The Best Luaus in Maui That Everyone Should Experience | Condé Nast Traveler

"Located at the Wailea Beach Resort — Marriott, Maui, the Te Au Moana Luau is one of the more interactive and family-friendly celebrations on the island. Before the show and feast, guests can join in on traditional Hawaiian rituals, such as coconut-husking, lei-making, and tapa-crafting (making cloth out of trees and shrubs). The show itself is high-energy and thrilling—the fire-dancing is a highlight—and there are plenty of opportunities for audience participation, especially for the kids. Food-wise, you can expect traditional Hawaiian staples like pork lau lau (taro leaf-wrapped pork), pipi ko'ala (grilled beef), and chicken long rice, which are served buffet-style and accompanied by an open bar manned by delightfully heavy-handed bartenders. Though you'll have a blast in any case, it's worth splurging on the premium tickets: for just $18 more, you'll get first dibs on the buffet and front-row seats to the show."

Beyond spectacular! Loved every detail from the family style service to the optional professional photographer! We loved being able to chat with our table and have conversation without waiting in buffet lines a mile long. The endless drinks bar for kids and adults was phenomenal, kids love the Shirley temples and we’re going back all night. I didn’t realize when booking there was also a temporary tattoo station and more for the kids. Exceeded our expectations!

This was our third luau, and we felt the Te Au Moana had the best show and food we’ve ever experienced at one. We appreciated that this was not a buffet-style luau; the service was excellent. Our server ensured we had plenty of food throughout the evening. The venue is situated in a spectacular setting, with the ocean in the background, making it truly picturesque. We booked premium seats in the first or second row but ended up in the third row (the additional fee for the preferred seating was not refundable). Unfortunately, our view of the stage was blocked by people in front of us holding their phones above their heads to record the dances. This was very disappointing. This is why we are not giving the event 5 stars.

The Te Au Moana Luau at The Wailea Beach Marriott Resort in Maui was nothing short of breathtaking—a celebration of Hawaiian culture that left us in awe. From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in a beautiful atmosphere that showcased the rich traditions of the islands. The scenery was absolutely stunning, with the luau set against the backdrop of the sparkling Pacific Ocean and lush tropical gardens. Watching the sunset paint the sky in vibrant hues added to the magical ambiance, making the evening unforgettable. The food was an extraordinary feast that beautifully reflected Hawaiian cuisine. Each dish was crafted with care and authenticity, allowing us to savor the distinct flavors of the islands. From the savory kalua pork to the sweet haupia dessert, every bite was a culinary delight. The people were warm and welcoming, sharing their stories and traditions with genuine joy and passion. The performers and hosts made us feel like part of the ohana, or family, as they guided us through the evening's festivities. The show itself was mesmerizing. The dances, chants, and music told the stories of Maui and its people with elegance and emotion. The fire dance finale was particularly exhilarating, leaving the audience spellbound. Every detail—from the costumes to the choreography—was perfectly executed, showcasing the depth and beauty of Polynesian culture. Te Au Moana is not just a luau; it’s a journey through the heart of Hawaii. This extraordinary experience is a must for anyone visiting Maui, and we left with memories that will last a lifetime.

Really enjoyed the luau. Probably the best food we’ve ever had at a luau. We loved that this was not a buffet style luau. Desserts were meh at best. I didn’t like the lengthy walk from where I dropped off the car to where the luau was set up, no valet parking included which felt cheap given how expensive the luau itself was. Bar could not serve a pina colada or anything frozen at all apparently. I really wish they would figure out how to shade the area so you’re not roasting while watching the show and to prevent a poor experience in the rain. The show was great as were the performers and servers.

Such a fantastic experience for my wife and I on our Honeymoon! Beautiful venue, great entertainment, and even better food! The photographers were great too. Parking and walking in was a little confusing but not too much of a big deal.

My husband surprised me taking us there for my birthday dinner and it was breathtakingly beautiful. Out of all the luau's we have been to, this was the most beautiful one. We loved every minute here. The food was delicious and the show was magnificent. I loved all the activities they had for the kids before the show. The ambiance was out of this world. The fireworks at the end was such a nice ending to my amazing birthday. Forever grateful to my husband for pampering me.

Google
Great food and the show was really well done. Kalen was a great server. The chicken dish was fantastic and I need a recipe for the beef 'jerky' salad.

Google
Had a great time! The luau is pricey, but it is a dinner theater, and there are a lot of participants who need to be paid, along with the chefs and servers. The show is well choreographed, and they do try to encourage energy from the audience. Food was delicious! Luau is held around sunset, and some tables are in the sun. They recommend a hat, which is a good idea. You do not need to arrive early, as they have seating pre-arranged and groups are assigned to tables. Highly recommended!!

Yelp
Located in the Waeila Beach Resort, it really is a spectacular setting with the ocean in the background making it so picturesque. It's first come first served for the table when you reserve. We go the premium seats about a month out so we were not in the first or second row even for the $$$$. Nevertheless, we were able to see fairly well. Seating is pretty important given the location of the sun. Our Luau was on April 1st so the weather was nice but we had our faces to the sun at 5pm and we were roasting!! The food was good- i know some folks didn't like the rolls but I probably could have eaten the basket lol. Not to worry, they will bring you extra if whatever you want run out. No pics of the entrees ::/ Open bar with fruity drinks and sodas.

Yelp
The best part is the venue is absolutely beautiful. The rest didn't hit the mark for me and my friends. If you're looking for traditional, this is not the luau for you. The performers did an amazing job, but you can tell this luau was created towards a certain demographic. The crowd was lame and the overall luau is so short, but when you're performing for this type of crowd I don't blame them. The food was meh and their family style table service wastes a lot of food. If you visit O'ahu, please check out Chief's luau and you will be blown away by the difference.

