Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery

We took the grandchildren here (7 and 5) at their request. The art and the building are phenomenal. The grandchildren liked the stairs, the elevators and the learning area the best, but we spent a very happy hour there!

Te Uru Waitākere Contemporary Gallery is an absolute gem! This is the place to come to if you want to experience new and contemporary art. They change their exhibits and installations often, to make every visit fresh and interesting. Your personal taste will inform the visit. Some contemporary installation are brilliantly inspired and inspiring, and showcases local New Zealand history and artists. Although I could appreciate the passion and effort that went into creating those works of art, I just didn't "get" some of the pieces. The building itself is an architectural marvel. It also offers beautiful outside views, displaying the wooded areas and the harbour as art itself. Well worth a visit!

I am in love! This gallery is spacious, 5 leveled and filled with stunning, engaging art. There is even a rooftop terrace to take beautiful, scenic photos and take a moment to admire the nature around you.

I love this gallery. I always visit when I travel up from south island to see my family. The water colour paintings by Gretchen Albrecht at Dec/Jan xmas holidays were a colour feast for the eyes. Really enjoyable. The views from the different levels building are a real treat too. The portage Ceramics award pieces here are always special to see. This place is a gem. Its gallery store is nice too.

Te Uru is a wonderful contemporary art gallery. Highest recommendation. This is the place to come to in order to experience exciting new art. This is a world class facility. The building is worth visiting irrespective of what is on display. They don't have a permanent collection so it changes constantly but they do have some really fabulous offerings.

What a great exhibition space! Highly recommend just going in to look out the windows at the view. But the exhibitions are high quality too. Plenty of parking on the street

Although it’s a small art gallery, it offers a variety of art pieces on display. The art building itself has interesting history.

Lopdell House is Titirangi's historic cultural heart and its functions go far beyond an art gallery. I've been here on school trips doing art workshops in the dank basement. I've been to plays in the theatre by the Titirangi Theatre Company. My favourite thing to do here is to ride the elevator; vintage and beautiful with a pull-across iron gate. Even just popping in to the cafe to soak up the atmosphere is worthwhile. Unfortunately none of us will be doing much of anything at Lopdell House for the next little while as Auckland Council treats it to a much-needed makeover including serious structural work and a whole new adjacent building. In the meantime the gallery and theatre are operating out of temporary spaces in New Lynn. We can look forward to this grand old lady that started life as a hotel, reopening rejuvenated and hopefully being around for many years to come.

A great new gallery building next to the lovely Lopdell House. Amazing architecture & veiws along with cool contemporary art exhibitions. A great reason to head west! Stop on the way to tbe beach.

Lovely contemporary gallery in the beautiful suburb of Titirangi. Interesting local art exhibits in a contemporary gallery space. Checked it out on our drive back to Auckland from Karekare. Glad we stopped. The views are stunning.
