"Ride One of the World's Highest Cable Cars For spectacular views of sprawling Quito, take a ride in the TelefériQo. This aerial lift, one of the highest in the world, takes you up the east side of Pichincha volcano, but don't worry, its active caldera is on the western side of the mountain! You'll rise over 3,200 feet in 10 minutes. In addition to hiking trails and lookout points, there are shops and cafés at the top. On a clear day, you can see 13 volcanoes. The most challenging hike from the top is the Volcano Route, going to the summit of the Rucu Pichincha volcano. Be warned the weather can change quickly, so wrap up warm and, ideally, go with a guide. Whether you're hiking or just snapping pics, consider going in the morning to avoid the crowds."

This attraction is absolutely worth a visit! 🌄 The entrance ticket is $9, followed by a scenic cable car ride to the top where the adventure really begins. The hike is serious, so be prepared with good shoes and some energy, but it’s incredibly rewarding. Along the way, you’ll find fun spots like a swing and several other unique surprises that make the journey even more enjoyable. Whether you go in the morning or evening, the views are stunning and the atmosphere is beautiful. A perfect mix of nature, activity, and a bit of thrill — highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable experience!

We came in right before closing was not planned, but it was the best time, barely any crowds, and the view of the sun setting was great. Head up, the swing is an extra climb, so if you're up for it, just be prepared a little for the hike. Shop around for coffee or snacks. For 9 dollars, it's an amazing price, especially for those views.

Beautiful views, and a fun 18-minute ride for $9 round-trip, less for Ecuadorian nationals. There are two cafes up top, and numerous hiking trails and viewpoints. Careful if you're prone to altitude sickness, the summit is at 12,000ft. Despite 70f degrees in town, it was much colder and quite windy on the mountain, so bring a jacket. I love that dogs are welcome, I rode up with a friendly beagle, and there is a dog park at the top as well!

I highly recommend taking the cable car up to the observation area and then taking the short hike up to the higher tourist point where they have a nice picture area. Be aware that you’re at over 14,000 feet and the air is very thin. Plan on stopping often even though the hike is short (Even our guide was huffing and puffing). However the photos from the top observation area are beautiful.

I was in a ropeway after so many years so was excited but then got nervous in the teleférico when it started. Nice u reach the top there is a beautiful hike that u can take. They have trails that lead u too beautiful views of the city in one side and mountains on the other. There are swings, a chapel, pet friendly environment and little cafes and restaurants. The views from here are breathtaking. There are also horses available so that you can continue ur trek further in the mountains where u can camp as well.

reasonable price with fantastic vista. The cable runs slowly and you'll have choices to hike the mountains or just enjoy the cappuccino. I did both.

What a great way to see the entire city and spend time enjoying nature. I had only planned on an hour or two and ended up spending half the day. So much to do and see. Lots of trails and places to rest and catch your breath. Definitely worth the visit.

The TelefériQo cable car in Quito is one of the best attractions in the city and something I would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting. For just a small ticket price, you get a smooth ride up the mountainside in the cable car, and the views overlooking all of Quito are breathtaking — especially on a clear day. You can see the city stretch out below and the surrounding Andean peaks, which makes it a photographer’s dream. Once you get to the top station, there are restaurants, snack shops, and scenic lookout points where you can enjoy the views before starting the hike to Rucu Pichincha volcano. The hike itself is about 10 km round trip and typically takes 2–3 hours depending on your pace and how often you stop. While the trail is fairly well-marked and easy to follow, it is at very high altitude, so you will feel the thinner air. This makes the hike more challenging than it looks at first, but that’s also part of the adventure. I recommend bringing a warm jacket, sunscreen, and plenty of water, as the weather at the top changes quickly — it can go from warm and sunny to cold and windy within minutes. Good shoes or hiking boots are also a plus because parts of the trail can be steep and rocky. If you are planning the full hike, allow at least 5–6 hours total (including the cable car ride, photos, and the trek itself). What makes this experience special is the combination of accessibility (just a short ride from Quito city center), incredible panoramic views, and the sense of adventure you get from hiking a volcano above 4,000 meters. It’s a great half-day trip that can be enjoyed by couples, solo travelers, or families with older kids who can handle the altitude. Overall, an unforgettable experience in Quito and a highlight of my time in Ecuador. If you enjoy hiking, nature, or just want to see the city from one of the best vantage points possible, the TelefériQo and Rucu Pichincha hike are not to be missed.
