"A humble storefront along the main lunch drag on Kearny Street, the food offerings and snaked lines inside Tenmatsu will tell you otherwise. Owned by a local family, they serve up a range of sushi plates, “donburi” rice bowls, udon noodles, and hand rolls to go. There’s also a fridge where you can grab traditional Japanese beverages from green teas to coffee milk teas. Go before 12 p to get the best selections of bentos. Options are slim once 1:30 rolls around." - outlier

Got lunch with a couple other people. There were lots good options but if you want to pick from everything get there when they open. I got a hand roll and a teriyaki salmon bowl and shared the special roll. I liked the hand roll the best and also enjoyed the cabbage in the teriyaki bowl. The special roll was just shrimp tempura topped with imitation crab, some sauces, and roe. I plan to try another roll next time I go there. It’s a pretty tight space and you have to go some else to eat it. Great place to grab something quickly and get back to work

Google
I can here to grab a quick rice bowl for lunch. The beef in the gyudon bowl was very low quality. It was effectively all fat. It did not sit well in my stomach, unfortunately

wonderful sushi! grab and go. perfect lunch near the office.

Google
I ordered a salmon teriyaki donburi on Ritual around lunch time. It was ready to pick up really quickly. This is a small grab-pay-and-go place. It can get pretty crowded, so ordering ahead is a good idea. The salmon teriyaki donburi is so good! I love getting this dish, the salmon is tasty and doesn’t have the fishy smell or taste, the teriyaki sauce glistens on the fish and adds a light sweet taste, the veggies are steamed and seasoned well, the pickled daikon gives a nice crunch, and they give a decent amount of rice and food. It’s pretty filling! I would recommend this place if you want fast to-go Japanese food.

Google
Very cozy place with freshly prepared hand rolls, bentos and more. I got the handrolls, which were tasty. Looking forward to trying their bentos next.

Google
Lovely little store with a variety of options, from rolls to bowls. They also have a little station for you to grab utensils, napkins and condiments. The owners are very sweet and highly recommend coming here for a quick bite.

Google
Delicious food and excellent service! The warm grab & go section is full of pleasant surprises. If you don't see what you want available in the grab & go heaters, you can just tell a waiter and the kitchen will prepare your lunch box right away. You can also order Japanese Curry at the counter.

Google
Great to-go place for Japanese food. It's a small shop with a side lined by refrigerators where you grab your favorite dish and head to the other side to check out. The raw fish has always seems very fresh, which is obviously very important. If you aren't a raw fish eater not to worry, they also have teriyaki and other cooked options.

Yelp
A good place to pick up Japanese food. Grab and go. Their selection of sushi, poke, and hand roll options were great. I didn't try the donburi so not sure on that. I tried to order curry from the menu, but the worker said they don't sell it till it gets to the colder outside. I wish there was a sign that said seasonal and it was clearer to tell what is being served to order vs grab and go. Clean and well organized shop food selection, container to place your food, and sauces/utensils. Special Roll: 4/5 The fish on top was good, the tempura shrimp inside was a little lacking in certain spots of the roll. Served with mango on the side great for the price. Spicy tuna Hand roll: 5/5 Actually spicy tuna and lettuce. Affordable price, it's self service so you can use the tongs to pick which you want. There's multiple hand roll options to pick from. I'll come back again to try the donburi or to grab some sushi.

Yelp
11.03.2023. Chicken teriyaki donburi 10.00. A decent portion for what I paid. The teriyaki seemed pretty standard. There was definitely a lot of rice in comparison to the meat, but still worth 10 bucks. There was a large selection of premade bentos and stuff on the right side of the store. The food is fine, but not something you HAVE to go try. Good for people working in the area who want a quick lunch.

Yelp
This is an office favorite! Easy grab n go style and the staff is always so friendly.

