Katla gave me a warm welcome yesterday afternoon. About 10 minutes walk from the Centrum. Grim and gritty early industrial site which survived the rocks rockslide of 2020. Neighboring buildings were swept into the harbor. Here, machinists forged iron implements and maintained the village's precious machinery. There is also a fine display of village life during the WW2 occupation by British and Amrrican troops. This site had the first telegraph in Iceland. Although this communication equipment is now in storage, it will be on display at the new museum which is under construction.

Nice little museum, currently (2025) recovering from a landslide. Signage is in Icelandic and English, audio is mostly in Icelandic.

Very engaging exhibition of the technical advances of Seyðisfjörður. Despite half of the museum being destroyed by a landslide it's totally worth a visit. You can learn to morse there.

For the price of a beer in the local bar yiu can spend a nice hour here, looking at all the old stuff. Could use more signs and english translations though. All the printing presses still work and are in actual use. The map making machine is impressive, first I've ever seen.

Museum about an original ship repair workshop with old dusty original tools and forge still inplace. The genius owner harnested the mechanical power of the nearby water stream to power most of his tools and later generate electricity for lighting and arc welding with a turbine directly within the workshop.
There are also many old machines (printing presses, dentist station, hydro power control station, ...) from the 40s to the 60s in the main hall of the museum.
