Construction of Queretaros' first religious building began in the late 1500s. The temple of San Francisco acted as a convent church, cemetery, and orchard. It is located in the historical center of Santiago de Queretaro. From 1852 to 1922, it functioned as a Catholic cathedral. The architecture is a mix of Baroque and Neoclassical styles. During the centuries, the site has received numerous renovations and upgrades. Unfortunately, most of the temples and chapels from the 16th and 17th centuries were destroyed during the reform war of 1858-1861.

Most churches in Queretaro are ok looking but will not make a lasting impression on a visitor. This one is no different. It has a rich and interesting history but overall it is not so different from other churches in Mexico as to stand out.

Impressive building, but I actually enjoyed the plaza outside more than inside the church itself.

Probably as a local you enjoy that this place is close during the daytime but as a tourist with little hours to visit I am surprised is just open from 6pm and not during the day time what a waste of time and looks small
