how they handle private events alongside regular hotel guests in the future.

We booked Taypark House for a milestone birthday celebration on the recommendation of friends. One night’s dinner, B&B, or so we thought…..|Last week, I received an email from the hotel asking for confirmation that we were planning to have dinner on Monday evening, as they were trying to book a routine sprinkler system and gas safety check to fit around their guests. I replied in the affirmative and asked for a table for 7.30 pm. There was no reply from the hotel, but I wasn’t specially concerned. Roll on yesterday and our check in at 4.30 pm, when we were told that the hotel was not, in fact, serving meals in the evening. I pointed out that I had replied to their message last week and had had nothing back, but the young man on reception (James) didn’t seem to know anything about any correspondence. He also didn’t appear to know that we had booked for a special occasion, although this was made quite clear when the reservation was made - no chance of a free glass of fizz, or even a little card saying ‘Happy Birthday! As we don’t know Dundee very well, we asked James where he could recommend for a special meal on a Monday evening(!) and he suggested an Italian restaurant in the city centre. My husband asked if the hotel would be prepared to cover the cost of a taxi there and back and that was agreed. In the event, we got 2 complimentary drinks, taxis fares and enough money to cover a bottle of wine with our meal. The Italian restaurant (Don Michele) was very good, and we both enjoyed our meal, but sitting next to a family with 3 young children and a baby in a high chair wasn’t exactly the ambience I was hoping for for my special birthday meal (and our wedding anniversary)!|All of that apart, the hotel could potentially be very nice. I was a bit concerned, having seen several people writing reviews citing cleanliness as a major issue. We certainly didn’t find that: our room was lovely, the bathroom was huge (and very clean) and had a great shower, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The whole building, however, was freezing, including the dining room at breakfast this morning - people were having breakfast with jackets on! There was a strange, dispirited atmosphere about the place, and the public areas looked a bit tired.|We were really disappointed by the whole experience, and wouldn’t be inclined to go back. To give credit where it’s due, James did his best in a bad situation, and although we were both extremely annoyed, we appreciated that it wasn’t his fault.

This was a place which was a pleasure to visit and was very quirky. On returning back, despite being a nice place the charm had gone. West down and ordered our meals and the menu offered soup and sandwich, which in most restaurants is a special, however, despite being placed as a combo each item is separate, so be warned, it's not cheap £9 for a small bowl of soup and £12 for the sandwich... Got well stung there. After the main we asked if there were any cakes, as there used to be lots of home backing, but this was a no, only scones, despite another table having had afternoon tea with a variety of cakes, and when we enquired about that, we were told that they were not for sale. So we ordered tea and coffee, which arrived, no tea spoons and no sugar so we had to hunt the room for these. The table at this point was still not cleared of our mains so had to clear the table ourselves and by this time the only ones left in the restaurant... Numerous tables still cluttered with dishes. We also had a visitor, a pigeon was flapping about and bouncing off the windows before a customer got hands on and took it to the window, opened and set it free. A trip to the toilets proved interesting, no soap to wash hands, however, there was Listerine mouth wash, who goes to a public place and shares mouthwash, personally found this disgusting. There was also nail polish remover, but no cotton pads or wool to remove the polish. It wasn't until we were paying the bill that we noticed a desert menu, this was not offered to us at all, and having asked for cakes, you'd think this would have been promoted at this point. We then went outside to get some family snaps taken and there were empty glasses and bottles strewn about the place. We were so looking forward to this and it was so disappointing, and the chances of returning is zero.

We photographed a wedding at Taypark House last October, and it was such a joy. The venue’s mix of historic charm and modern style creates such a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The gardens in autumn were absolutely beautiful. Full of rich colour and just perfect for photos. The views over the River Tay and the nearby Botanic Gardens added even more magic to the day. The staff were so helpful and made everything run smoothly for the couple and for us as photographers. We’re excited to be coming back to photograph another wedding here this August and we honestly can’t wait!

