In gratitude for the riches obtained from the mine just to the north of the church the mine owner commissioned the construction of this church. Not large but lavish. The gold alters are real gold recovered from the mine. A must see if you are visiting Guanajuato.

WOW! We have seen hundreds of churches around the world, and this one is up there with the most interesting. Obscene expenditure during construction by an individual, as opposed to a religious order, which is the norm generally.

Beautiful temple but it is small and a quick visit. Location is out of the way but make sure you visit one of the mines nearby (Bocamina San Ramon, etc). It is free to enter. Also, check with any of the tourist booths around Guanajuato for current approximate taxi rates. At my time of posting, it was 70 pesos one way from the Basilica. I had a few taxis try to tell me a lot more but when I called them out on it, he said "okay I'll do it for 70 pesos".

Nice church to visit if you're staying near by. Some small souvenir shops around with good prices. Nice for photo shoots.

Very ornate and impressive church with some great history behind it. Worth a look.

Templo de San Cayetano Confesor and also went on a tour of a nearby mine. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. The church was beautiful and the mine tour was fascinating. I highly recommend visiting both places if you have the opportunity.

Hello tourist! If you are in Guanajuato and you come by the mines, you should stop and see this church. It's architecture is worth a couple photos (barroque-esque facade and golden-detailed interior); just remember you can't use photo flash inside. Entrance is free of course and they have a tray for tips. They reason I say "if you are by the mines" is because the visit itself is fairly quick and the trip may not be worth to everyone. Outside the church, is a very pleasant small plaza where you can eat some popular mexican snacks to continue your adventure!

Not sure this is the church I saw from Pipila, but it sits visibly atop a ridge. It's lightly touristed, and those are mainly national. Inside is beautiful with three large altar pieces. Unique to this church are terracotta reliefs arcing across the aisle; mostly botanical in design, but look for the angels and birds. Different angels mark the center of these arches. It's free to enter, but a donation to help maintain it is requested. If you take public transportation, look for the ones marked Valenciana. There's a bus stop right out front.
