We stayed in the lodge and it was really spacious. The view was awesome from room 209. The beds were comfortable. Very clean. The tub was welcomed after a 3 day kayak trip. You can hear people walking in the room above so bring ear plugs. The staff were all welcoming and friendly. |The store/ restaurant had great coffee and some pastries before the restaurant opened at 11. The food was delish and we ate there twice. This is a good place to stay for all of your wilderness excursions!

We arrived at 3pm after a long drive . The young lady who checked us in was ok. We were given the key to cabin 11b overlooking the harbour on the boardwalk. The front door was blistered and split and looked sad inside, equipment was missing, a very noisy fridge that we had to turn off at night, and a dishwasher that was extremely noisy. The bed was noisy when sat on and only access for 1 person to get in and out with a large hole in the wall ! We slept on the fold down bed. No plug in bathroom sink or bath, strip light not working in main room. There was only net curtains so no privacy. The shop was empty so a 14 km drive to get supplies(not told this on check in)we had to ask for a cup of milk(had to buy it.Ripped off by on-site food because of no stock in general store. We had a large golf trolley go past our window at 5.45 am to load a boat then room lit by a searchlight from the boat! Quiet curfew until 8 am!! NOT!! The staff in general were miserable and not interested in the customer experience. Notices of fines if rooms were not left tidy! We should have fined the resort!! No slow trip boats going out of harbour, roaring out straight away! A man walking around very intimidating who it was clear was the one to deal with any complaints!! My wife was told”you are free to leave” on handing the key back in!! The only bad experience of our touring holiday, I would not return again, and strongly advise others not to visit. Not worth the money!!!If they are trying to create a historic atmosphere they are very sadly lacking, pre historic comes to mind!

The locale is gorgeous but is currently much diminished by last year's fire, but the price is not diminished to match. The cottages are quaint and aesthetically pleasing, but the maintenance was non-existent. Our walls had holes, the cottage had at least one mouse or rat, the dishwasher was broken and leaking, and the toilets screech. Moreover, despite spending ~$500 a night, there is neither wifi nor cell coverage at the cabins and the toilet paper so cheap that it was see through. The area around the resort is also ill-maintained; even the main trail (which is touted as a walk) is riddled with rotten supports, poor trimming, and a dangerous initial climb up a rocky creeklet. The Staff was by no means rude or disgruntled but all their services were overpriced (just drive into town, trust me) and done infrequently.

It’s an overpriced tourist trap that’s poorly maintained. Stayed in cabin 17A over the labour day long weekend. There were multiple issues with the cabin. The dishwasher was missing its lower spray arm, rendering it useless. It was also passively leaking while not in use so the kitchen floor was constantly a puddle. Fan hood over the stove wasn’t working. Oven was garbage. Bath tub down on the first floor wasn’t draining properly and both showers only allowed you have crazy hot water on or cold water. Toilet on the ground floor squeals loudly when flushed. There were rat droppings in both of the downstairs bedroom closets. There was a random hole in the wall on second floor. Both exterior doors are keyed differently. Half the dining room chairs wobbled and the cabin was just generally poorly finished. Walls are also paper thin, so make sure you’re comfortable with whoever you’re going with. Some of the dock planks outside were pretty sketchy too. Second pier was condemned. The resort is closed for over HALF the year, the state of things were frankly unacceptable - especially for the price.
The resort lost a lot more in the fire than they let on. There really wasn’t much to do at the resort and everything extra. Their temporary cafe made decent coffee but was outlandishly expensive for any food, pastries, or general items. Like a case of Lucky beer was over double the price of going into Port McNeil. There was no working wifi and the cell signal was crappy - so don’t expect to be able to do any work if you come out here.
Went up to the Blinkhorn trail down at the camping area isn’t maintained well and has some pretty sketchy parts. First 200m of the trail is pretty indicative of the rest, so if you’re sketched out early tap out.
All in all the cabins needed to be like $200 cheaper a night this summer with half the resort missing. It’d need to be like $100 cheaper on any other normal year to justify the cost. But since this is unlikely to ever happen, there’s just better places to go in BC for around the same price. Do Toffino, Ucleuet, or the Sunshine Coast instead.

We stayed in Cabin 2 and it was a good fit for our family of 4. Nice little kitchen, good open living space. The bathroom is a bit small (but as advertised if you read the clearly noted details on their website). There was no WiFi service for the cabin, just free WiFi at the General Store area and the Lobby... but it was nice to reconnect as a family and with nature. We were very happy to come and support the resort during the rebuild after the late 2024 fires, they're doing a great job keeping it running and getting it back to tip top shape.

Resort was awesome. Staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed in the the dock side suites. Very clean and up-to-date. Internet was spotty and no TV in our suite, but that was actually nice. Went for a whale tour with Prince Of Whales which was incredible.

Location is amazing, rooms are clean and new and quiet. The staff was ok, not super hospitable. Not as friendly as the rest of the island. Rates were reasonable. More expensive at home so we were happy. We planned to tent at the campground but it was a long wet day on the north island 1000 so we stayed here. Laundry facilities were nice.

So beautiful and everybody that I spoke to in town was lovely and working so hard to make it enjoyable. The young lady at the Whale Museum was so knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information on everything in there. And so sweet too!!

Yelp
This resort is a unique mix of cabins, historic homes and modern condos. They seem to be booked much of the time. We were only able to get a one night accommodation-we needed 2 rooms. We were placed in a historic home in the upper floor where we had 2 bedrooms and a bathroom as one unit in a 5 bedroom house. There was a common living room area for the building. These homes date back to world war II and rooms are pretty basic-bed nightstand, chest of drawers. At each historic house, there is a plaque with information about its history. We were in the Wastel house. The resort includes the Stubbs Island Whalewatching office, a whale museum, restaurant, outdoor picnic tables, and resort office as well as a coffee shop (just a counter to get coffee and pastries mainly), an outside cafe and the marina. It was convenient for us to stay there as we were doing the whale watch there so was fine for a single night. It's about 12 miles off the Island Hwy so nothing else around there.