Yelp
Very disappointing. We paid $260 each. With $100 max. The food was very simple and the show was really disappointing. YouTube will be better. Stay away.

Yelp
This luau is at the Wailea Beach Resort by Marriott and is quite amazing! It is oceanfront, you get an amazing quality multiple course meal, drinks (open bar), and an amazing storytelling experience!! I've seen a few other luaus take place on the island and one in Kauai and truly felt this was the best. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Best luau ever! Superb staff, delicious dishes, beautiful backdrop and an amazing show! I've been to quite a few of these, and this is the best set up of all. Here you get designated a table before you arrive, and the waiter brings all the courses to you, with an explanation of every item. And they were all excellent, even the Namasu Pickles, which were lightly pickled local cucumbers. You check in at 5pm, and you get served at 5:30pm, and then there are a couple of short performances while you eat, but the real show starts at 7pm. This is the perfect way to go about it so that you're finished eating and can focus completely on the dancers. I hope to always come to see this show while on Maui. And just a tip...arrive 1/2 hour early so you have time to ask for directions...and you will need to because the resort is huge...then walk the 10 minutes to the location.

Yelp
Very solid and entertaining Luau located at the Wailea Marriott Resort. The setting is absolutely beautiful with a beach front as the background. Free parking is available but as others have stated, it is quite a scenic walk through the resort grounds to the Luau. I would arrive about 30 mins before start time so you can take photos at the beautiful resort and before you check in. After the event is over, they offer a golf cart ride back to the parking lot. We decided to walk while the older guests of our party took the golf cart. We arrived to our cars at the same time. They do not start seating until the start time. No rush to get there first as seating is already set and decided based upon when you booked. So the sooner you book, the better seats you will get. I would just book as early as possible instead of paying more for the premium seating. It seemed there were not any bad tables. The open bar also offers sodas for the kids along with virgin Pina coladas and daiquiris or a Miami Vice (which I finally learned it was the mix of the two). A self-service coffee and tea station is also available. During the cocktail period, be sure to walk around for pictures and check out the temporary tattoo and craft tables. There are so many different variety of dishes brought out to your table. See photos for comments. Overall it was solid for a buffet Luau. The best part of the evening were all the performers and the friendly and courteous servers and crew. Would definitely recommend this luau.

Yelp
Probably closer toe a 3.5, the lower 3 star rating is also due to the cost, since it's $265 pp for a normal ticket which is quite pricey. The nice thing is the setting is facing the ocean which always isn't the case. In addition, this isn't a buffet and they serve you everything and you can get extra of anything you want. The food was decent...but the mains weren't that great. The chicken, steak and fish were all over-cooked unfortunately. The poke was good and so was the salad with dried beef. Good option of lots of different food though for everyone. The show was good, though a smaller troupe than some. It was 4 male and 4 female dancers, but they were pretty good and had fun with it. The MC was great and told a bit of history. Highlight as always are the fire dancers, there were 2. It was a great evening and service was very good. Beautiful location and good choice if you're staying south in Wailea.

Yelp
I did a lot of research for all the luau was available in Maui and came to the conclusion that this one was the best one. For the most part, after experience, I believe it is so. The major issue with our luck was that our reservation was for one of the two days of the mega storm that we had from the Kona lows in mid December. The luau staff did update us and let us know that they were going to move it inside and we had the choice of either rescheduling or continuing with the luau as it is or getting a refund. As I had family visiting off island, I had to go with the indoor luau, which I knew wasn't going to be as dramatic or beautiful as the normal scheduled new hours that they have but we had to watch one while they were in town. The original location for the luau is gorgeous right on the water at the hotel on the beach and has gorgeous views of the islands and the crater out on the water. We were looking forward to that view, but ultimately we had to stay inside the ballroom, which was just a few minutes of a walk to the water. Unfortunately because of the giant storm, a lot of trees had fallen, and there was a lot of traffic getting there. We got lost and got stuck in a lot of traffic, and finally arrived about 10 to 15 minutes late into the luau. Sadly, the ballroom was very sparsely, decorated and bland, which I understand isn't a priority because it was a last minute change, but still it was a little depressing to see That there was not a lot of indoor decorations. The bar is great because it is an open bar and it's not premade cocktails. The food is family style so we got to enjoy it ourselves. I just wish we were able to take to go containers because they wasted a lot of food and the portions are so large I don't know who will be able to eat all this. They had some kid activities but if you miss it, you miss it and they don't bring it back, which was unfortunate for our nieces, because they only did one of the two activities. The host is flamboyant and fabulous and we love them so much. The dancers, culture, the stories were all wonderful, but because again this was endorsed. The acoustics were horrible and we could barely understand what the host was saying. Hopefully in the future, if they were to have to do it indoors again, they could improve the acoustics, and maybe add a little decorations that you're not staring at the back of a conference ballroom wall.

Yelp
I am so happy I chose Te Au Moana Luau. I have severe allergies to many foods and notified the reservationist when I made the reservations. They went above and beyond to ensure I had plenty of food that I could eat. We all loved the food and found it to be tastier than other luaus we have attended. The drinks were delicious too! Joe was our server and he was very kind, alert, readily available and an all-around great person. You can't beat the view behind the luau. We all loved the show too! Great performers. We were only disappointed with the photographer (blinnk photography) that is present to take your pictures for a charge. I wouldn't waste your money since everyone has phones with exceptional cameras.

Yelp
Our group of 8 had a fantastic time at the luau. We were first timers to the island and wanted to experience the food and culture. When we arrived, we were concerned about the wind, but as soon as we entered the venue, we found it was sheltered. We paid for premium seating and the seats were fantastic. The hostess of ceremonies had a clear, calm, beautiful story telling and singing voice. The performers were so fun and enthusiastic. We loved all of the costume changes. Lisa Marie was our server and went above what we expected. She was top notch! Te Au Moana Luau was the highlight of our trip and we all would highly recommend it.