Yelp
There's only 137 reviews? WHAT? WHAT? Asians...they only complain online. 5 star reviews..they hardly write. It's all good, I got this. Finally stopped by for the first time in years since Covid. I was worried it would be gone, but NO, it STILL STANDS! Wow, I've known owner lady Jenny for a long time. My first job in SF was 2015 and it was probably the last great phase of SF before Covid. I've eaten at this place more than 137 times at least lol. I don't even know where to begin, Jenny's team wakes up before the crack of dawn to prepare prodigious amounts of rice, sautéd cabbage, prepping endless cuts of protein and diligently preparing all the cooked goods into simple packaging. The food itself is just amazing. Hands down, best grab n go in downtown Fidi. Extremely affordable. I...couldn't really believe it, the prices haven't changed. I know cuz..I ate here 100+ times. The quantity is slightly down on the protein side, I get it, inflation is insane yet Jenny holds the line. In a time when even my condiment staples like Siracha are failing, it's nice to know there's a bento box with my name on it and a happy simple meal waiting. Thank you Jenny for all the great meals. -that tall Chinese guy

Yelp
This has have to be the most affordable lunch to go place around town, food here is decent but for the price your paying its a pretty good deal. I usually come here for lunch if your craving sushi come get it here, its the best around the area

Yelp
Food is so good! And the people are so nice! It's a grab n go but if there's something you don't see at the shelf, they will make it for you. Delicious sushi for a very good price ! Also got rice bowls: teriyaki chicken, beef, pork salmon etc for under 15 dollars! Rolls range from 7-15$ and they're good size too can't go wrong with tha
google avatar

Yelp
The food is great quality and great value! It hurts my heart to see how this place has been impacted by the decline of office workers in downtown SF. The people here are really kind and make great food. This is one of the places that deserves to make it and thrive! There is a great selection of bento boxes, sushi, and sweet treats. A really solid lunch spot that I return to again and again and again! I hope you will try it out as well!

Nicole Y.

Yelp
Fresh sushi that is quick, easy, and delicious. A safe go to that covers hot and cold food.

Yelp
Food was great! Really convenient when you're in a rush. Many options to choose from. The bowls are definitely worth trying. Very quick and friendly service too!

Yelp
The food is so good, fresh, and at a great price. Both the teriyaki bowl and the tempura roll I got came in roughly under $20, and the owners are so friendly and sweet. No seating though since it is a to-go spot, but a great option for a quick lunch!

Yelp
Another person wrote this and I'm compelled to echo their sentiment; please support this small business! I have been eating here since they opened years ago and ate here several times a week back when I worked in the area. Not making this about me but this place was a part of my weight loss journey; I often wanted tasty food without guilt and Tenmatsu was perfect for me. Post pandemic, I find myself in the FiDi again and I consistently go out of my way to eat here. The woman/family who owns it could not be nicer. She is warm and friendly and I just really appreciate the simplicity of the place. No frills, you get in, you get out - with good food prepared by kind hands. Give them a try! The city needs places like this and owners who care about their clientele.

Yelp
PLEASE SUPPORT THIS SMALL BUSINESS!!!! Service: Great grab-and-go spot in FiDi! Love that it's so quick and easy to grab on a busy day. There are both hot foods and cold (sushi) available however, at the time I went (12:06pm on a Friday) there wasn't many options! Not sure if they were still prepping or the lunch rush already passed. I definitely wished there were more options. One thing that bothered me was that the cashier, a young girl, was very polite but then asked "can you make sure to tip?". I was definitely going to tip as I always support small businesses & it was my first time there, but to bluntly ask for tip sort of threw me off. I get that it's such a small business and I'm sure during the pandemic, it was difficult to get through, but maybe a cute sign or a more visible tip jar would've been a better way to communicate tipping? Otherwise, transaction was simple and quick. Food: Sushi was pretty good quality! I got a bento box w 5 pieces of nigiri and 4 pieces of rolls. It was well packed & fairly filling! For $15, I'm not complaining. I would definitely go back!! Location: It's located on Kearny, in FiDi, walking distance to all of the major companies. When you pass by, it really doesn't look like much and is sort of a whole in the wall, but it's pretty much a hidden gem. Absolutely recommend this place!!

