Tembo House Hotel

We had a wonderful one night stay at Tembo House Hotel, our first night in Zanzibar. The hotel is in a prime location, in the middle of Stone Town, right on the beach, with easy access to the night market, and the markets and restaurants of Stone Town with a short walk. We were given the Tembo Suite, which is on the ground floor looking out to the beach. The room was spacious, had a comfortable bed, and a nice big bathroom. The hotel common areas were ample, with three pools including 2 infinity ones up on the second floor. They have great views, especially during sunset. There's a game room and beautiful decor all around. The lobby has some really interesting posters that gives history about the hotel, which was really fun to read. The staff was very attentive and hospitable. Special shout out to the chef - when we let the staff know of our vegan diet, he offered to make us a vegan chickpea curry just for us. As Indians, we've had our fair share of chickpea curry/chana masala over the years, so I do not take this lightly when I say both my husband and I thought it was the absolute best chana masala we've ever had!!!! It was so delicious, and we're so thankful to the chef for going out of his way to make that for us. Our only regret is only having one night at this hotel, we would've loved to have stayed additional nights.

Amazing Dining Experience – Highly Recommended!||I had a fantastic experience at this hotel’s restaurant. The chefs are incredibly skilled and dedicated—they work hard and always deliver delicious meals. The service team is also very supportive and attentive, always ready to help whenever guests need anything.||What I really appreciated was how the chefs come directly to the table to take orders and listen to the guests’ preferences. They’re clearly passionate about their work, and it shows in the food. Every dish I tried was excellent!||Whether you’re in the mood for continental, Italian, Asian, or especially Western cuisine, they can make it—and they do it extremely well. All the guests I saw were impressed, and many seemed like real food experts themselves.||I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family. If you’re looking for a great dinner experience, this is the place to go!

What a wonderful stay at Tembo! We stayed here for 2 nights before shifting to another hotel for a conference and had a wonderful time. Brilliant stonetown location, walkable to restaurants and attractions, and direct beach access. Outstanding yet homely breakfast sitting right by the sea, moderate selection of food, but excellent quality, and unique local dishes and breads. Stunningly pretty room with balcony and sea views. Warm staff. Nice pool area, proper lap pool. ||The only downside was that some renovation work was going on during our stay, infinity pool was unavailable, and a couple of switches in the room were not working- but promptly addressed when pointed out. Definitely recommend and would definitely return given the opportunity

Great hotel. We booked triple room, they were great. Big beds, lots of space, very clean and great bathroom. We were in an adjacent building, 50 meters away, very easy and beautiful. The main building is superb with three amazing pools and a wonderful view and access to the beach. Breakfast was perfect, a big buffet with everything.

Such an amazing hotel right on the water and in heart of Stonetown. The hotel is from 1800s and the architecture is stunning - with big beautiful doors, multiple pools and interesting antique decor! ||The room we stayed in was a good size and comfortable. Staff were attentive and helpful and the food was really nice! ||It was perfectly located with a great view of the beach/water + sunset. It was easy to walk straight into the shopping area and laneways of Stonetown to wander around, we would definitely stay again!

Such a lovely place to stay, the staff are truly the loveliest and most helpful people you have met. Every room is stunning and cleaned thoroughly, whilst having a lovely taste of individuality in each. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and has a piece of history, art of culture on every wall and in every cabinet. The only downside for me was that is was a dry hotel, however there was a bar next to the hotel which provided a large range of food and drinks.

Stayed here for a brief 2 night stop over. Brilliant location. We stayed in the apartments - so a 2 min walk from the main hotel - really quiet. There are 4 pools. Beach access. Breakfast was buffet style - lots of choice - nothing to write home about bar pancakes! Perfect location means walking distance to lots of restaurants and bars, slave museum, markets etc. rooms super clean. Family room was huge with three king sized bed beds and huge bathroom. Super friendly staff.

The authenticity of the staff, the hotel interior and sea view were fascinating. We were very happy with the Cleanliness and comfortable beds and amazing locations for the beach and the handicraft shops! It was the last night before our departure but I can say it was all what we needed. We had an early flight so we told them we don’t need breakfast even if it was paid and they surprised us with a take an away package ready for us at 5 a!