Yelp
Amazing! We booked the VIP seating and was seated right up at the front. We were greeted with a kukui nut lei and seated at our table. They had traditional style temporary inked tattoos and a book mark craft my kids enjoyed. The music was perfect and there was some small shows during the meal part with breaks so the guests could go take sunset pictures. They also had some local artisans and their wares. We got some hair flowers and a gorgeous wooden mask. The food was great and served family style on a lazy Susan. If you ran out of anything the waiter would bring more. The poke was amazing and he refilled it twice for our hungry poke lovers. The rolls were not good though, and we were way too full for dessert. They did show off the whole roasted pork. The woman who was leading the performance was amazing, her voice was so lovely. All in all she have a historical knowledge as well as introducing the different types of dancing shown. It was not just Hawaiian but Polynesian, so if you are looking for a pure Hawaiian luau this might not be for you.

Yelp
We had a great time here for Thanksgiving dinner. The staff are incredible and the performances and the beachfront setting were the total Hawaiian experience. The food is pretty standard luau with poke, poi, kalua pork, baked fish, short ribs, rice, salads, etc. We also had some of the best turkey, potatoes and t-day chow I've ever had. Not kidding, sorry fam but yeah you got pretty much bested by a Maui hotel luau on Thanksgiving food. Plus free drinks. And hula girls. And fire dancers. And the sunset over the pacific. And tropical breeze. Oh and hilarious tablemates. That couple with the MIL from Oakland, CA sharing our table was fun. The kids loved the whole experience and it's only a 50 yard walk back to the room if you stay at the Marriott which I also recommend.

Yelp
My partner and I were super sick 6+ hours after our meal here, and I reached out regarding food poisoning via phone, and they asked me to send an email over so they could get me in touch with the manager. I have still not heard from a manager here TLDR; HIGHLIGHTS was the kind server and the live music and performers. LOWLIGHTS were food poisoning, quality of food, price point. PRICE: over $250 for a Friday night Luau - the price is really steep. It is all you can eat with live entertainment and an open bar, but there are many other luaus on the island with a lower price point if you book in advance. This was one of the last ones available since I booked my trip last minute FOOD: it's a 3 course meal served directly to your table. Every party has their own private table which they call "Ohana seating." I believe this is a COVID adjustment as it was previously buffet style. The first course includes poke, noodles, Mac salad, salad, and taro Hawaii sweet bread. The bread was the best thing of this first course. The noodles tasted like they were from an instant meal packet. The poke is not cold upon bringing it to your table. The second course is meats: pork, chicken, beef, sauce, and fried rice. The pork and fried rice were very dry. The last course is dessert: fruit salad, pineapple upside down cake, chocolate cake, cookies and more It is ALOT of food, and all you can eat so you can order more food if you want. Whether you are 2 people or 5 people at a table, they bring you the same portion but you can always ask for more SERVICE: our server was incredibly kind. He explained each of the dishes and always checked in to see if we needed anything else. He was also quick to clear the plates and to get our photos right when the sun set PERFORMANCE: They have talented dancers and musicians who showcase Polynesian culture. It was easy to hear them and see them from our seats.

Yelp
Do not book tickets counting on this show to happen. They canceled us for a private booking about a week before our show date. Customer service with ticketing is 1 out of 10. We booked four premium seats early for January 20, 2023 which was $1200. About a week before the show we were notified that our show had been cancelled and we were offered a refund or reschedule. Our show was not cancelled. Some group wanted to book the entire show on January 20th for a private party and we were unceremoniously given the boot even though we paid in full in advance. We rescheduled for January 23rd and this caused us grief with other reservations. The food was 5 out of 10 at best. The open bar can be summed up with Whalers Rum and fruit juice along with canned beer. There is some other stuff but it's basically a High School party mix. The food is not good, and that is being kind. Overcooked is the theme here for the fish, steak and chicken. The steak was cooked well to the point of being a little grey. The best of the lot was the chicken. The macaroni salad and noodles were not flavorful or complimentary. Having been to Feast at LeLe, Old Lahaina Luau, and others this has the least favorable food by far. Ambiance and show is 9/10. The show itself is great, possibly in the top 3 on the island. The staff at the venue were kind and very thoughtful. The servers seemed rushed. The performance was wonderful and the backdrop of the sun setting over Molokini and Kaho'olawe was fantastic. The performers are top notch. The Good: Performers and setting were great. The Bad: The food and beverages were not quality. The Ugly: Customer service and ticketing. Just not reliable.

