Iconic place, keeping the blues alive. If it looks like it's not open, walk in and meet Teddy, a great fella with lots of wisdom to share. The one of a kind atmosphere deserves a full house. Support local folks!

If you want to enjoy yourself at a real Juke Joint. Teddy's is the place to go. It was about 5 people with our birthday party. Drinks was great, the band did a excellent choice in music. As they say, Old School but with a Class. It's strictly Adults only.

We went to Teddy's Juke Joint based on many website recommendations. I'm not sure how recently they've reviewed their list of venues or been there. It was absolutely terrible. We were scared. It's in the middle of nowhere. It is quite run down. We were the only ones there. It smelled dusty like an antique shop. The seats were busted. The floor was plywood in poor condition. There was no food. Sanitation was questionable. Teddy creepily stood by our table the whole time talking about conspiracy theories. The artist, Dixie Rose, was amature as best and talked to a YouTube audience the entire time in between playing. We left as soon as was polite because we were so remarkably uncomfortable.

Love this place Teddy and Nancy are very interesting and wonderful host. Truly a great experience. I recommend if you are looking for a true juke joint you have to visit his place. Oh, we had Bloody Mary's, very good !

Awful! Their website clearly says "all ages" but as soon as we got there the old lady at the counter told us (we were a group of 4) that minors weren't allowed (there were two minors in our group). We pointed that there was a sign inside saying "All sizes, all colors, ALL AGES etc... " and that their website said all ages too but all she said was "I'm sorry, I'm sorry". Anyways the place was empty so not a big loss for me and my people (but a loss for them, they lost 4 clients and it didn't look like they were gonna get more). If you want a good juke joint go to Red's Lounge (at least they're honest over there). I put one star because that's the minimum, they don't even deserve that. It's completely misleading (and they're liars). Awful place.

Do yourself a favor and just GET THERE!!! I'm a true lover of the Blues and make a point to find all the hidden gems I can! This I found right here on Yelp & couldn't be happier I did!! This spot, Teddy himself, the decor, the location just all scream.... you're going to love it!!! I got there before the music started, got to visit with Teddy, hear the background of this beautiful establishment (the house Teddy was born in).... I will go back again & again!! Thank you Teddy for keeping the Blues alive in a this eclectic, beautiful place !!

Unique place to be, last "juke Joint " on the blues trail in the Deep South! Great atmosphere, Teddy DJ's music every night, live music also. Come experience a one of a lifetime place.

What a gem! My husband and I are visiting the area from MA and had a great time stopping by for drinks and visit with Teddy on a Sunday afternoon. Very cool spot with relaxed vibe and great music and memorabilia. If you're looking for eclectic, funky spot to hang out and chill, stop by Teddy's! Everyone is welcome. Highly recommend. Teddy is a legend not to be missed.

This place is an American treasure. I cannot recommend a visit to this place enough. It's one of the last five original blues joints on the old blues Highway. Full of culture and a tight group of friends, you can be sure to be entertained by music and banter. We showed up and we're the only people in there other than the owners and the band. Very intimate and they even fed us with the band. Wednesdays and Fridays are the days to go. Go out for a visit while you still have the opportunity.

Historic out of the way place to get a drink and listen to music. Teddy is a great host. Highly recommend!

This place has its own spot in the diverse cultural landscape of the south. Not exactly a tourist spot as it's tucked away off the side of the road, you kind of have to know where you're going to find it. Built behind the house where he grew up Teddy DJ's his own style of radio show for himself, his wife and whomever else is in earshot. The place is ordained with trinkets and stuff from the world over in this shrine to the blues that has been assembled here. His wife runs the bar and while we didn't order any food the night my wife and I were there, his wife made some pretty stiff drinks. The inside of his place is littered with pictures, memorabilia and even old TV's and sound systems of previous AV installs that were used and left abandoned in his own place. Sitting there with my wife he played some music we could dance to and other tunes we just wanted to sit back and reminisce the old times with. Only downside is there is a known speed trap just down the road from there they warned about when we left, so if you're going to go, have a designated driver who watches his foot on the pedal when you go home. Sadly enough many folks who live in the area have never been there or say that's too far away. Which makes Teddy's Juke Joint an even better place to escape to any day or night of the week.