Yelp
Solid and dependable spot to grab a Japanese bento for lunch. Or sushi. Or a donburi. Or a bowl of udon. Or so much more. Tenmatsu is not short on choice for the FiDi worker looking for a quick Japanese lunch fix. Making a decision is probably the longest part. Pick your choice, pay, and you're on your way. Personal favorites include the savory gyudon, bright sashimi salad, and for a snack - why not a spam musubi for later? The beef bowl has good flavor and with the rice is quite Asian comfort food. You can get the salad with the sesame vinaigrette on it's own but go with the sashimi upgrade. Mealpal options here included a teriyaki salmon bowl but perhaps a little too skinny a slice. Better to just grab and go from the regular menu here and it's just as fast.

Yelp
Not good sushi... the spicy tuna was horrible and salty (?) I will not be returning. Much better sushi places in the area

Yelp
I love Gyudon. I search high and low for good Gyudon for lunch. When i think Japanese food I don't think sushi - I think Japanese Curry, Sukiyaki, Saba Shioyaki and Gyudon. Tenmatsu has great Gyudon! Paper thin, perfectly cooked sukiyaki beef with great sauce and onions. Great great great Japanese Curry! The perfect curry sauce and pieces of beef you can cut with a spoon. The bento boxes are HUGE. The place is probably 6x6 (maybe 9x9) it's tiny but don't let the small size fool you the food here is legit and very reasonable - Gydon $9 Japanese Beef Curry $9. Tenmatsu get's crowded and finding the food in a crowd in a tiny space can be challenging. There is a refrigerated section for sushi, a warming area for the rice bowls, a spot for the bento boxes and the ramen / udon / curry is served by one of the cashiers. Great lunch spot!

Yelp
I love Tenmatsu! I love the grab n go concept with meals that are prepared fresh or that morning. I also love how you can see exactly what each meal will look like so there are no surprises. The prices are fair for the financial district area. You have your basic rolls like the California roll for $7. Then, you have your specialty rolls like dragon, rainbow, and etc. for $10-$15. They also offer chirashi bowls, a whole section for hot donburi bowls, a hand roll section, "sides" including seaweed salad, and even a made to order noodle section (sobas and udon). I got the veggie combo $10.50 which was a good amount of food on its own. I also got the ebi hand roll for $2.50. Both were good and hit the spot but neither was extraordinarily unique. Overall, Tenmatsu is great for a quick, easy, and value lunch! The food is just what you expect (nothing more, nothing less). They have a variety of options for meat lovers and vegetarians/vegans, hot food lovers, cold food lovers, and noodle lovers.

Yelp
Sometimes you're in a rush and just want to grab something pre-made to go. Sure, there are tons of places hawking salads and sandwiches, but that gets boring quickly. This place reminds me of the convenience stores in Tokyo, with really tasty quick lunch options. Spam Musubi: I have mixed feelings about this. One hand, I thought the rice was really innovative since they seemed to mix scallions and spam bits to jazz it up. On the other hand, the spam on top was a bit lackluster since it wasn't glazed and/or crispy, just out of the can. Pork Belly Bento: I really really really liked this bento box. The pork belly was way better than you'd expect at a grab-and-go bento joint. The meat was firm yet tender while the fat on top was silky smooth; all encased in an inviting glaze. The cabbage underneath was a great pairing. Loved the little sausages as a side dish, since pork with pork always works. And the red colored fried tofu squares were an extra bonus protein. Loved that they were acting like a vegan impostor to the pork belly.

Yelp
I love this place- many homey and delicious options for Under $10!!! Yes that's right - when everything else costs $20 in Fidi this is a great option

Yelp
I had the tofu bowl and a side of green beans and unfortunately it wasn't all that good. I got the Kinoko Gohan with Chicken from meal pal which I put as a time of 2:15-2:30 but when I got there at around 2:15, the place had already started cleaning up and didn't have anymore of what I had reserved. So that's how I ended up with the tofu and green beans. The tofu was disappointing. It tasted like hot and sour soup mixed with tofu, which while could be good in some instances, didn't taste too good because there was so much rice and cabbage on the bottom. In all the bowl contained too much veggies and plain rice and not enough sauce or tofu. The green beans though were not too bad, they were rather tasty and had a nice dash of peanuts on top combined with a nice sauce. Overall, I would probably pass on choosing this place in the future, though it is possible that their meat items taste a lot better. The other items could taste better, so I might give it another chance.