We love our trips to the Taypark. We are always made to feel very welcome by the outstanding staff team. It is a lovely boutique hotel set in beautiful gardens - very quiet. Good parking. We’ve stayed in a number of different rooms and they all are unique, comfortable and many have stunning bathrooms. An excellent breakfast is available - great choice. We have also enjoyed evening meals in the restaurant and the food has always been good. |The hotel has a timeless elegance and is very comfortable. |Looking forward already to our next stay!

I don’t recommend you stay here especially if they book you into the outside ground floor room with disabled access. The large front window is right in front of the car park so everyone can see into the room therefore you have to close the blind. The window is continually open at the top, cannot be closed so you hear everything through the day and night. I was awake from 3:30am onwards! There is a small plug in radiator because as the window is open it gets cold. With the blinds pulled down and at least 4/5 lights not working, the room was very dark. It felt like you were inside a dungeon. No wardrobe to hang trs or a long skirt/dress or coat. Bathroom tiles floor needs a good clean but ultimately needs replacing as it’s very uneven and dirty. We were aware the room had disabled access but had no alternative mirror or sink. They were very low so we had to continually bend to use the mirror and sink. No body soap or hair conditioner, the bathroom only has 4 tiny bottles of hair shampoo. The bathroom large window had the bins or some kind of storage thing behind so no light coming in and unable to open the window. The water slowly went down the drain when showering so possibly blocked drain. The pillows didn’t have protection covers and they had stains on them. I asked to me moved to a different room but I was informed they were all booked. It really was one of the worst rooms I’ve stayed in. I informed the person at the desk when I left and all he did was write down about the lights. He offered no compensation.

I booked this place for my boyfriend’s birthday — a special night I put real effort into — and I deeply regret it. The moment we walked into the dome, I was mortified. It was absolutely disgusting. The walls were filthy, like they hadn’t been cleaned in months. The seats? Covered in stains and grime — honestly, I wouldn’t let my dog sit on them. I was so embarrassed, I wanted to walk out. I kept apologizing to my boyfriend for dragging him to this dump on his day. The whole setup felt lazy and neglected — like no one there actually cares about the experience they’re offering. Yes, the food and service were decent, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that we were basically eating in a dirty plastic bubble. Totally ruined what should’ve been a beautiful evening. I would never recommend this place to anyone looking for something even remotely special.

Yelp
I didn't know this was what Dundee needed, but it is. I came here with my sister-in-law for brunch and totally fell in love with it. It's a boutique hotel which I imagine is great to stay in. They also keep pretty busy serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to Dundonians. It's a beautiful example of the Scottish baronial style with a sympathetic update by the current owners. The ceilings inside are stunning, with roses all around the edges. I would love to wake up to that! The gardens are small but very attractive and quiet as the house is set back from the main road down a posh drive (with a groundsman raking the gravel at the end!). The outdoor seating looked lovely but too sunny for my ginger tinted sister-in-law. I had Eggs Benedict which was really tasty and I enjoyed every mouthful. It came in at a reasonable £5.50. My sister-in-law had a pain au chocolat with a white coffee, both of which she enjoyed. The lunch and dinner menus also looked very tempting. I liked the local suppliers map on the front. The dining room is decorated charmingly with floating teapots, an old set of scales for the tips and cute wallpaper with trees. The only thing I didn't love was 2 carefully distressed wooden boards with twee statements about hearts and home, I don't get why these are so popular right now! The service was very friendly and welcoming. Payment is at the door of the dining room, for brunch anyway. There's a drawing room with a bar across the way but sadly it was too early to sample from the Scottish gin menu. There's another rustic looking gin bar outside too which I'm sure would be lovely in the evening. In fact this would be the perfect place for a small wedding and I think I saw a small wedding bower outside, it was laid on the grass though. Another thing I liked was the vegetable vending machine outside with strawberries for £2 and a dozen eggs for £1.10. Potatoes and greens also spotted. I've never seen one of these before so I was intrigued. Anyway I loved it. I'll go back everytime I'm in Dundee hopefully.

Yelp
The property is beautiful, nicely restored, and clean. Staff is welcoming, very helpful and professional. The beds are very comfortable; the evening was quiet. Grounds are beautiful. Breakfast was tasty and fresh. Room rates were very reasonable.
