The Essential Guide to Osaka, Japan

"Set in Nagai Botanical Garden, the nighttime open-air museum is a surreal experience of LED creatures dancing in the trees, lanterns suspended over the lake, and translucent orbs glowing in rainbow colors; the exhibit—meant to demonstrate humankind’s deep relationship with nature—is worth visiting in every season and I’d plan to spend an hour or two getting lost in the magic." - Kim Kay Kim Kay Kim Kay is a freelance writer with a focus on Japan travel and culinary culture. teamLab arrives in Kyoto with largest museum in Japan

"I described the night-time teamLab Botanical Garden in Osaka as a project where the art is dependent on the surrounding nature and the park it occupies, deliberately engaging with its natural setting." - Karen Fong

this place is really not bad at night. there was various different spots of light such that you wouldn't feel bored, it ranges from colourful trees to some kind of eggs to a small light show in the forest. I feel like the Tokyo one is maybe better tho.. but this is still something decent. the place was relatively big, I would recommend to go to this place with a group of friends. I would say that this place is very good for dates and pictures! it is a 10 minute walk away from the station too, so it's convenient. there was also relaxing music playing which fits the ambience.

This was my very first time visiting teamLab Botanical Garden in Osaka, and it truly exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I entered, I was completely mesmerized by the fusion of nature and digital art. The glowing installations, interactive lights, and serene atmosphere made me feel like I had stepped into another world. It’s amazing how the art blends so harmoniously with the natural landscape — it felt both peaceful and exciting at the same time. The nighttime setting adds an extra level of wonder, with lights responding to movement and sound in the most beautiful way. Each section of the garden offered something different to explore, and I loved taking my time to walk through and soak it all in. You can tell a lot of thought and creativity went into every detail. As someone who loves both nature and art, this was the perfect combination. I highly recommend visiting, whether you’re an art lover, photographer, or just looking for something unique to do in Osaka. I’ll definitely be coming back again — it’s an unforgettable experience! The best time I would recommend it during the sunset time. Make sure you reserve the tickets for this team lab.

TeamLab’s garden in Osaka feels quite different from the ones in Tokyo, so if you enjoyed those, this is definitely worth visiting too. It’s an amazing experience, especially since it’s outdoors under the open sky, and you can capture some really great photos. The only downside was that they mentioned there wasn’t a set route, but that wasn’t entirely true—one of the paths was one-way, so we had to backtrack to fully enjoy it without being blinded by the light projections.

This place felt like it was designed for influencers. The lighting was nice and made for great photos, but overall it came off as basic and lacked sophistication. It felt a bit overhyped for what it actually delivered. That said, we did enjoy the night walk with all the lights, which was the highlight . Still, for the cost, it did not quite live up to the expectations. Worth a visit if you are into photo ops, but not much beyond that.

I loved the teamLab Botanical garden, I did find it a bit shorter than I expected. Nonetheless the first part was super rad and I really took my time through the first few exhibits and I’m really glad I did. They are more immersive and interactive than the final exhibits. Again I loved the experience and would totally go again.

Quite a nice experience but too dark to really take good photos of people - face cannot see. So it’s more an experience and enjoying the environment. I think the Tokyo ones are better though.

Pretty underwhelmed by the whole thing. Photos look better than the real thing. Arrived just ahead of opening and then queued for 30 minutes to get in. It claims the art is interactive but quite a lot of it isn’t. It was pretty busy so lots of people around and feels like you’re walking through it in a precession. They claim you’re free to roam but lots of it is roped off and you’re channelled through a particular route. The best bit was bouncing through and into the big inflatable ‘eggs’, they were fun. The music played throughout it relaxing. If it was a fair bit quieter then I’d probably give it 4 stars.

An incredible installation art exhibit. Incredible walk through nature, interactive light pieces, meditative… And then at the end you accidentally can walk through the museum and get a whole extra art experience. Truly incredible.