Yelp
Te Au Moana Luau is at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort on Maui. The wife and daughter and I was able to book this at the last minute. The tickets are a little pricy at all luaus ($225 - $300 per seat) This one was about $250 for the premium seats. The Marriott Resort is beautiful to start with. Everything is clean and immaculately kept. It is a hike from the parking garage if you don't know the shortcut. You walk down and around the front of the Resort to the luau. Not a bad walk along the shoreline. The round tables and chairs are arranged so everyone at the table has a view of the stage - a small grass covered hill backstopped by the ocean. There is a lazy susan on the table so the family style meal can be passed easily around. The bar is open and the drinks I found just so-so. Wasn't looking to get loopy but the alcohol content was a little low. Tasty none-the-less. Our waitress was super! It was raining when we arrived so she passed out plastic panchos and told us the show may be cancelled if it didn't stop raining. I'm thinking the food is going to be a little soggy too. But, thank the LORD, the rain stopped just as the food was being delivered to the table. Being in the tropics, I guess you have to expect that rain may be crashing the party at anytime. The grass clad staff carried the pig through the audience on a wire and bamboo stretcher so we could see how the kalua pork was prepared. It must have been for the next luau because the meal arrived shortly thereafter and the pork was streaded and sauced. I doubt all that happened to the paraded swine within the 15 minutes that passed. The etree menu also consisted of beef, chicken and pinapple, and Mahi Mahi. The wife and I found the meal exceptionally well prepared. They will keep filling the dishes so don't get upset if the big guy next to you takes all the Mahi Mahi before it gets to you. There is more on the way. The show consisted of seven people (3 men and 4 women). The entertainment was well done. The ancestral storytelling of the people of Maui and the Pacific through humor, songs, and dances I found interesting. One of the stories was about the Fiji warriors. One of the exibitions made to their enemies to invoke fear was to stick out their tounge during their dance. While it was true that I found it a little disturbing; however, the warrior also wore a flower behind his ear duing the dance which didn't help his attempt to strike fear in his adversary. Of course the women doing the hula were excellent in displaying beautiful movements of their hips and hands during the story telling. Overall, it was a wonderful evening. I can't say it was the best one on Maui because I haven't seen the other shows; however, it was well done and very enjoyable. I highly recommend this luau. Bon appetite Yelpers and Aloha.

Yelp
It was an amazing show which featured beautiful dancers telling the stories of the Hawaiian islands and its people. The food was excellent and the service was superior. I would highly recommend.

Yelp
Food: okay but nothing really slaps you in the face. The pork was a little dry. The side dishes were good though and you won't need to worry about being hungry. Show: Really fun and entertaining. I paid for premium seating but you can just get regular seating and be almost as close. The view is amazing as well. Service: We initially didn't get our bread. After that, the service was good but it got started off to a choppy start.

Yelp
If you have not experience a luau yet, this won't be a bad first experience. If you have been to one before, this is just average. Food: Let's be honest, you are here for the experience, not the food. The food can be sumarized as "meh." It should be expected since they are mass cooking all the food. You do get to sample everything and request for seconds and even fifths, but nothing stood out to us (maybe the poke?). You can find much better food at local shops. For example, I was excited to see huli huli chicken on the menu. However, we had the chicken on Koki Beach just a few days ago, so it was a huge leftdown. This is not a luau where you can see a whole pig being roasted. Drinks: It's an open bar so you can drink your money's worth (but drink responsibly) Service: the staff was really friendly. Our designated staff member was quick to get any of our requests Seating: Due to COVID, each party had their own table, which was really nice not having to deal with multiple random honeymooners, but probably bad for profits. Venue: It is located within the Marriot. Go down towards the water once you arrive at the hotel. And the timing of the dinner allows you to see the sunset over the water. We had issues getting to the venue. Whatever address that was provided on our confirmation did not lead us to the correct destination (at least with Google maps). We had to call and ask for directions. Parking was free. Entertainment: It was fine. As mentioned at the beginning, probably better if you have never gone to one before. This is pretty much a culture lesson. I do like that the performers went through many of the different Pacific Islands and not just Hawaii. You don't get leied here. At least not with real flowers, which I have gotten before, but you do get one with plastics beads. Not sure what the reasoning for this was.

Yelp
This is 100% a tourist trap. It does not feel authentic Hawaiian at all. It is commercialized to a cheesy level. Price is more than a Michelin rated restaurant, quality is like grocery store prepped food. Seafood was absolutely not fresh. The "family" style dinner basically means they bring a little food for 7 people to share. Entertainment / dance was the same level as a high school performance with dancers uncoordinated at times. Drinks are not well made and served in plastic cups. You need to stand in a queue to get your drinks. Premium seating which consists of multiple rows and where you seat is not guaranteed. So we paid for "premium" and still had 2 tables full of people in front of us. We had to turn our seats around to be able to watch the show. Highly recommend avoiding this place.

Ashley A.

Yelp
Overpriced and over rated! This luau truly let me down. It is not worth $265 per person. The most I would pay for something like this is $50 a person, and that's shooting for the stars. The food was not good at all. There was a lot on the menu, but really nothing good to enjoy. At the end of the night I even threw up. The food was just horrendous and too scrambled. Like Mac and potatoe salad, poke and a pickled cucumber salad. They plated the pulled pork with some chicken. The presentation on the food was also disappointing. The service could use improvement as well. Th worst was that this was advertised as all you could eat, but about 25 minutes after they brought out the food, the waiter took all the food away. He asked if everyone was still eating while people were just taking a break. He took the food away anyways. As far as entertainment and ambiance, it was okay. They didn't concentrate on the pig. We saw it for a slight second. I'm not sure if that's even the pig they served to the people. On top of all of this, they charge $40 on one photo they took if you wanted to buy it... Positives: The performance and the dances were somewhat enjoyable. The dessert was good. The lay was fresh.

Yelp
Winner - Winner - Fabulous Luau Dinner! You just never know, do you? You book these things and then wait and pray it is at least halfway decent. Thankfully, Te Au Moano Luau KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK! Just a smattering of what I loved: * The location at Marriott's Wailea Grand Beach Resort is spectacular! I will give a bit of a warning, though, it is somewhat of a trek to get from the parking lot to the actual luau, be prepared. Oh, parking is free. * Seating guarantees there are no bad seats. I loved the fact that no one had their back to the stage. It also allows for great food service without inconveniencing anyone. Just FYI, each table has its own server! Yay! The big, round tables have this giant lazy Susan in the middle to accommodate the family-size platters and bowls perfectly. * The food...oh my gosh! FABULOUS! Okay, what else would you expect from the Waldorf Astoria? Yes, they are the ones preparing it. Not only was the amount of food more than large enough for the eight guests at each table, but it was so good! They had at least five different main courses ranging from grilled fish to pork. I think there were at least six different side dishes and rolls with butter that were as light as air! The desserts were plentiful and divine! I loved how they were cut into these very polite little squares so you could try all of them (probably more than once...) without feeling quite as guilty; ) I believe I am attaching their latest menu, YUM! * Did I mention there was also a big, well-serviced bar? Yes, there was! Seriously, they skimped on nothing! * Loved the MC! He got everyone up on their feet, engaged, and happy from the get-go to the very end. * The entertainment? WOW! Throw out your sad expectations of some "pretend mash-up of Polynesian dances". These were professional and beautifully culturally respectful, down to their makeup and attire. Incredible! Loved that! Is it a bit pricey? Probably. Was it worth every penny? And more! We loved it!!!!

