Templo Mayor Museum

Museo de Templo Mayor was by far one of the biggest highlights from my two weeks in Mexico City and the surrounding sites. This place is unlike any other museum in CDMX. The old Aztec ruins that were discovered here show the true breadth of history Mexico City has. The energy here is potent and powerful. Tune in and see what you feel for yourself. I thought this museum was leagues above and beyond the Anthropology Museum. If you want to go to one historical museum in CDMX - make it this one hands down.

Very interesting place from a historical standpoint. The temple structure is largely destroyed unfortunately, and it’s clear that ground settlement is taking a further toll. But it is cool that you can walk over/around it (on sidewalks with railing), unlike some other sites. The indoor portion of the museum is quite interesting, you could probably spend 1 - 1.5 hours there and cover it well. It’s basically designed with a routed layout where you can walk through and cover everything in order, which I found helpful. If I had to choose, I would choose Anthropology Museum over Templo Mayor, but hopefully you have time for both.

While the entrance price has gone up for foreign visitors (now 210 pesos per person), it was still worth a visit. Yes, you can see the ruins from outside for free. However, going inside allows you to view the descriptions and explanations (most of them have both English and Spanish notes). There are also exhibitions that show interesting collections, such as the marine and land animal offerings to gods, etc. We came around 1230pm on a Sunday and it wasn’t too crowded. When we came out around 2pm, there was a line. They search you throughly multiple times which could contribute to the wait time.

Not enough English guide. Very troublesome to translate everything into English. If you want visitors to better understand your history and culture, this should be done properly in common language. After the historical site, there are more to see in the museum. Don't miss it! This is truly an amazing place to visit (with or without the English guide).

We visited this museum without a guide and still found it very interesting and informative. There is signage in both English and Spanish. But some of the signage is in Spanish only. The museum was larger than I had expected and had great artifacts in it. It is amazing that this site is in the middle of such a large city.

Definitely recommend to check it out. The price per person is $210. The only thing is they don’t allow any drinks inside and you have to check your bag.

The museum is interesting and historically important, with some impressive ruins and artifacts that give you a real sense of Mexico’s ancient past. However, the layout feels a bit confusing, and the explanations are mostly in Spanish with very limited English support, which makes it harder for international visitors to fully appreciate the exhibits. It’s worth a visit if you’re already in the area, but it doesn’t feel very visitor-friendly for tourists who don’t speak Spanish. Overall, fascinating history but the experience could be improved.

Please restore The signs explaining the exhibit are deteriorated; it would be good to have pre-Hispanic sounds or short videos with descriptions throughout the exhibit, because we tourists are very interested in learning about this wonderful culture.
