Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery

Absolutely loved my experience with Adrian and Naomi! Loved the different atmospheres of the whole experience within the Te Uru Gallery along with the workspaces that really intrigued both myself and our children of Henderson South School!

I love this place and have always been a regular. Te Uru makes amazing curations, with gorgeous views and strong architecture. The writing for the exhibitions has always let me down and I often opt out of reading them. Today at Te Uru they said Bill Hammond was from Christchurch but he’s from Lyttleton!

It is spacious gallery and free entry. However the exhibit has little to be desired and lack luster.

Beautiful building in a lovely location. Great mix of up and coming and established contemporary arts. The only let down seems to be the texts provided by the gallery. Often times it is confused and lazy, doesn’t provide much information and can even be misinformed.

Te Uru Waitākere Contemporary Gallery is an absolute gem! This is the place to come to if you want to experience new and contemporary art. They change their exhibits and installations often, to make every visit fresh and interesting. Your personal taste will inform the visit. Some contemporary installation are brilliantly inspired and inspiring, and showcases local New Zealand history and artists. Although I could appreciate the passion and effort that went into creating those works of art, I just didn't "get" some of the pieces. The building itself is an architectural marvel. It also offers beautiful outside views, displaying the wooded areas and the harbour as art itself. Well worth a visit!

What a disappointing experience. When we visited the exhibits were nearly all videos. The only painting worth seeing was near the lift of the beautiful art deco building next door.

I am in love! This gallery is spacious, 5 leveled and filled with stunning, engaging art. There is even a rooftop terrace to take beautiful, scenic photos and take a moment to admire the nature around you.

Beautiful building, great staff and amazing views. Worth checking the website to see what is on before you go though.

Lopdell House is Titirangi's historic cultural heart and its functions go far beyond an art gallery. I've been here on school trips doing art workshops in the dank basement. I've been to plays in the theatre by the Titirangi Theatre Company. My favourite thing to do here is to ride the elevator; vintage and beautiful with a pull-across iron gate. Even just popping in to the cafe to soak up the atmosphere is worthwhile. Unfortunately none of us will be doing much of anything at Lopdell House for the next little while as Auckland Council treats it to a much-needed makeover including serious structural work and a whole new adjacent building. In the meantime the gallery and theatre are operating out of temporary spaces in New Lynn. We can look forward to this grand old lady that started life as a hotel, reopening rejuvenated and hopefully being around for many years to come.

A great new gallery building next to the lovely Lopdell House. Amazing architecture & veiws along with cool contemporary art exhibitions. A great reason to head west! Stop on the way to tbe beach.

Lovely contemporary gallery in the beautiful suburb of Titirangi. Interesting local art exhibits in a contemporary gallery space. Checked it out on our drive back to Auckland from Karekare. Glad we stopped. The views are stunning.