Yelp
I was seriously worried after reading so many negative reviews. I expected to walk up a hill, ten miles barefoot in the heat, eat horrible food, and bake in the sun. It was right on the beach. It couldn't have been any prettier. The food was good. I have a vegetarian who they accommodated and a super picky kid who didn't leave hungry. Open bar for 2.5 hours. If you had a horrible time you could only blame yourself.

Tigran H.

Yelp
$265 a person. Here we go: Food was awful. Not only was it awful, they cleared the table after 35 minutes of sitting. Dessert was small pieces of brownies and coconut cake pieces. Waste of time. Do not recommend. The best thing part was the beach view. I recommend going to a restaurant with the same beach view with much better food, both in quality and quantity.

Yelp
You didn't book the Old Lahaina Luau in time did you? Yeah, we didn't either, which is why we ended up here. It's expensive, but don't fret, it's not terrible! The script for the show was VERY similar to a show we saw on Oahu. But that's not a bad thing, it was a very good show contrary to what many said. It's entertaining and gets better as it goes. This is the reason to go, not the food/drinks or anything else. If you want a good meal, take the $275/per person they charge here and go find a good restaurant for half the price. Here's the important things to know. 1) There's not a bad seat in the house. The food is brought to your table, so don't pay extra for special seating, you aren't missing anything and there are no long lines for food/drinks. 2) There's an open bar and the drinks are pretty good and pretty strong minus the MaiTai which was eh. There's also no long line either as it's staffed well, which is rare and appreciated. 3) The food is brought to your table in waves and is actually pretty decent. Now it won't knock your socks off, but there's a LOT of it and it's a strong average so not bad at all. 4) Tables are shared with others which is going to be hit or miss. Ours was a miss as the folks we sat with had unruly kids who the staff had to make announcements about twice. 5) The luau is at a resort and it's a LONG walk. 6) Here is the biggest reason this was not a 4/5 review. The show starts at 430!! Who in their right mind thought this was a good idea? The stage and tables face West and you will BAKE for the first hour and a half. We were drenched in sweat and it almost killed my appetite by the time the meals arrived. Basically everyone was complaining and it was bad enough that it would have been a deal breaker had I known beforehand. This HAS to be addressed, it is horrible and not necessary. Start the show at 530, lower the insane $275 price per ticket, add a little flavor to the food and you'll have a solid luau on your hands. As for now, be prepared to be miserable for an hour and a half in the beginning, temper your expectations with the food and you'll be alright.

Yelp
AMAZING. The food, the show, the venue. All so beautiful. The food was served in three courses family style, so we ate A LOT. We were allowed to ask for more if we wanted as well. So many delicious dishes. The views were spectacular. The luau was nestled into the Wailea Beach Resort, which was breathtaking in itself. The sun set behind the stage, and it was beautiful. The show was great! Hula dancers, fire dancing, singing, music, etc. I highly recommend this luau.

Yelp
By far one of the best luau's we've been to on any of the islands. Service was great right off the bat and the setting is fantastic. Solid drink selection at the bar, although I would say the drinks were a little on the light side but it's all good because it's all you can drink. The show itself was good, with a super fire finale. My only negative comment was about the food waste and I do hope management sees this as a fellow restaurant owner it was disappointing to see so much good food go to the trash. It was served family style and was easy to share on the giant lazy Susan. The portions could have been cut in half and since they had plenty of staff, they were going around asking if people wanted certain dishes refilled. I know it is hard to predict how much people will eat at a luau but most of the tables had a lot of food go to waste. That being said the food was really great for a luau.

Yelp
We picked this luau because it was a very easy walk to our resort. We paid for VIP which was nice. We were seated at our table rather quickly since we were first in line. Which was nice. It was lovely receiving a lei as a keep sake. Sitting close was really awesome, great view of the ocean and the performers. This was our first luau so we everything was new and fun. The food was great in a sense you get to taste a little bit of everything however nothing really stood out to us that we just had to try again. Location is absolutely beautiful. The performance was wonderful and gave a lot of information. It was nice to see them make it special by recognizing birthdays and anniversaries and such. The song for the couples dance was a cute touch. We would come back for the location.

Yelp
Nice luau located beachfront at Marriott (not at the Grand Wailea). Recommend getting the VIP table if you can. The dance program was nice and they had the fire dance. Note that this is not the old traditional luau. Good dishes (in order): poke, chicken, garlic noodles, kahlua pork. The desserts were meh. Decent cocktails. Great service and our food server kept refilling dishes we liked which was so nice.

Yelp
After receiving this luau as a recommendation, I am SO glad this was the choice we made. We paid for the VIP tickets and didn't have to wait in any lines and were escorted right to our table in the second row. The food was delicious, and the drinks were yummy and strong! I must also say that the staff were all so friendly and really enjoyed being there. The performers were fantastic and the show was phenomenal. Finally that sunset, wow! The resort itself and landscape around were beautiful. I highly recommend this experience. *As a side note. While we were in Maui there was a massive rain storm with flash floods. Because of this our original scheduled dinner was cancelled but we were easily able to reschedule to the following night. They also provided free cancellation if rescheduling was not a possibility.