Yelp
A great place to get delicious hot Japanese dishes like donburi, sushi, bento boxes and mochi. Super quick and courteous service. A bit pricey but really fresh, high quality food. Veggie options are abundant and the veggie croquette is amazing and flavorful. I also love the cold ramen when the weather is right. They have a very good although expensive fresh mochi. Tasty options: Beef Donburi Oyako Don (Chicken and Egg) Ribeye Steak Teriyaki Green Tea and Raspberry Mochi Sushi box selections look fresh and appealing Delicious food and excellent service! The warm grab & go section is full of pleasant surprises. If you don't see what you want available in the grab & go heaters, you can just tell a waiter and the kitchen will prepare your lunch box right away. You can also order Japanese Curry at the counter. Whenever you are craving Japanese in FiDi come here and you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
This is a great place for a quick grab and go meal (just like they mention). Everything is pre-made and is either heated (like the rice bowls) or cooled (like the sushi) and ready to eat. I just wanted something small so I got a spam masubi and two hand rolls. They were all pretty good and fairly priced. Overall, everything was decent including the price and I would go back for a quick meal.
google avatar

Yelp
TL;DR Okay food. Long line. Came in for lunch, and the Bento boxes were almost out just after 12pm, but they still had a good amount of sushi in back; the fridge had sushi, sashimi, and a poke bowl (which wasn't actually a poke bowl, just ahi tuna). Got a small box of seared salmon for $6.50. It was labeled a salad but had just a couple tiny lettuce leaves. I did at least manage to get some ginger at the front which was a plus. At the end of the line near the register, they had hand rolls for $2.25/piece. Had I known, I would have just gotten a bunch of those, but the line was crazy and store was packed, so it would've been more trouble to try returning my salmon. Next time!
google avatar

Lindsay G.

Yelp
Delicious and fast for weekday lunches! You walk in and pick up a premise bento box. The line moves quickly and if you pay with cash it's even faster. They are also on MealPal which is nice.

Yelp
Dear Tenmatsu, People will hate on you so much for being so convenient and tasty without the exorbitant prices and bullshit. Convenience is sexy. You are like a Japanese 7-11 on steroids. I love your hot dishes (you do gyudon right) and also your crispy garlic green beans, as well as your fly-off-the-shelves wakame salad and chirachi tray. All super affordable. You are legit the best thing that has ever happened to FiDi. Signed, Every Single Person Who Lunches At Their Desk #grabandgo

Yelp
I worked in the area for about 4 years now and honestly had never noticed this place until I got on Mealpal and this was one of the options. Selected the salmon rice bowl for lunch and came at 12:30 to pick up. I got to the counter and the chef had just walked out of the kitchen to put the bowls down so my bowl was piping hot. There was a piece of salmon with a bunch of cooked cabbage and a couple pieces of tofu skin on top of Japanese rice (my favorite). They have extra teriyaki sauce and tonkatsu sauce on a tray which I found super awesome and convenient especially since I love to slather my rice in teriyaki sauce. Taste wise, the salmon was slightly overcooked but honestly, I drenched it in so much teriyaki sauce it didn't really matter. The rice was a little stuck together, but not hard. The tofu skin was a little salty. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal and would look forward to trying more things they offer.

Yelp
Tenmatsu is a good grab and go place on Kearny st that I frequently visit. It sells lots of Japanese bentos that not only taste good but also convenient to carry around. My favorite dish is by far the beef gyu-don. It is marinated sliced beef with onions on top of rice. The portion is huge and the meat gets its salty flavor from soy sauce and is great with the slight sweet and spicy onions. Do keep in mind there is no seat inside tho
google avatar

Ahmad J.

