Telluride Sports is one of the biggest rental places in town with multiple locations. Each location is well stocked with skis, boards, boots, and poles.
This particular is a stone's throw from lift 4 thus conveniently located for those of us who don't want to carry our skis and boots around.
If you rent from them, they will also store your skis and boots overnight free of charge which is a nice service when storage lockers are $40/ night and ski/boot valet service is $10/ night. It's only $6/night for just skis.
My main problem with Telluride Sports and since I try to be candid on these reviews, I'm not sure this is their fault or mine and it's this:
I'm a beginner skiier. I've only skiied maybe 4 times my whole life, the last time being over 13 years ago.
Although I know I look athletic and healthy.
The first day, I rented their entry level skiis which skiied slower and since I like challenges, I upgraded them to performance level skiis the next day.
When Kris who worked behind the counter asked me my ski level, I told him I was a beginner but he looked like he didn't quite believe me and told me he was setting my binding for someone who is an intermediate.
Maybe I was flattered but I didn't correct him or insist that the binding be set for a beginner.
I skiied with the new skiis for a day and was not really comfortable on them since they skiied much faster.
The third morning, when I went to pick up my skiis, Kris just happened to help me again and I told him I wanted to go back to the entry level skiis since the performance skiis were too fast for me. He told me that the wax from the performance skiis were not as fresh so the skiis should be slower and somehow, I got talked into keeping these skiis that I was not comfortable skiing with.
It was the third day of skiing, I went on a blue run to challenge myself. And I fell . . . when I fell, the binding stayed on and the skiis did not release as normally would on a beginner, looser binding.
I injuried myself and had to be ski patrolled down the rest of the run.
Now as I'm writing this review, propped up in bed with ice on my left knee, I'm hoping it's just a sprain and not a torn mcl . . .
Of course getting injuried is my own responsibility. No one tells me to or not to fall.
But I wish I had the assertiveness to insist on getting what I wanted in regards to the type of skiis and the level of binding.
And maybe I wish Kris listened a bit better and made it easier for me to have a safe ski experience.
Regardless, I would recommend Telluride Sports to my friends as a place for ski or ski board rental . . . just be loud and clear and firm about your comfort level and ski level!
Otherwise, you might end up like me with an injury~ which is really no fun!
