Tembo House Hotel

Excellent location, very typically African and traditional in style. On a nice beach with plenty to look at but not one for swimming with all the boats. Food and service were excellent, we had a beach front room with a great view. Lovely staff in all areas. Would recommend staying here if passing through Stone Town.

It's ok, nice "old" hotel, the main part anyway. All right breakfast, fair choice and good service. Pools are fun on the roof. If you are going to go here pay for the best rooms though!!! The cheaper ones are nowhere near the main hotel and have problems with the consistency of the quality. We didn't sleep for two nights even after being moved. The manager kindly paid for our taxi across the island upon leaving, and said they would look into turning off the pressure pump that's comes on and off all night, reverberating through the hole building. But, just be aware. At the time of posting this I seems like they are taking on a little to much and loosing a little quality. However, I do believe they care, and it will be changed in the future.

You can’t beat the location, it’s right on the water, next door to a beach bar/restaurant and a dive shop, and close to shopping and Freddy Mercury museum. For the price it is great. The only thing to know is the rooms for the most part to not have windows that can be kept open, they are generally doors and don’t have mosquito screens. There is A/C so that is fine. Also most rooms are up 1-2 flights of stairs. The staff was absolutely wonderfully gracious and kind, the food was good and reasonable, breakfast buffet was great, there is no alcohol served but there are lovely alcohol free cocktails.

“Exceptional stay with top-notch service!” My recent stay at this hotel exceeded all expectations. The check-in process was smooth and welcoming, and the staff went out of their way to make me feel at home. The room was spotless, spacious, and beautifully designed, with all the amenities I needed. Housekeeping was consistent and attentive throughout my stay. What truly stood out was the level of service, every staff member I interacted with was friendly, professional, and eager to help. Whether it was restaurant recommendations, room service, or simply a warm smile they delivered. I want to thank everyone and especially Salim that helped me to switch the room to have the best view and for my comfort. Also I want to thank Mohamed who was really nice and guided me to find shops. Had a lovely two night stay in Stone Town at Tembo House Hotel. We arrived at 2am in the morning and had a very smooth check-in. Service was great. Breakfast was good. Pool was very nice. Bathrooms are cool! The beds were super firm and comfortable. Good location - in walking distance to beach, shops, restaurants and Night Market. Loved the unique vibe and character, especially the stained glass windows. I would recommend :)

We greatly enjoyed Tembo House Hotel. Service was excellent, food was very good with a lovely buffet breakfast overlooking the water, and the location perfect for exploring Stone Town. The rooms were lovely and clean and I felt very safe there. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. The offered to arrange a tour for us (although we ended up not taking it.) I highly recommend.

Cozy accommodation part of the Tembo buildings. Amazing service and staff, delicious breakfast! Beautiful view of the main building. Location of the apartments is a little tricky, but the front desk person accompanied me to the main building to get my taxi early morning.

Location couldnt be better. Right on the beachfront. Central to most historical sites and convenient for most excursions. Service was friendly and accommodating. Rooms, pools and general area nice and clean. Rooftop pools were a great bonus. Restaurant offered good food with some traditional local options. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Rooms a little small but really just for sleeping and the mosquito nets were a nice touch. Highly recommend and would return in the future.