Yelp
Tenmatsu is a strictly grab-and-go lunch spot in FiDi for Japanese bento boxes. It carries both hot and cold bento boxes. Hot boxes include chicken or fish with rice, tempura, shu mai, tofu in different combinations. Cold boxes include sushi and sashimi in various combinations. It also has some Japanese curry over rice and donburi bowls. Over a period of time I've tried a bunch of both their hot and cold options. The hot bento boxes are loaded and difficult to finish in one sitting even for a hearty eater like myself. Taste-wise also they are on point. Sushi and sashimi has always been fresh. Sashimi is not the melt in your mouth variety but it's good enough for the price. Prices for most items are in the $13-$15 range which is very reasonable for the area and quality of food. Tenmatsu is my preferred choice for getting to-go Japanese food for lunch in and around FiDi.

Yelp
I ordered a salmon teriyaki donburi on Ritual around lunch time. It was ready to pick up really quickly. This is a small grab-pay-and-go place. It can get pretty crowded, so ordering ahead is a good idea. The salmon teriyaki donburi is so good! I love getting this dish, the salmon is tasty and doesn't have the fishy smell or taste, the teriyaki sauce glistens on the fish and adds a light sweet taste, the veggies are steamed and seasoned well, the pickled daikon gives a nice crunch, and they give a decent amount of rice and food. It's pretty filling! I would recommend this place if you want fast to-go Japanese food.

Yelp
Sometimes I need a touch of the motherland to get me through a long work day, or at least that's what I try to convince myself to justify the carb overload that I know can't be good for me from a donburi bowl. What happens is I think about that scene in Ozu's "Tokyo Story" where poor widowed Noriko is sitting in her tenement studio, and since she doesn't have a real kitchen, she has to order donburi bowls that get delivered to her by messenger to entertain her aged in-laws. That scene actually predates Grubhub and Seamless by over sixty years. Anyway, a hearty donburi bowl to someone like me who was raised by a transplanted Japanese mother is just like a plate of biscuits and gravy to Jamie W. Comfort food that stays in your subconscious and eventually needs to be fed to your belly. They have one here, the $9.50 Oyako Don, which consists of chicken, scrambled egg, onions and mushrooms all simmered together and put over rice to steam (photo: http://bit.ly/1zflAVw). The term 'oyako don' actually means 'parent-child rice bowl' because chicken and egg exist in the same bowl. Usually the combo freaks me out because of the genocidal implications, but I make exception for this one dish since it can be tasty. I just wish this one wasn't overwhelmed by the amount of rice underneath. I added insult to injury by ordering a $2.50 Spam Musubi (photo: http://bit.ly/1yIbmuO). Yes, you heard me. Spam on rice wrapped in nori. Actually Spam reminds me of my dad since he was raised in Hawaii and the one dish he cooked when I was a child was Spam fried rice. Anyhow, you take the food to go in one of their reusable bags since it's a mere closet in here. FOOD - 3 stars...evokes warm memories but the execution could be better AMBIANCE - 3 stars...this is a Ginza-size operation so not enough for me to comment SERVICE - 3.5 stars...always pretty courteous in here TOTAL - 3 stars...have you seen my childhood?

Yelp
I've been back here for the 20th time now, I believe, and i'm going to try not to go back. While it's convenient and quick, the food just looks a lot better than it tastes. And frankly, I need to watch my wallet and waistline! there's always too much rice and not quite enough protein in the rice bowls. I also think I got ripped off on my change...
google avatar

Yelp
Picked up lunch with coworkers after our morning meeting today-- verdict is that the fish is definitely fresh (yay!) and sashimi cuts are above average in size (another yay!), but is short of 4 stars in a couple ways: 1) doesn't taste strongly of the respective fish's flavor, and 2) is not buttery / doesn't dissolve in your mouth like super premium fish. All things considered, still a solid spot for lunch in FiDi. I got the sashimi and a spam musubi. Sashimi came with 2 slices each of: 1) salmon-- not bad, but not the buttery umami-ness that is other restaurants' salmon sashimi, 2) yellowtail-- not super fresh, but not bad either, slightly lemony, 3) tuna-- not bad, meat kind of lingers in your mouth and doesn't dissolve, 4) red snapper-- not too much taste on its own, doesn't dissolve. Spam musbi-- rice is slightly hard (pre-made, I guess), but combo of egg, green onion pieces, and bits of spam make this a nice, snackable treat. Others at my office swear by this place though (as in there's a guy who will grab lunch from here every. single. day.). I've seen all the other dishes and I can't wait to try that beef donburi and their hand roll choices!

