Ten Toes Surf - Surf Coaching and Lessons

Our Surf and Stay experience at Ten Toes was truly fantastic. From the gorgeous house to the fabulous food to the incredible surf instruction, we could not have asked for a better experience. All the staff were so kind and attentive to our needs and we felt very pampered while leveling-up our surf skills. It was absolutely the best surf trip we have ever taken!

My girlfriend Katie and I stayed at Ten Toes Surf from Nov 22-29, and honestly… it was one of the best weeks we’ve ever had! Katie is a beginner/improver and came into the trip excited but a bit nervous about progressing. The way the team handled her journey was next level. We started in the white water where she could build confidence, and over the week Mariana coached her step-by-step into her first green waves. Mariana is an unreal coach - patient, clear, encouraging, and totally tuned in to what Katie needed each session. Watching her improve that fast was amazing. I’m typically a high-level surfer, so was keen to score some proper performance waves. Ten Toes nailed the balance for both of us. I got plenty of solid surf right out front, and then Sleiter took me on a few road trips to more secluded beaches with cleaner, higher-performance waves. Those sessions were insane. Sleiter is the man - he pushed me in all the right ways, helped me tighten up my barrel riding, and even gave me tips that unlocked a couple of aerials I’d been working on. Super knowledgeable, super chill, and genuinely cares about your surfing. Outside the water, everything was just as good. The food was incredible - fresh, healthy, and honestly better than we expected every single day. The accommodations were awesome - comfortable, clean, and the perfect place to relax after long surf sessions. The whole vibe of the camp is welcoming, easygoing, and feels like being part of a surf family for the week. If you’re coming as a couple with different surf levels (like us), this place is perfect. Katie left surfing real waves with confidence, and I left feeling sharper, more inspired, and pretty much frothing to come back. Ten Toes Surf was an amazing surf school. I scheduled lessons for my two sons, my wife and myself. My youngest son is an improver and the rest of us were beginners. I really appreciated the way they started with the basics of board control. They gave us the knowledge to build good technique. They taught my youngest son about wave selection. That one piece of advice helped him catch multiple waves he may have not tried for. I was able to pop up and catch waves by the end of the lesson. I would definitely come back again.

I'm an intermediate surfer who's never had a lesson and Ten Toes was recommended to me. They have been simply invaluable to my surfing - it's amazing what you get with the SMARTER sessions and the video breakdown - they're so attentive and really know how to analyze your surfing and make great coaching recommendations. Also you can finally get some footage of yourself :) I recommend the SMARTER sessions for sure. It's been so valuable to me and my surfing progress to not only have the basics broken down for me but to also be given specific skills to work on. I highly recommend! I had two lessons with Ten Toes Surf Coaching in Nosara, Costa Rica. The first with Martien, he spent time finding out my experience level and current goals. He had me perform technical drills that evaluated my weaknesses that gave him the information he needed to develop a lesson plan. I could NOT have been more impressed with his professionalism and technical competence. I had one of the best surfing days of my life! The second lesson I had was with Mariana. She evaluated my skill level, and then she developed a training plan. We spent time in the water and then would go to the beach, and she would step-by-step have me perform the objective. It was AWESOME! I learned more in 90 minutes than I have in years. She is so good at explaining the body mechanics of the maneuvers. I highly recommend Ten Toes!

I had such an amazing time with Ten Toe Surf Coaching! The instructors are super professional, friendly, and patient. they really take the time to understand your level and help you progress with confidence. The lessons are fun but also very technical, with lots of helpful feedback both in and out of the water. The vibe is relaxed and positive, and you can really feel their passion for surfing and sharing it with others. Whether you’re a total beginner or looking to refine your style, this is the place to go!

Ten Toes is amazing! Tommy taught me how to cross step with such patience and clear guidance, and Maria’s video analysis really helped me see my progress and improve my technique. Highly recommend them!

December 2025 we spent the holidays in Nosara CR. My son and I both surf, but wanted to get in some intermediate surf lessons while we were there. The instructors at Ten Toes Surf coaching killed it! Great experience. On the water coaching, plus local knowledge of navigating the line up, plus video analysis, and a great experience. From beginner to advanced, I highly recommend Ten Toes Surf. We will for sure be doing it again next time we are in Nosara. Thanks Ten Toes!
