Teatro Colon is a unique building that deserves a visit in itself. Comparable to the Opera Garnier in Paris, the building has unique details that will amaze you every time. However, the quality of its spectacles is the jewel of its story. From opera to ballet, ancient music or experimental, performers and performances are chosen with excellent criteria, from my point of view. In all the different spaces where performances are held, acoustics are privileged creating an experience absolutely unique. I wish for you to attend to one of its performances in you near future. Look for them!

This Theatre by far stands as one of the best architecture art in the world. The theatre is even better than that of Garnier Palace, of Paris in my opinion. From seating, to classic environment, acoustics and the artistic architecture of the stage and the balconies. The sealing is another wonder and the atmosphere was amazing. Great experience for the theater built in 1908. I do recommend the tour if you have 1 hour to spend. It's a nice mix of history and time for taking pictures of different areas of the theater. This includes going into one of the balconies as well. I suggest purchasing tickets in advance. We walked up and had to get tickets that were for 2 hours later.

Visited here as part of a guided tour. There aren’t many tours in English, and their timings didn’t suit my tight schedule, so I opted for a tour in Spanish. Although I couldn’t fully understand the narrative, I fully appreciated the stunning architecture, stained glass, statues etc. Everyone talks about the amazing acoustics, so the tour left me wanting to return to see a performance.

Absolutely stunning interior! One of the most beautiful theaters I have ever been too. We went to the Nutcracker. Fantastic performance! Make sure you get seats in the main ground floor sala, not the balconies/camarotes since they don’t offer a complete full view of the stage

Phenomenal architecture and detailing. The tourist worth it. Lasts about an hour. You get a good history and peak into the extravagance of the place, and we even got to see some singers performing their examination in box seats! Totally worth it.

We pulled up to the theater at 10 AM and there was a huge line outside. My husband got online and I walked inside and got on another line. I was able to purchase English tour tickets for a 50 minute tour at noon for $18 each. By the time we got back at noon, the line was out the door and down the block. There is a beautiful coffee shop, restaurant and gift shop here. I was able to find a special opera gift. It was listed in 1,000 places to see before you die, so here we are! The Teatro Colon is considered one of the best theaters in the world. It is acknowledged for its acoustics and the artistic value of its construction, it turned 100 years in 2008. This grand theater (circa 1908) known for acoustics hosts classical music, operas, ballets & tours. Camille, our guide whisked us through this enormous, ornate , air conditioned theater. She pointed out a lot of information we would have missed had we done this on our own..

Such a spectacular place. We took the 3 pm tour (English) having purchased tickets online ahead of time. While they run around 30 tours a day, with 30-40 people per tour, it's a super popular activity so plan accordingly. The tour cost around $17 and last around 50 minutes which was the perfect amount of time to see the building and take plenty of pictures. Our English speaking guide Rosario did an excellent job explaining the history and highlighting the features of this impressive structure home to opera, symphony and ballet during the March-December season. After seeing it I can only imagine what a treat it would be to attend a performance in the building which seats around 2,500 plus offers 500 standing-room-only slots up in the upper reaches. Find an hour during your travels to see this place-it's truly one of a kind beautiful.

The Teatro Colón Theater is a gem! I highly recommend a visit here. We visited the Teatro in October 2024. We chose to see a musical performance rather than to take the tour due to limited time. I now wish that we had done both - seen the performance and done the tour. This place is that grand and ornate. No expense was spared when this building was designed and constructed. Marble, gilding, artwork, stained glass, there is everything to marvel at here. The staff members were all extremely courteous and helpful. Comfortable seating in the theater. Wonderful acoustics. Clean restroom facilities. I could go on and on about the Teatro Colón. Please visit here if you get the chance to do so while you are in Buenos Aires, Argentina. You will be very happy that you visited! And take lots of photos too.

You must, must go to this if you are in BA. It is an absolutely stunning building. I literally gasped when I saw the interior. We got $6 tickets (standing) to the Carmina Burana ballet with a live orchestra. Amazing.

stunning and gorgeous theater. don't hesitate to visit! I saw a classical piano concert that was fantastic, but the theater shared top billing with the performance. it's so beautiful everywhere, not just the concert hall but the lobby, entries and outside plaza. I will take a tour next time. not to be missed!