Yelp
Came here on a weekday for lunch around 1pm. Food: Food here is all grab and go or pre made so it's tough if you're picky like me. I was going to get some pre boxed sushi but I changed my mind and got the veggie curry rice bowl. I only like certain types of nigiri and it didn't specify what was in each box so I didn't want to risk not liking it. The veggie curry bowl was alright, a little bit heavy on the sauce though. Service: the line was pretty long when I was here, but it went quickly since most people just grab and go. Ambiance: this is a small place to specifically take out your food. No seating area at all so plan on bringing your food out with you.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Tenmatsu is essentially Japanese bento boxes and sushi ready to-go that you can just grab and eat back at your office. They have wide variety of rice bowls/sushi/udon/curry available. I've gone and had the gyudon for $9. I heated the bowl up again when I got back to my office and surprisingly enough, there was plenty of beef/rice in the bowl. The beef was tender and fatty, just like gyudon should be. I will definitely stop by again to try some of their other bento boxes.
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
Is this spot perfect? No. But their sushi is fresh and fairly high-quality, especially for a grab-and-go spot, prices are fair, and the food is always consistent. With respect to their sushi, I've never had a bad piece of fish and the rice is very well cooked (I'm a stickler for good sushi rice.) The hand rolls here are great, if you need a little extra food, and options change daily. I also really like their Chicken Udon, which is one of the few items that are made to order. The noodles are cooked perfectly, the chicken is good, and the broth is well seasoned without being too salty. I also have a soft spot for Tenmatsu because it reminds me of locations in Tokyo where you can quickly grab a very good lunch to go. Is this the fanciest Japanese restaurant in the city, not by a long shot - but I respect restaurants that serve good, consistent food, with friendly service, and don't try to over reach. If you're in FiDi for lunch and you're looking for a spot that will scratch your itch for sushi / Japanese food without breaking the bank, this is the place.

Yelp
This is a convenient spot for a grab and go lunch if you are in the mood for Japanese. I have walked past this place dozens of times but always overlooked it. Finally decided to give it a try and it was what I expected -- far from mind-blowing but decent enough that I would come back. I have tried their sushi combinations which are usually around $14. The fish is alright, typical of what you would expect for pre-made sushi/sashimi platter. This is definitely not melt-in-your-mouth sashimi but it will probably satisfy a craving. Most recently tried their chicken katsu bento box ($13), and I felt the same way about it. I would pass on the spam masubi -- rice to spam ratio was disappointing and overall nothing special. What drew me in initially was the mochi pics I saw on Yelp! I inquired of the cashier and was sad to find out that the owner hurt her arm and is temporarily not making mochi. Happy to hear that all mochis are handmade so definitely will be asking about it on my next visits until I get to try it :)

Nice little to-go place on kearny street. Grab and go. Prices are reasonable by San Francisco standards.

Yelp
Great staple in FiDi for grab-n-go sushi, donburi, rice balls, and bento boxes prepped for you, or noodle soups made to order! It's an awesome option in FiDi for those who can't take a long lunch break but want something of decent restaurant quality without the wait. They seem to have a good selection early in the lunch hour, but around 1:30-2PM most of the food is gone. Come as early as you can for the best stuff! I haven't tried any of their sushi platters yet (but they look promising and I heard their fish is fresh!), but I've tried their Ume rice ball (plum), their salmon skin hand roll, and their made-to-order soba noodles. The rolls and rice ball were good, and the soba noodles were actually pretty good. For $8.50 they come with the soup base, egg and seaweed and for a few bucks extra you can add tofu, chicken, beef, etc. They offer other noodle options like udon and ramen which may be something I'll try next as well as the sushi rolls and bento boxes! My coworker got their katsu donburi and thought it was good but probably needed more sauce. All in all, it gets the job done for lunch :)

Yelp
Got some salmon sushi, and found 3 plastic shards in it! I thought it was fish bone at first but it wasn't. I bent them and they flexed all the way... Bones will break eventually. Luckily I'm a slow eater, so I didn't accidentally swallow them. Plastic (and anything, even bones) are never supposed to be in sushi. This was my first time here... Loved the idea of an easy quick sushi grab-and-go place, but this makes me reconsider coming back. Quality control needs to be enforced.