Yelp
2.5-3 stars. We ended up going to this as other luau's were booked. It was an overall alright experience. The hotel itself is GORGEOUS. Beautifully landscaped, nice foliage, just beautiful with a great ocean view. It is about a 10 minute walk to the luau, which means you walk through the beautiful views. The luau is COVID friendly (each party has their own table and rather than buffet style, everything is brought to each table). Drinks are unlimited for 1.5 hours (there's a tasty virgin pina colada that I kept coming back for). Our server was excellent. The menu sounds delicious. In regards to the the actual food and performance, everything was just OK. The announcements of the show weren't always clear and I did feel like the program was very short with a lot of filler (e.g. singing happy birthday to everyone who's had a birthday in the month, asking every longstanding couple/relationship how long they've been together and watching them do a dance, etc.). The food itself, while beautiful, was very mediocre overall. My favorite dish was the steak which was cooked nicely. Everything else just fell short of my expectations, but I suppose with bulk, it is difficult to produce very high quality food. Overall, for over $250 pp, this was just an alright experience.

Yelp
Since the awful wildfire devastated West Maui, we were unable to return to our resort and before leaving Hawaii, we wanted to remember it with a luau. We had gone to a luau 5 years ago in Lahaina and was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived to check in for the luau to being seated at our table, I did not feel the usual welcome and warmth you normally receive from Hawaii. When we checked in, we gave the woman our name and she couldn't find it and immediately sent us to the the Standard seating line. We reserved premium seating but did not bother to even ask us. And after being seated, we met our waitress (named Kar or Kat? ) who I immediately felt judged us and was not the friendliest. Throughout the entire event, she was not considerate and showed up serving us at the most awkward times. The waitress only came to our table when they were having a performance and we were trying to enjoy the show. Once she came to ask us if there was anything else we wanted but we only started the meal not too long ago and were busy watching and taking pictures. After the performance, she did not bother to come ask us if we wanted anything else and my husband ended up getting up to flag her down. Second time she came by our table was during the performance towards the end. Even the lady speaker of the show asked ppl to restrain from getting up and disrupting the performance. The waitress purposely got in our way during the performance!!! Moreover, our candle centerpiece on our table was not lit and she never bothered to light it when it was lit on all the other tables. She really ruined the Luau for us. She was absolutely rude, unfriendly and racist!! On each table there was a hawaiian flower clip placed on the candle handle. I thought this was for the guests so I took it for my daughter. At the end, when we were about to leave, it was nowhere to be found and my daughter said the waitress took it. So I went to another table to get it for the daughter. The waitress definitely has a thing with us. She was cleaning another table further away and when she saw me taking it, she rudely said "Can I get that back?". Okay, so I give it back in surprise. This clip cost a measly couple bucks and we spend $265 per ticket... for a group of 8 people. She ruined the atmosphere and made us feel miserable after the luau. The only win for the luau is their beautiful view. The food was mediocre compared to the luau I went to in Lahaina. Some of the food was not too fresh. This is the reason I spend more for the 3 or 5-course dinner rather than a buffet because these set meals normally have better food. It was not the case here. The show was pretty good, but not as cultural or authentic as what I've seen. I would not recommend for the price and service.

Yelp
First time here in Maui so we looking for a good dinner to close out our vacation. We must of done couple of hours of research and finally came down to choosing this one. We are glad we did. We stayed in the La haina area so it's a 45 min drive. Not bad. When we got there we noticed the parking was a good walk way back so we opted to get valet. The gentleman that greeted us told us to save our money and allowed us to park in their valet parking for free which was less than 30 sec walk. Very nice gentleman. From there you have to walk around the hotel to reach the destination. About 7 min walk. Checking in was smooth and our host walked us to our table. We got the standard seating which was perfectly fine. The tables are spread out and anywhere you sit you get a good view. Food was ok. Desert was great. Show was amazing. Our host even took us down to get sunset pics and kept us informed at all times. The bar is open until 30 mins before end of show. Overall great experience. 1x recommendation: Once the show is over you got to take the same route back. It's real dark with very limited lighting on edge of small hill. Not the greatest recipe for safety as many of us were a little tipsy. Do your self a favor and spend the extra money. I know you will find a little cheaper but trust me it's well worth it.

Yelp
WOW! This luau does it so well! Especially with COVID guidelines and restrictions. Staff make you feel safe and they have the tables arranged per party. So my husband and I had our table to ourself. Everything was served to our table except the cocktails. The food was well portioned and endless! Even if you ran out of a plate, they were able to give us seconds. Though we never asked because we were so full. The show was very well done with great singing and performing. This luau did it well and worth the money to get the Hawaiian experience. Only negative thing was the photography company only had two staff so we waited about 30 minutes to obtain and purchase the photo from the night. They could've staffed more people because sadly I think people left and didn't want to wait. We didn't have to deal with parking because we stayed at the Wailea Marriott. Which is a perk if you stay there! You don't have to hassle with parking!

Yelp
If you feel like you have to go to a Luau when you're in Maui, this feels like a good pick. Full disclosure this is the only Luau I've done, but I can't imagine the experience being that much better anywhere else. The food was buffet quality at best - but they're serving 300+ people, so you can't expect much. Don't be fooled by the pork hype. Drinks flow but they're rail and they don't do much besides Mai Tais and Vodka Punch. The show is good and the Fire Knife show is pretty unreal. Good COVID policies. Big price tag, so you gotta do you!

Kendall B.