Not subtle at all. This place is so over the top, so incredible, so amazing- they spared no expense, overlooked no detail. This palace to the arts is an amazing spot. You can take a tour of the place before you go to a performance. They offer tickets in the basement at the rear. The whole thing was built from materials from Italy, and designers from Europe. The ceilings have more attention to detail than anything I've ever seen- frescoes covered in chandeliers! They're even guilded. The stained glass windows and marble statuary are museum quality. The whole theater is intimate and designed so that it is such a primo place to go. Every inch of this theater is a masterpiece in itself. No expense was spared. We took a guided tour, which lasted under an hour, took us through the different salons, entryway, and up those grand stairs, where we got to peek in on the crew setting up for the next showing. The place is grand and simply amazing- the pinnacle of architecture in Buenos Aires. The most beautiful building in the entire southern hemisphere?

A simple review - just pay and take the tour. You won't be disappointed. It is an amazing place.

This is a must see when you are in Buenos Aires. The building itself is from the early 1900s and was painstakingly redone in the last 10 years. The tours are about 160 pesos Argentinian and well worth it. They take you through all the waiting areas and common areas and into the theater itself. Supposedly some of the tours take you down into the wardrobe and costume areas as well if there are operas or things going on during that time frame. This is supposed to be and acoustically perfect, or nearly so, venue for hearing musical events. We can tell you that the ticket ordering and pick up process is that it is very slow and not very well-run. Even if you order tickets online if you get here past 1015 or 1030 in the morning you will be waiting a very long time in line to pick up the tickets.

To be honest, I would not have stopped in, but since the temperature outside was close to the surface of the Sun, we decided it was a great time to drop in! The tickets for the tour are roughly $15 USD. With it, you get a scenic, guided tour of the theatre ... and more importantly air conditioning. The theatre is beautiful and grand. The decoration is lavish and preserved. It was a real treat for the eyes. Highly suggest going if you have time... don't need to be a fan of the opera to appreciate this historic building.

If you're into the performing arts, this is a great experience! I myself am not big into performance arts, plays, etc. However, I went with a tour back in 2015 and saw a play. I really enjoyed the architecture and history of the place. I recommend bringing a wide angle lens to capture some cool shots and also getting a tour.

When I lived in Argentina, a Porteno (local native) told me that I have not seen Buenos Aires until I've seen Teatro Colon. He was right!! Teatro Colon is ranked on par with the world's best opera houses such as Palais Garnier of Paris, Teatro Alla Scala of Milan, and the Vienna State House. Teatro Colon reflects the era in the early 1900s when Argentina used to be one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Old money, European immigration from France and Italy, and the ostentatious opulence that was once the Paris of Latin America before political corruption and dictatorship took over the country. The opera house is truly beautiful and grandiose! 7 stories, boxes, and a stage that permeates world class acoustics. Whether it's an opera or symphony show you want to watch, or take a tour of the opera house as a tourist, make sure you make a stop at Teatro Colon. My Argentine friend was right! You truly have not seen Buenos Aires until you've seen Teatro Colon.

This is a beautiful cultural site in Argentina. To start the outside of the theatre is impressive, however the inside is positively breathtaking. I saw an opera (Los Cuentos de Hoffmann) here and it was an amazing production with fantastic sets (with massive projections and a rotating stage), wonderful costumes, and talented performers. During my show I also got food during intermission (little sandwiches) and they were surprisingly really good. If you do get food or drinks I recommend going quickly to beat the lines.

Teatro Colón is Buenos Aires' main opera house, which recently (well, in 2010) reopened after being renovated for four years. Both the exteriors and the interiors are absolutely beautiful, and I totally recommend purchasing tickets (or checking the city website to see if there's any free shows available) or taking the tour. I'd recommend getting a local to buy the tour tickets, since there's a discount for residents, but I'm unsure whether this covers the English tour, or just the Spanish ones. I think the English tours are less frequent than the Spanish ones as well, so if you only wanna take some pictures either one works. The information given throughout the tour is interesting but nothing you can't learn online. I haven't had the pleasure to stay for a show (I actually got tickets once, gave them to my mother so we could go in together when we met, but she went in with both tickets by herself without waiting for me... SMFH) but I've heard nothing but amazing reviews about the acoustics. Next time I'll definitely hold my own ticket! Do consider the tour if you're in Buenos Aires, specially if you're into taking beautiful pictures and feeling like the city indeed does have a little bit of European charm left still.