If you are anywhere near Zachary this is a must visit place. It is literally a museum of blues in the area. The walls are filled with memorabilia from the artists who have passed through the doors--and there is lots and lots! Teddy is a warm hearted blues loving man filled with wonderful stories of people who have passed through his doors. Bands and people stop by to jam. It is like a step into the past and real juke joint--if the walls could talk oh what a story they would tell. Don't miss out on visiting this gem in Zachary.

Perhaps the only thing to do in Zachary, Louisiana after 9:00 p.m. that isn't illegal. Still, it is a great time. I would give them five stars if there wasn't a $15 cover charge. I would also go every weekend if there wasn't a $15 cover, but if you are prepared to shell out that money it is worth it when you get inside. It is actually a legitimate blues bar. Walking up, you may be scared. I drove past it hundreds of time before I was told it was actually safe to go inside. Walking up, don't worry they are very friendly and welcome everyone/anyone. Teddy is still around, inserting quirks into jukebox songs over the microphone from the back table and underneath a massive cowboy hat. He is also the elderly gentleman with a ring on every finger. You will most likely get a chance to chat with him at some point in the night, be prepared. We caught a Saturday night with "The Sharecroppers." They were a really good local blues band. $22 for a bucket of eight beers and cheap bar food- hamburgers, fries, onion rings, etc. After Teddy got done managing the music, it got handed over to the Sharecroppers who took over for the night. The atmosphere is complete dive bar with plywood floors and random junk hanging all over the bar. Cigarette smoke also fills the air, but that is Louisiana for you. If you settle back in a booth or head out in front of the band and dance- or both. If you are in the area and looking for real "local flavor" I would recommend it highly.

Gem of a juke joint! Teddy's is literally a local treasure and Teddy himself is a legend in his own right. The atmosphere is laid-back, friendly and very welcoming. Always dressed to impress, Teddy will sit with you at the bar and chat as long as you'll let him! After 38 years in business he's seen it all and seen just about everyone walk through his doors. He's very knowledgable about the blues and music in general so you're bound to learn something new talking to him. The juke joint itself is full of character, just like Teddy. A patchwork of old show posters from past acts cover the walls along with music memorabilia and gifts people have given Teddy over the years. It's really impossible to describe--you just have to see it for yourself. Everything on the wall or hanging from the ceiling has a story that Teddy is more than happy to tell! Neither pictures nor words due this place justice.... you really just owe it to yourself to check it out in person. Even if it's a slow night with only 5 people sitting at the bar you'll have an unforgettable experience. Authentic spots like this are getting harder to find, and big-money operations like casinos are making it harder for those that remain to stay in business. Whether you're a music lover or just like to meet interesting local legends, you'll enjoy a trip to Teddy's!

Oh Man.. was this a cute lil joint! We were coming back from a long vacation in NOLA and flying out of of Baton Rouge, and wanted to have one last hurrah! Before leaving, so we were looking for places to go and found this little hole in the wall. We met the guy who the place is named after, he is an amazing artist and musician. I really loved this place and wish it was here in Oregon!! It was someones birthday too, and everyone was so damn friendly! I ordered three of the chicken wings since they said they were out of Turkey wings and OMG! Can you say BIG! Soo good! DH got the dirty rice or the red beans and rice..looked good. Too bad I wasted the food because I left it in the fridge- but couldn't take it with. There is normally a cover charge here but there wasn't one on a Monday evening the house band was playing and were amazing! I would love to go back here and see some great acts.. but .. live here in Oregon.. where I enjoy home.. but if you have the time.. go here and experience some real southern music!

uhhhh, why have I never been to this place before!?* When driving up to this place we were a little wary because it is kinda set back in a field at the end of drive way. When the heavy air of the Louisiana summer is thick this place looks like it could be the next set of Dusk till' Dawn....but INSIDE is loud, rowdy and full of crap hanging from the ceiling, typical LA. On some nights Teddy is situated behind a temple-shrine-type thing, decked out with x-mas lights, police lights, and god know what else, Teddy rocks with his fantastic selection of song and scandalous ad-libbing.

