Teapot Dome Historical Site

It's a political expression, roadside attraction, and very unique 1920's gas station. Parking is free and restrooms are clean. Also there is a fallen firefighters memorial and a veterans memorial to also see at this location.

This was a neat little place to visit. Great local history. There is a little park there and bathrooms. Stop and take some pics. I'm a little tea pot in the picture. Lol

Was on an adventure to Yakima Washington and decided to stop by this place and check it out and it is a really cool place.. The teapot Dome was a gas station back in the day and there's a really nice memorial for the Fallen Firefighters to play tribute to as well.. Check it out for yourself

3 minute detour off the highway. Cute little spot with a fallen firefighters memorial next to it. Has a playground next to it as well and dirty outdoor bathrooms with real sinks and toilets as well as a trash can. If this information was helpful, I would appreciate a quick like. Thank you!

Certainly worth the stop if you are passing through. Plenty of space to park. I was able to stop in while towing a 30 ft camper. Rest rooms on site. A fire fighter memorial is also on site. Great place to stop for a picnic lunch. The lawn is well manicured. Geo coorindinates 46.404669, -120.269553

The Teapot Dome Service Station I either got from Atlas Obscura or a book called Weird Washington but I can't entirely be sure but this place has been on my bookmark list forever and finally got to go to it while on vacation. It's Yelp classification of Local Flavor fits the bill precisely! Historical and unusual this tea pot dome service station was actually a functioning one at one point in time and the building has been kept up and maintained perfectly so it looks quite pristine! Antique gas pumps are nearby to admire, a pic nic table and a memorial nearby. Admission is free and the day I was here I visited with a very congenial gentleman about the nearby area and took some info home about the building and the area. Definitely a cute place to stop! The attraction isn't anything that would be too terribly time consuming to stop at and a good place to stretch your legs and enjoy a service station of the past.

I need place to visit good picture kids loved it a little history we made it nice. It was only a mile off the interstate.

For anyone who appreciates history, architecture, scandal and the Venn diagram where all of them overlap, the historic Teapot Dome service station in Zillah, Washington is for you! Located on the main drag in downtown Zillah, this iconic structure is both hard to miss and a poignant reminder that if you are an elected official and do something dumb, it will probably be memorialized forever... Perhaps in the form of an old gas station! Harding was rocked by some illegal activity where leases to drill for oil were granted inappropriately. One such place was in teapot dome, Wyoming... Hence the name. Wouldn't you know, those rascals in Zillah, Washington were on the ball and constructed this novelty gas station as a reminder of the past and to give your kids something fun to look at when you would stop for gas. Unfortunately, this place doesn't have active pumps anymore, but they do use it as a welcome center for the community. There's a nice little parking lot out front, some restrooms if you need to stop, and plenty of opportunity for a picture that will remind you of those clever people down in Zillah! Also, I can imagine architects may appreciate all that goes into a place like this. At present, I don't have a good enough appreciation for the complexities of architecture to know whether not this place is a masterpiece or a piece of crap. Either way, it looks like something out of a nursery rhyme and is unique in the service stations that I have ever been privy to. If you're going through the area, it's worth taking a three minute detour to go see this place!

This is a quirky road trip photo opportunity if you are ever going to Yakima. It used to be a gas station but now has tourist information inside the tea pot. There is free parking at this rest stop with clean bathrooms. It is located across the street from the cemetery and it is also next to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial which is touching and beautiful. Even if the tourist information is closed inside it is still a great place to stop by and get a photo.

Such an awesome place to read about the history about this teapot. If your a history person, I would recommend for you to take the drive. Seeing the dome and the restrooms was pretty cool.

Cool little historic site, takes no time to stop by and check it out if you're nearby. Very cool.

Quirky spot for some quick pictures as well as a visit to the war memorials on location. While unusual, wouldn't recommend driving too far out of your way to see it. It's maybe a 5-10 minute stop, but if you're in the area, it may be worth it if you also need a bathroom break as clean restrooms are available at the site too.

When driving along the boring, dreary, and roadkill infested I-82, the Teapot Dome Service Station, is a nice diversion. I'd always sneak a peak at it when driving by, but I'd never stop on by (until the other day). This is a direct manifestion of a bygone time. A time when gas was under $2, and when funky buildings were built to lure in drivers. The gas pumps are frozen at $1.79. The Teapot no longer whistles. But if you are driving through the Yakima Valley, this is a memorable place to take a gander at.

Cute little tourist stop next to the Firemen's Memorial. The "teapot" was closed. It seems to be a little gift shop now. They provide clean bathrooms, ample parking.

Cool, Cool little piece of History, I don't know if I'd make a Long trip just to see it but if you are passing by on Interstate 82 it is well worth a pit stop. Only open inside on Saturdays but its still fun to check it out. Inside actually has a few novelty items for sale (Shirts, Postcards, Hats, Coins, etc.) There appears to be a computer monitor of the history set up in its new location (which also has a small parking lot and Public restrooms) but the computer wasn't working the day I was there. This little gem of a Service Station was built in 1922, located at 117 First Ave in the small little town of Zillah, Washington (Approximately 10 miles from Yakima) It is a great example of novelty architecture and is listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Stop by if you're in the Area, not to many little historical items like this left. As John F Kennedy once said........"We would like to live as we once lived, but history will not permit it."

Cleanest rest stop in zillah. I've been coming here since I was a kid before they moved it to the new location. Pretty cool little landmark if you have the time to stop in and check it out.

Looks aestheticly pleasing. Being there for more than 6 minuets is just flat out boring and the teapot is Never open so I would only go just to pee in the bathrooms. So not to fun for the kids except if its for a bathroom break cuz that the ONLY useful thing there

This place is really cute! I really wanted to go out and see this, but I couldn't convince my friend to drive there unless we had something else to look at. So we visited the dinosaurs in Granger too! The old pumps are really neat and it's something to see at least once. :)

Love quirky things, this is definitely one. Found it via an app. This service station is a reminder of the Teapot Dome Scandal that rocked the presidency of Warren G. Harding and sent Interior Secretary Albert Fall to prison for his role in leasing government oil reserves. Originally built in US Route 12, when Interstate 82 was constructed near Zillah the station was relocated less than a mile down the Yakima Valley Highway. It was purchased by the city in 2007, rehabilitated, and relocated in 2012 to 117 First Avenue. If you are passing the area, then visit it for a pic at least.

"yeah, the teapot dome scandal's one of the few things i remember from u.s. history," my beau offers as i let him know the history of the teapot dome. i just love that there's a sign for it on the freeway, but no signage once you've exited - so if you missed it driving by, you're just wandering lost around zillah.

I just wanted to let every one know that the Tea Pot has been moived in to the town of Zillah. You take the exit where the McDonalds is and drive thought town it will be on the right. It is fix up really nice and has bathroom so it a nice place to stop and stretch.

The existence of and preservation of this little, teapot shaped gas station surprises me. I understand the name comes from a scandal in president Harding's administration more than 90 years ago. It is nice to see along the road as you drive along I-82 but even better to look at or stop at on the frontage road.

Giant red-and-white teapot buiding! How often do you see that? I loved it when I was a kid, sixty years ago, and my kids loved it too. How cool that it's still here! You have to stop at least once, just so you can say you've been there.
