Traveling With an Eating Disorder

"A historic archaeological site famed for the ancient oracle of Apollo, offering a powerful sense of past and perspective; the author's visit to the ruins prompted feelings of smallness in a humbling, meaningful way that underscored the emotional impact of standing amid layers of history." - Hannah Howard

It’s a fantastic place. You can really feel the energies here. The ancient temples, the location itself, and the view are breathtaking. It fills you with good energy. A short meditation around the temple is wonderful. The whole place is in such a beautiful setting. The nearby town has very nice hotels and restaurants.

This is going to be a general review of my time in Delphi. Every step you make, you feel the weight of history. It's such a privilege and an honour to witness a place that has been such a presence for thousands of years. I had a guide that was able to explain the sight in great detail. I had good knowledge of Delphi beforehand but my knowledge increased. I loved the stories of Zeus and Hestia. Hestia and Apollo. Apollo doing Apollo things and how he became the patron of Delphi. If you come here, you will not be disappointed at all, especially if you're interested in the classics. p.s. bring comfortable shoes, Delphi is hilly.

It's easy to stand here and forget how far back the history of this place goes. I wanted to put on some running shoes and take a lap around the track. Alas, that isn't allowed. The views of the valley and surrounding mountains here are mesmerizing.

I will preface this by saying I’m not a museum person. It was a good road trip stop, but I wasn’t absolutely amazed by it. They do a good job of giving context around things, but pretty much everything is destroyed, so it’s hard to visualize. If you’re not into history (I’m not), walk around and leave. Museum was meh. But again, I’m not a museum person.

With only one day to spare in Athens, we hesitated between the Apollo Temple and the Poseidon Temple. We settled for Delphi and the Apollo Temple and made the 3-hour drive from Athens in a rental car. We really enjoyed Delphi. There is a lot to see in the archeological area and the nearby village of Arachova. I think the site really showcases the complexity and genius of the Greek civilization. This place is far from Athens, but was maintained and used regularly for large gatherings and competitions. The ruins are beautiful. Of note, it’s a nice walk and mostly uphill so consider the time of day you visit. I imagine it would be very hot in the afternoon. Ticket price was around $30 per person, which I think was well worth it. The small snack restaurant was pricey and they tried to change the prices on us at the register, so beware and ask upfront how much something is.

Nice local museum with archaelogical artefact. Spent €20 per pax for both the ruins and the museum. there were water cooler and toilet outside of museum. Nice short hiking at the ruins. We spent about 3 hour in total for both ruins and museum. Generally recommended. Good to come early to avoid the tourist crowd. Parking was limited.

Amazing Archaeological site with remains of buildings, columns and an amphitheatre all in stunning countryside and mountain scenery. Mmm any steep steps to climb with rocky and gravel paths. Good walking shoes/Trainers needed along with a decent level of fitness Great views over mountains and countryside from almost everywhere. Loos on site and a great museum at the site entrance.

Yesterday, I visited Delphi and its museum, and I’m absolutely enchanted! The ancient ruins, nestled in the stunning mountainous landscape, feel like a step back in time—pure magic. The Oracle’s sanctuary and the theater were breathtaking, and the museum’s artifacts, like the Charioteer of Delphi, were simply awe-inspiring. Everything was so well-preserved and rich with history that it left me speechless. However, a quick note for travelers: if you’re coming from northern Greece, the journey can be quite challenging. The winding mountain roads and long drive demand patience and careful planning. Still, Delphi is worth every effort!
