Temple of Agriculture

Part of this temple now hosts the Ancient Architecture Museum. I highly recommend this small museum if you are interested in the the history and evolution of architecture in China’s different regions. This is extremely well curated and many plaques have English translation. I spent about 1-2 hrs here at a relaxed pace.

It’s a good museum inside, definitely worth a visit

A hidden gem, and well worth a visit. It's quite some time since I visited the Temple of Agriculture, but it was utterly wonderful. Having been to the Summer Palace and the Forbidden City, both rammed solid, the Temple of Agreculiure was a breth of fresh air. Used by the Emperors to pray for good harvests the buildings now house a model of Bajing before the revolution, and have exhibets showing a time line of howing changing architectural styles developed. On the day I went I had the entire place to myself, just me and an English Audio Guide; although someone did briefly stick their head in to see if I wanted to buy anything when I took a wander round the gift shop.

This is the former Temple of Agriculture. It now has a stadium, a school, a research institution, and the Ancient Architecture Museum.

Der Xiannong Altar gehört zu den 5 Altären in Beijing und ist ein Besuch wert. Er beherbergt das alte Architektur Museum, in welchem detailliert die alte Bauweisen von Tempeln, Palästen und Gräbern erläutert wird. Leider sind nicht mehr alle historischen Gebäude erhalten geblieben. Man bekommt dennoch einen Eindruck wie der Kaiser dem Gott der Landwirtschaft huldigte und z.B. persönlich, symbolisch, ein Feld bestellte. Keine Pässe o.a. für Tickets nötig.

皇帝が農耕儀礼を行なっていた祭壇(先農壇)。古代建築博物館敷地内にある。今は祭壇がコンクリで固められているため見た目はただの舞台。博物館のほうが面白い。 普通の住宅地の奥にあるため、行き帰りに地元の生活感を味わえる。

蕴含了很多古老文化的地方。可惜知道的人不多，周末去也只有零星的几个人在参观。

先农坛建筑群是明清两代皇帝祭祀先农诸神和太岁诸神和举行亲耕的地方，位于北京市西城区南中轴线以西，与天坛东西相对，遥相呼应。是全国重点文物保护单位。
