Temple of Khnum

Fabulous temple that has recently been renovated. Its quite small compared with other temples . The colours are fantastic. Its about an hours drive from Luxor. We hired a taxi for the round trip. Definitely well worth a visit.

Half of the temple is nicely cleaned. The other half is undergoing restoration which is interesting to see. The temple was buried under years of silt, so the colors at the top are more impressive.

This temple is not always on tour itineraries. Worth going to Esna temple to understand the history of the area. Lots of restoration/ cleaning work going on and you appreciate the brightness of the cleaned areas compared to those areas being worked on.

A beautiful temple. Much smaller than the Karnak temple in Luxor, but it’s being restored and you can see the original color. Amazing details and absolutely stunning!

Esna is a truly special city. You feel it the moment you arrive by the Nile and walk toward the Temple of Esna. The warm faces of the people and their kindness make you feel a comfort you’ve never felt before. Stepping through the temple gate feels like traveling back in time. The beauty and skill of the ancient Egyptians are astonishing. How did they build something so perfect? How have these massive columns stood for thousands of years? These are questions without easy answers. After visiting the temple and the caravanserai, take a short walk—just three minutes—through the quiet streets of the city. Stop at Mo’men Restaurant and try a Taamya sandwich , you won’t find anything like it anywhere else. Esna has truly captured my heart, with its generous people and timeless charm❤️

A spectacular Egyptian monument which stands proud against the mountains. Its size is mesmerising especially given how old it is and the detail of the architecture.

This temple is a hidden gem! Must visit. The decoration is one of the best you can see in Egypt.

The best preserved colours I have seen in an Egyptian temple. Crazy to think about the fact that they were painted thousands of years ago.