Yelp
We were absolutely blown away by this luau experience. Instead of the traditional buffet style meal, all of the food was brought to our table where we shared with the other people at the table. This made it feel much more intimate. The food was incredibly delicious. The shows were fantastic! I highly recommend this luau if you are in Maui!

Yelp
Food was bad, like really bad. Mahi Mahi was super dry. Seating arrangement made no sense to be able to watch the show, your view is blocked by people's heads. Value for what you pay (we paid $300 per person for premium) is simply not worth it. Need to wait in line to get your drinks in plastic cups. Ritual dancing from "New Zealand" was the best part of the show..

Yelp
The overall experience was OK. I like how each party is seated at their own table due to COVID precautions and I would prefer it remain that way even when those COVID precautions go away. Food/drinks: Subpar, especially the desserts, which definitely looked and tasted store-bought. You could definitely find cheaper and higher quality food elsewhere. Open bar makes the tickets a little more worth it. Service: Quick to take away dishes even though my friends weren't quite done eating. At the end of the luau, I heard staff members shouting at each other "don't let anyone take any food home"...yikes, that kind of ruined my experience. Entertainment: Probably good for a first-timer, but I personally was not impressed after going to luaus in Oahu where tourism is definitely heavier and more is invested into each luau. You don't get to see an actual pig get buried in this one. It was mostly talking and dancing from the same group of maybe ~10 entertainers. The stage was small so not sure if they could've fit more dancers in anyway. Venue: I did like that it was located within the beautiful Marriott and right next to the water. Watching the sun set was nice- bring sunglasses and/or a hat! It can be hard to look at the stage with the sun blaring in the background. Other: Disappointed that we didn't receive the real flower leis and instead received cheap (probably plastic) "rock" ones instead. Also you need to pay for the official pictures, so I'd recommend you skip it. You'll probably get just as nice of a picture on your own near the water which I did.

Yelp
I was told by a friend that going to a luau was a MUST for any visit to Maui so even though I winced as I paid over $400 for tickets for my boyfriend and I, I kept reassuring myself that it would be worth it. All of the other luaus were already sold out. This is a good all-in-one experience for those who might not have enough time to fully explore the island, but I think I would prefer spending the price of the ticket over several different occasions rather than in one jam packed night. We received a text the day of that we had to arrive 30 minutes earlier than we thought, so when we arrived late, the party was already in full swing. Thankfully, the host manning the tables told me that all we missed was the hula dancing lessons. It looked like we had arrived just in time for the dinner portion, which we were most excited about. The amount of food we were served was insane. The portions were massive and there were at least 5 different dishes for each course. We started off with a garden salad, ahi poke, potato salad, garlic noodles, and taro dinner rolls. Then we were served pork chops, sweet potato, kalua pork, garden veggies, pork, roasted chicken, and fried rice with a side of poi. Most of the food was either not good or so-so and the speed at which they served it was overwhelming. We had barely dug into the appetizers when the entrees came, and so on. One of the things that were surprisingly bad were the kalua pork, a famous Hawaiian dish. It was completely stripped of moisture and flavor. The poke wasn't fresh and the fried rice made me crave my own homemade portion. We did eat a good portion of the roasted chicken, taro dinner rolls, and desserts. Our dessert platter of petit cakes and cookies was surprisingly delicious, moist, and light. I loved the Hawaiian and coconut flavors and managed to enjoy them even during the show. In between dishes, we visited the open bar and took advantage of the unlimited drinks. The rationale for serving the dinner quickly is so you aren't distracted from the show. Over the course of ~2 hrs, your eyes will fixed on the stage unblinkingly, not wanting to miss a single moment of the hula, cultural dances, and fire dancing. They do a great job of showcasing traditional dances from different Polynesian cultures. The performances and atmosphere provided so many great vibes and everyone seemed to be enjoying the night. Overall, this luau makes a good effort of providing value for the price you pay. Their venue is beautiful and perfect for enjoying dinner over a picturesque sunset. The performances were mesmerizing and service was great. The only complaint I have is that I wish the food were tastier.

Yelp
We loved our experience here. Everyone was so kind and friendly. Scenery was beautiful. Dances and stories were interesting. Food was fine, nothing really spectacular but better than my expectations. I bought VIP seats and we didn't have to wait at all. I didn't realize we would be sitting with other people. Our family of 5 sat with 2 other couples. It was totally fine and actually fun to meet them but I just didn't realize we would not be getting our own table. Also I paid an extra $100/per person to get the VIP hoping I would be in the first row of tables to get the best view but we were in the third row which was a bit of a bummer. However we were in the aisle table which meant we had a close up view of the dancers going up and down as well as the kalua pork. The MC was so professional. Our server was friendly and informative. The open bar was nice. Parking was easy. The Westin Hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the view can't be beat. Overall I would say it was one of the highlights of our trip!

Yelp
Biggest negative is after the price of the luau, you still have to pay $50 for valet parking. You arrive with a welcome and lei. Then a greeter asks your name and shows you to your table. The waitperson arrives and tells us where to find all drinks. There is live music as everyone gets seated and the emcee briefs us on what the program will entail. A presentation of the pig and then appetizers are served. If we ran low, our waitress brought more. Then dinner, my friend had an onion allergy so her plate was separate, the vegetables had mushrooms and because of my allergy, separate veggies were brought to me. We were catered to and felt special. Food was delicious and plentiful. The program was awesome, beautiful and informative. So energetic and seemed happy to perform.

Yelp
Great food, great show, great location. Yup, that's it. Well Yelp doesn't really like short reviews so I will elaborate. The food was great, the show was great, and the location was incredible! (Haha) An awesome spread of island grub set right on the beach overlooking the island of Kaho'olawe right at sunset. The dancers and live musicians were top notch! The food was amazing and the open bar was generous and flowing till nearly the end of the event. I've been to Maui many times and have to been to many luaus on several of the Hawaiian islands over the years and this one was my favorite to date. If your in the market for a luau then this is a great choice

MIchelle W.