This place is an American treasure and a roadside blue institution. A must visit if you're in Louisiana. Make sure to grab a drink with Teddy himself and coax some stories out of him (it won't take much work). The man is a regional blues icon and there should be a statue of him at the airport. If Patrick Swayze was still alive, I would write a sequel to Road House and film it here.

Magical! Once in a life time experience. Can't believe this place exists. Worth the drive from Baton Rouge to check it out.

Went to Teddy's last night with a friend, after several years of not being able to get out much at night due to illness in my family. SO glad I went. I didn't realize how much I had missed going there. The place, like Teddy, remains unchanged, magical and sassy, with fantastic music. It's an authentic juke joint -- fun and quirky. Friendly people, good food and drinks at reasonable prices. it's one of those places where the locals go for authenticity It is off the tourist track -- 100% real and unpretentious. That's why it's on so many people's lists of "best-kept secrets." I'm VERY disappointed to see people complaining about the $15 cover charge. If you pay $5 for a cup of coffee, don't complain about a $15 cover charge for top-notch live music. Teddy brings in amazing acts from all over the country. Music isn't free, although those people who download from the Internet without paying probably think it should be. I've managed two live music clubs. Not only do you have to pay for overhead -- how the heck are you supposed to pay a band? If a bluesman and his band and crew drive five hundred miles, and 100 people pay to see the show, that's $1500. Out of that goes a modest cut to the owner, and the band has to split the rest AND cover their travel costs. Stop complaining about $15 when an arena charges $90 for a third-tier nosebleed seat, for halfway decent performers who play a one-hour show if you're lucky. Teddy's is easy to find from the I -110 extension, and the Yelp map is accurate. Don't think you're lost when you find yourself on a dark country road -- you're not lost. It gets dark and rural on the way to the nearest town, Zachary. Don't blink or you'll miss Teddy's, on your left, just past the intersection of Heck Young Road. If you go so far as to reach an intersection with a gas station and drugstore, you've gone a little too far. Just turn around and go back a mile or so. By all means, eat while you're there. Don't forget to give a bit of your meat to Mama, the very cool blues kitty who hangs out on the patio.

No question...this is the real deal for the music lover. Forget the higher than average covers. What's $10-$20 when you are talking names like Lee, Neal, Gardner, Richard, Killerbee, Cooper, Turner, and on and on and on. These guys aren't there for the money. Trust me. The Joint is uniquely authentic....and Teddy...you cant beat Teddy. Like my best friend Steve Parker says..."Teddy just likes being Teddy."....and he's good at it. And eat there. Get the chicken wings w potatoe salad, or chicken tenders w red beans n rice. So if you are in for a major dose of culture, trust me, you will not regret. Easy 5 stars. The most incredible - inviting - historical and of course,amazing jazz music I have ever heard . If you have never experienced Teddy's it's def. an experience your missing out on. I'm blown away with the joint...

shhhh... I hate to let this cat out of the bag, probably the best kept secret in south Louisiana! Teddy's is the real deal, a juke joint that jukes ! This blues joint is much more than a jewel of a music venue, it is a living testament to one man's (and his dear wife, Nancy) love of music and life. Surprisingly untouristy and smoke free. I pray one of the cable networks does not discover this place and ruin it with a reality series, or do I? Just go!

What a experience !! At the top of our list for funky joints and the best blues ever !! Teddy and the Mrs. are wonderful host and hostesses. Forget the $15 cover !! Quit your bitchin. Costs that much to see a 1 1/2 hour movie. Sorry we didn't know about the food and had already eaten by the time we got there. Wish we could see some of the Pictures Teddy took that night since we didn't have a camera. Will just have to come back WITH a camera in tow !! Lovin the blues, Karen and Irena from OKLAHOMA
