Teatro al Massimo

Very interesting & highly recommended Palermo activity. I found it to be much more imposing that Milan's Scala.

The Teatro al Massimo is the largest theatre in Italy and the third largest theatre in Europe. We did the English Tour for 10 Euros. Beautiful theatre. Our guide was not good but I would still recommend it to see the lovely interior.

I already visited it last year, and I came back, it’s a beautiful place, the biggest of Italy, 3rd biggest from Europe, the inside is incredible, just get a ticket at the desk to have a tour, they have different language speaking guide and the tour is 30 min

The Teatro al Massimo originally known as Cineteatro al Massimo is a theater in Palermo located in the historic center in the Seralcadio district.The name derives from the location of the theater which is located in the same square as the Teatro Massimo. The theater was designed by the architect Giovan Battista Santangelo, who came from the Basile school, and was completed in 1924. The patrons of the cineteatro were the Biondo family, the same clients of the homonymous theater, a bourgeois entrepreneurial family that animated the social life of the city between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The cineteatro saw its maximum splendor until the second. There is a clear inspiration to contemporary European themes especially Parisian, the style is that of Art Nouveau. The structure is quite simple in form, quadrangular base, the entrance is placed on a corner of the structure, echoing the simple form the windows placed on each side filled with a grid. Inside the audience is on two levels, the upper tribune consists of a fairly simple game of load-bearing beams that also recalls Art Nouveau. In the rotunda of the south or Pompeian room, the room originally reserved only for men, you can see a very particular resonance effect, specially obtained by the architect through a slight asymmetry of the room, such that those who are in the exact center of the room have the perception of hearing their voice amplified out of all proportion, while in the rest of the environment the resonance is enormous and such that it is impossible to understand from outside the rotunda what is dictated????? 🤔

My husband purchased tickets to an event and he made and unfortunately we cannot attend the event and they are refusing to refund him or allow him to resell the tickets. Terrible service

Touring the Teatro Massimo was my favorite site during my visit of Palermo. The tour included the front-of-stage and back-stage areas with the roof terrace "add-on." You need to reserve ahead, so make this one of your first stops in the morning. You may want to keep an eye on the booking office to be there when it opens at 10am and be at the head of the queue. You'll then return at 1:15 for the 1:30 tour which takes an hour. We visited the public areas, royal box, orchestra, stage, backstage and the best part, an elevator ride to the top of the theater where you climb a short ladder to the roof terrace. Along the way, our guide (in English and Italian) pointed out special areas, features and history of this, the second largest in Italy and the third largest in Europe. (Your yardstick of measuring may vary.) Officially named Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele, it opened in 1897 and has since seen a number of operas and performances. The theater is noted for having perfect acoustics. You might also notice where the final scenes of The Godfather Part III were filmed if that's something you're in to. Today was a perfectly clear day and from the terrace (15 or 20 minutes to look around!) you could see for ten miles at least. An amazing view of the city. The roof tour is limited to a very small group because everyone has to be able to fit into the elevator together. So there were only six of us plus the tour guide for the sixty second ride to the top. A wonderful experience and I loved every minute of it. [Review 12842 overall, 157 of 2020.]

Located at the center of Piazza Verdi, Teatro Massimo is the largest theater in Italy located in Palermo. Although I have never taken a tour of the inside of this theater, the architecture is stunning with clear inspiration from both Greek and Sicilian elements. If you find yourself in Palermo, this building will be hard to miss. Whether you walk by the theater in the day or at night time, it is certainly something to marvel at. In the summer, I believe they offer pop up shows for just a few euro, so check out their schedule online if you are visiting during the summer months. FYI - if you're looking the spend the entire day in the area, there are a ton of shops and eateries nearby.

I came here for a tour in the afternoon and I timed it so I only had to wait a few minutes. It was around 8 euros. There weren't enough people so they combined tours so they did an Italian and English tour at the same time. I'd say it lasted around 30 minutes. And it was a pretty great tour where we saw the practice room, boxes, walked on the main floor. They talked a lot about the history of the building and Italy in general. Being one of the oldest theatres in Europe made it extra interesting! It's a beautiful theatre, for sure but I wouldn't say you HAVE to visit. I actually wanted to watch a show while I was here, but didn't end up having time and most of the shows I saw weren't in English, which would've been fine.

The Teatro Massimo Vittorio is an opera house located on the Piazza Verdi at the end of the Via Maqueda. It is dedicated to King Victor Emanuel II. It is the biggest in Italy, and one of the largest in all of Europe. They offer guided tours and I would suggest you take one. We were there in the off season so it was not crowded and it was easy to get a tour.

Our experience was everything you would expect from a premier opera house. The interior is beautiful. We sat in row 14 and had a good view from the comfortable red suede arm chairs. I would avoid the seats rimmed around the wall of the theater, but otherwise the size of the theater leaves most seats just fine. The troupe and the orchestra were of stellar caliber. It was a lovely evening.

If you are in Palermo this is a place that is worth seeing. The size of the theatre is amazing and the construction is great. Very detailed inside and out. The tour isn't the greatest, but it does get you inside to see everything if you can't attend an opera. We had some pretty crappy American tourists on our tour who felt like they were entitled to always be first to see and do everything. It would be nice to see them make selfie sticks against the rules as well. But it is a beautiful place to visit and I wish we had been able to attend the opera the week following our visit.