Yelp
The show is worth the price, with a dazzling display of music, dance and traditions from the Polynesian islands. Although the food is plentiful and varied, it tends to be on the bland side, and could use some sauces, but that's not really the point of the evening which is the backdrop of the ocean sunset and hospitality. We have a family member who uses a wheelchair and we really thank Glenn for giving us a ride back to our car and his golf cart. Mahalo!!

Yelp
We had such a beautiful night. They food was good and the entertainment was even better. Jonas our waiter was very attentive and explained everything that we were eating and what was going on. The sunset was amazing. Definitely a great way to end our trip.

Yelp
Visiting friends and family brought me to the Te Au Moana Luau show located at the Wailea Marriott. In Maori, "te au" means the trend. "Moana" in Hawaiian is ocean. I'm not sure how much tickets were as someone bought them for us (lucky us!) We also missed the admission line as our group went ahead of my spouse and me and got a table. People go early to try and get a "good table" but the intimate grounds provide good views from all tables. PARKING: We were greeted to a line of cars trying to enter the hotel. Once we got up to the front, staff members asked where we were headed to in the hotel. I guess parking in the structure is limited for luau guests so we were given a validation ticket to park in the Shops At Wailea parking lot which abuts the hotel, but we had to turn around and get back on Wailea Alanui to access it. If this is what you have to do, turn right into the mall's north parking lot (near Island Gourmet Market) and park all the way down towards the ocean near the pedestrian access to the hotel. There is also a vehicular exit only here back onto the hotel's driveway. When we exited there, we didn't need the hotel's validation ticket as payment was zero even with 3+ hours of parking. ATMOSPHERE: The luau is located beach side at the south end of the property. The views are gorgeous with the Pacific, sunset, and islands of Kaho'olawe and Lana'i in the background. The grounds are covered in artificial turf with the stage rising up on the ocean side atop a low knoll. A takeaway bar sits at the back of the property, serving basic drinks like mai tais and draft beers (all included in the ticket price). I had several "vodka punch" drinks which were not bad and light on the liquor. Though we missed seeing it, they have an imu (underground oven) "ceremony" where the pig is taken out of after being cooked. Professionally-taken photos are available for purchase along with a few arts and crafts, with wood carvings being made on-site. FOOD: As we stood in line for the buffet, a worker on auto-announce bellowed that "you're more than welcome to come up for seconds" as many were taking two plates due to their small size. My advice? Take two plates so you don't have to get up and wait in line again. The self-serve buffet had dual lanes and moved pretty quickly. This was definitely not the best luau food on the rock. Hawaiian-themed cuisines included kalua pork, lomi salmon, sweet potato and poi, all of which were good. The rest of the food were non-native and just okay - green salad, potato salad, fried rice, steamed fish, steamed veggies, steak and chicken. A platter of desserts got dropped off for the table to share that included cookies, pineapple upside down cake, nut-less (boo) banana bread and brownies. ENTERTAINMENT: The company "Tihati" handles the entertainment here, along with other luau shows on Maui. The emcee was good and she had a nice singing voice to boot. An ice breaker started where two people from the audience were pulled onto stage for a conch shell blowing contest which was pretty entertaining and funny as one guy could do it while the other couldn't. Children were then called up for a short hula lesson. After dinner, a haka, dances of hula, Tahitian and Samoan fire knife were all entertaining along with the live band. In between the acts they recognize birthdays and anniversaries in the audience. SERVICE: One of the female greeters was so friendly and welcoming. She saw us taking selfies and offered assistance without asking. Everything is self-serve sans for staff who clear the tables. Bartenders were quick and semi-friendly. OVERALL: If you're staying in the area and want to see a luau, this place will suffice. IMO, two better luaus reside in Lahaina.

Yelp
We had the best time! Food was delicious the staff was wonderful and friendly! They went over in beyond in service! They even helped my dad who had a hard time with the walk to the luau grounds, (he walks with a cane) they gave him a ride on a golf cart, straight to the luau! 1st class service all around! I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
If you are looking for a good luau here on the island of Maui, this is the place! Probably one of the best Luaus I have ever been too. The show was incredible, everyone was so talented and I just love the array of colitis and costumes and being submerged in the pacific island culture. Such beauty! The food was good too! Only thing that sucks is the food does get cold pretty fast so once it hits your table, eat eat eat! Also they have open bar! Really great production. I recommend getting premium seating if you can.

Yelp
Incredible time at the luau with my wife on our honeymoon! So much delicious food and I enjoyed the Maui Brewing IPA. Nelson was awesome and he made our night by being such a great guy.

Yelp
I don't understand the little nit-picky complaints in other reviews. The atmosphere was positive and relaxing. Our server was personable and kind. The MC was engaging and knowledgeable. The food (family style) was apparently modified for COVID, but still great, flavorful, and plenty available. Some dishes were better than others (I preferred the pig and poke over the steak and potatoes). When we ran out of poke, the server was right there with more. The bar tenders were great, fast, and friendly. We were "dry" tonight, but still got great "lava flows". Tue show was amazing. Simple, but understandable. It was paced well, and gave time to stretch and chat with other. Happy with the experience, and would 100% go back.

Yelp
Food and service were great. They catered to my allergy and my meal was fantastic. Show was fantastic and open bar was great option and worth it. What lacked was lighting on walkway out and directions to exit. Got lost at dark, however that maybe a hotel issue. Great value, all you can eat, drink, and just relax with the beautiful sunset. 100% recommend.
