宿坊 高山善光寺｜TEMPLE HOTEL TAKAYAMA ZENKO-JI

My experience was absolutely remarkable. From the moment my friend and I arrived at the hotel we were welcomed with warmth. The rooms were so comfortable and the hotel itself is close to everything in walking distance! And I will never forget the staff! The meditation was beautiful and a beautiful perspective as a foreigner on Japanese practiced buddhism. This hotel is worth every every cent and I hope to return soon.

One of our highlights on our journey through Japan! Such a beautiful temple in a wonderful little town. We loved everything about that stay: the wonderful room, the people, the warm welcome, the calmness and spiritual atmosphere and the morning ceremony with the monk ❤️ totally recommend that experience!

Perfect combination of ancient culture and modern facilitization in the rooms. Amazing location in the city and the staff is very kind. My girlfriend made the reservation, I was not sure what to expect… the rooms we slept on the floor like it is supposed to be, but the bathroom and stuff was very modern. Worth every penny!

The staff were really great. The room had an odd smell in our opinion, even with the window opened all night. We stayed in much better places for less money. The morning prayer was really interesting and this is the only thing we can recommend. Overall, overpriced for what it offers.

Great experience to sleep in a temple where you wake up in front of a garden and attend to a budist pray in the morning. Only issue was the cold rooms although there were some heaters available. I missed to have an option of group meditation as only meditation teaching was available. The staff was very kind.

Very unique experience and staff were lovely and spoke great English. Local area also really nice. My room also came with a mini fridge and heater which were great additions Do be aware that the morning chant at 7am can sometimes be heard from some rooms in case you're a very light sleeper.

I stayed here recently with my family and it was a fantastic experience. The staff were friendly and the temple and rooms were gorgeous. There are extra activities available such as meditation, and you can join in the morning service which I would personally recommend. It's also located conveniently within walking distance of plenty of shops, restaurants and amenities (such as a hairdresser, supermarket and laundromat). I would highly recommend staying if you're looking for a more traditional experience (with modern amenities) and plan on exploring Takayama.