I regularly visit this theater in Buenos Aires when I can. Considered as one of best buildings for opera in the world, the Colón Theatre in Buenos Aires is internationally renowned for its acoustics and its heritage value, showcasing the Italian and French influence on cultural architecture in Argentina. It is situated in a privileged location of the city´s downtown, between the streets Cerrito, Viamonte, Tucumán, and Libertad. The Colón operated in two different buildings: it was first located in front of Plaza de Mayo between the years 1857 to 1888, it was then moved in front of Plaza Lavalle, where one of the city´s most important railway stations was located. The Italian architect, Francesco Tamburini, completed the initial designs for the current theater in 1980. However, after his death in 1981, the plans were modified and construction began under his partner, architect Víctor Meano. Four years prior to the theatre´s inauguration, Meano was murdered and the completion of the project was taken over by the Belgian architect Jules Dormal. In 1989, the Colón Theatre was declared a "Historic National Monument" and between the years of 2006 to 2010 the building underwent a process of extensive conservation maintenance and technological modernization, which was carried out by Argentinean heritage specialists and technicians. The building showcases an eclectic style from the beginning of the twentieth century. It has a total surface area of 58,000 meters squared. The main room is shaped in the form of an Italian horseshoe: its small diameter measures 29.25 meters, and its large diameter reaches 32.65 meters with a high of 28 meters. It has a capacity of 2,478 seats and can fit up to 3,000 including those standing.

Ranked as one of the top 10 opera houses in the world, I can officially say I've been to 5 out of 10, with this one being ranked highest. So pretty, it almost reminds me of Palais Garnier, but smaller perhaps. It's best to come at night and during the day, there's definitely a difference. If you do see an evening show, plan ahead because it's always sold out. A day tour last about an hour and cost USD14. They have both english and spanish, but english tends to sell out faster.

One of the most magnificent Opera/Symphony house in the world. The twice a day 50 minutes English tour is a must. The morning tour is a bit cheaper than the afternoon one. Tried to book it online but was not successful and had to line up early to get the tickets. The tickets usually ran out in the early afternoon.

There a only a few places that you can truly call wonders. Places that you must visit before you die. Places that are of such historical or architectural prominence that NOT going there makes your life a little less full. Teatro Colon is one of those places. Located in the beautiful city of Buenos Aires. The turn of the century building sits prominently in downtown. Built in the late 1800s and early 1900s this is a unique and historic place for the arts. Just the outside is of exquisite design, but just wait to you enter inside.... When you enter you feel like you have walked into another world. The stained glass, gilded sculptures and bright colors welcome you to experience whatever performance is awaiting you tonight. Its also not just another pretty face. The Teatro was built specially to enhance its acoustics. The night I was there they were having a piano concerto and NO microphones were needed. Even in the mid level seats the music comes through loud and clear. The Teatro is built in a way really there are not bad seats, as it is not a huge theater, even seats in the upper areas in the back still feel close and intimate. This was my first visit there and while I have seen more than a few performances in my life, just experiencing this place is entertainment itself. They do offer tours of the Teatro, but think if you really want to experience how magnificent this place really is buy tickets to a show, opera, concerto, whatever and see if for yourself. So if you are visiting Buenos Aires make this #1 on your list of places to visit!!!

This place was absolutely beautiful. While I am not an opera lover, I do enjoy touring different opera houses. This one is actually one offers some of the best acoustics in the world after Paris, La Scala in Milan and Budapest. Again, different readings say different things but for South America, this is the place to listen to the operas. However, since I realize this is mostly for tourists since you are on yelp, I'll tell you what it's like from a tourist perspective. The lobby area and public areas are absolutely beautiful. I'm sure you could tell from the photographs even here that this place is magnificent to tour. They also take you and allow you to go into some boxes. The one box that you want to try out is immediately over the stage and on the right side as you face the stage. This is where every president since and even a Eva Peron has been there! If those walls could talk! All in all, definitely go and visit this place as it is magnificent. Put at the top of your list while in Buenos Aires!

Teatro Colón (Spanish: Columbus Theatre) is the main opera house in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is ranked the third best opera house in the world by National Geographic, and is acoustically considered to be amongst the five best concert venues in the world.

