I love the hunt! If you are a shopper, you know that there are treasures to be found in most second hand and vintage stores, and the best ones, in my opinion, are the unexpected and the kind that don't cost you an arm and a leg. Enter, Templo de Susu...
Now, I admit, I'm pretty much out of the loop here in Madrid when it comes to vintage and second hand options. I do know that there are a new crop of these stores (expensive?)around the city center that have opened up over the past 5 years (during which I've moved from Madrid to Barcelona to LA to Madrid) so I can't really give a comparative review. But, my experience at Templo and my opinion of the experience I can honestly share, which is, go and check it out. If you like finding "a find" and you live in Madrid, check it out regularly. I think it's a cool place to treasure hunt. The window displays are way cool (and there's a good chance you'll covet something that you see before you even walk through the door: a purse, a ring, a dress), the owner and sales people are down to earth, nice, and helpful, the rock music they play is rad and generally their selection of coats and jackets are retro, stylish and in excellent condition. My husband and I have both found our favorite coats here. His: a long, 70's Shaft-style burgandy leather coat, and mine: a gorgeous, deep navy, long suede with fox fur collar coat, also 70's style. Both in excellent condition and only 30 euros each! That's pretty much impossible to find in Barcelona and LA.
Oh, and another thing. The store is pretty small, so the selection of clothes and stuff that they have out on the floor is small which is something I actually prefer. You will not spend hours of sifting through racks and racks; you will not get overwhelmed.
I highly recommend dropping in, relaxing and enjoying the experience.
You never know what you're going to find.