It's a beautiful theater! If you can take the English tour take it. Even if you from a Spanish speaking country I would take the English tour. The group will be smaller and more personalized. Since it is smaller the person gives you a little more detail of the theater.

This place was absolutely beautiful and this history behind it is even more amazing. My favorite part about the place is the design and architecture. Inside the main opera hall the floors are hollow so that sound can echo but the theres heavy drapes so that the echo isn't over powering. The attention to detail of the interior design is impeccable and the interior is almost make out of solid marble.

Was here once many years ago back in 2004. Very elegant opera house. Booths are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is excellent. In BsAs, they take opera quite seriously so you'll get excellent quality vocalists here.

Beautiful theater known for excellent acoustics. I saw an opera here and the music was wonderful. I bought tickets for only about 320 pesos, about $10 USD for seats all the way on top - well worth it!

Love the contemporary ballet tonight. The theatre was awesome and the sound system was really good. I just wished that they didn't have that much narration in Spanish cuz I couldn't understand a word!! And the usher didn't give me a program and line-up brochure. When I went to ask for one, she didn't sound too friendly!

My family and I went to see a Disney concert and were pleasantly surprised to see that it also had singing and dancing. Was very nice and both me and my sister enjoyed throughly. The seats were nothing great, but weren't bad either. The concert was well done and I would definitely go back to see another one.

This place is GLORIOUS. Take a tour during the day, and make sure you watch an opera at night. Magestic and powerful- you won't be dissapointed!

Great 45 minute tour. My notes follow. They have free or super cheap admission for shows on some evenings. all materials for the theater are produced in 3 subterranean levels below public-private partnership took 18 years to build, completed 1908 Spiritual world of the arts - theater is raised  Their use of mirrors in the Teatro and retail throughout the City is amazing. cite the photo restored for 7 years, completed in  2010 best acoustics for Opera in the world according to who, I have no idea. For Orchestra: vienna,  Boston and then Teatro Colon 2800 person capacity w over 300 SRO 7 levels with the top called Hen house 28 meter high auditorium, 40 meters for the stage

Beautiful theater modeled after the renowned Palais Garnier/Paris Opera House (including Salon area), but smaller scale. Even though the venue can hold ~2,500-3,000 patrons, we were only able to get standing-only tickets in the very top/back row on the day of. The theater uses the architectural acoustics only, so no audio amplifiers/microphones, which made the sound a little softer in the back. They offer 50-minute tours daily in English and Spanish, which were ironically more expensive than our standing tickets for the opera. Be warned, the English tour sells out early, so buy the tickets, at minimum, the day before. Some notes: the theater has 3 entrances, check their website for details. I definitely recommend going to see a show there to get the full experience of the theater, especially since everything looks different at night.

Be careful when you buy tickets with cards. We were double charges and then perpetually lied to that we will get our money back by in person interaction. When we called ofcourse there was never a response. Three times we went to the ticket office and every time a new story came to make us leave in false hope that we will get our money back. Now 5 days after the transaction the transaction has been finalized at the false amount and we have been robbed literally and also lied too. Be careful, sad to see scamming from this place.

Tour of Colon was a disappointment. The $20 tour took about 55 minutes and toured public areas only. The tour guide spoke English very well and was easily understandable. The guide highlighted the construction history and materials used. There was a band rehearsing for a concert which we were permitted to observe for a few minutes, which highlighted the acoustics the Colon is deservedly famous for. BUT, no visit to behind the stage area, or a highlighting of the changes and improvements made while closed for renovation. If not for being able to briefly sit in on the rehearsal it would have been a one star rating. The tour simply doesn't do justice to one of the great opera houses of the world.

The English tour of the building is worth it to see. At the time we went, each ticket costs 600 ARS. For pictures only and if you don't understand Spanish, the Spanish tours are available for the same price. The architecture is amazing.

Seemingly plucked from Italy and dropped in Buenos Aires, Teatro Colon is an architectural marvel. While I didn't get to partake in the tour, I was lucky enough to see Don Giovanni while in one of the low level boxes. This was one of the highlights of my trip and is not to be missed. The acoustics of the building are second to none and the attention to detail throughout the building is unparalleled. There is a small cafe for use during intermission, and while packed, the line moved shockingly quickly.