Yelp
Got takeout from here which was OK. The Oyako don which is chicken and egg over rice and the green tea and mango mochi

This place is very convenient for grab n go lunch. You can easily see all your options and grab what looks most appealing to you. Reason for average score is because of the lack of efficiency in the shop. It gets so busy and chaotic during the lunch rush. There's people everywhere and no clear indication which line they are in (ordering food, cash payment, or credit/debit payment). All three "lines" are in the same vicinity in the front of the shop and it's super crowded and confusing. It doesn't help that the main female worker is running around spastically all through out the restaurant. Sushi is okay. Place is convenient and prices are standard for sushi.

Yelp
I get it, it's the financial district - grab-and-go, fast, expensive - it's what to expect. This place is the epitome of to-go, expensive, and fast food. I got the chirashi bowl, $13.50. Actually for chirashi, that's not bad at all. I thought the quality was very good for to-go sushi. The chirashi came with salmon and ahi sashimi over rice and seaweed. It was a nice lunch. The portion was filling and at the end of the day, I wasn't too mad that I spent that much on a to-go bowl of sushi. This place is a grab-and-go place. The other options they have are similar - bento bowls/boxes, which go for around $9, and other sushi bentos, all around $10-13. I think the chirashi is the best thing they have to offer in terms of quality. The bentos look pretty good and the sushi bentos look good too, although I don't feel like I would be okay with spending as much on those. What is surprising about this place is the quality of sushi and fish. It's pretty high for the financial district, for the price, and for the fact that it is a grab-and-go sushi place. I don't think there is a comparable grab-and-go sushi place around. So I can say with confidence that this will be my place for affordable sushi until something better pops up!

Yelp
Today was my first try at Tenmatsu after new ownership took over and although most of the menu items have remained the same, I was highly disappointed by the spicy tuna hand-roll that used to be my very favorite when I was craving rice!!! It was literally half the size and had barely any fish in it! See my pic! Also, they used to use Ahi and now they use albacore, there was a serious taste difference! I also had the chicken teriyaki bowl and it was just ho-hum. The service is still as pleasant as it was before and there were a few things in the cold bin that I'll definitely be trying out. Until then Tenmatsu!

Yelp
I love their Bento boxes! Very tasty and very filling. Especially their fried fish and tonkatsu ones. But my favorite thing of all... their Strawberry Mochi. I am taking a great risk by calling that out, but it the best strawberry mochi I have ever had. Hopefully after saying that, I will still be able to get some, because a limited quantity are made fresh that day and I usually get there just in time to grab the last one. Its GIGANTIC with a HUGE, MOIST, Strawberry smack in the center. Once you get to it, its like heaven is EXPLODING JUICES in your mouth. I'm a fan.

Yelp
My coworker and I were strolling along to Ramen Underground when all of a sudden he stops in front of Tenmatsu and stands staring in silence for what seems to be about 45 seconds before he finally says he wants to see what's inside. Soo you can say Tenmatsu has an attractive storefront? This place has all kinds of pre-made Japanese goodies and hot items for order that you can take to go (or well there aren't any seats here so you have to take it to go) such as: - Sushi rolls - Donburi - Bento boxes - Spam musubis - Japanese salads - Udon My coworker (who is Japanese) says the chefs in the kitchen are Japanese so yay for authenticity. We were excited with all of the selections they offered and spent 20 minutes before deciding on the Chasu udon with egg drop soup ($1 extra for egg drop) and seaweed. Both items were good! You have to order the udon at the counter and it takes about 5 minutes to get. We came back another time and got the Yanagawa (barbequed eel) donburi and the Sansai udon. The donburi was pretty good and sweet tasting. The udon came with the normal broth since I didn't ask for the egg drop soup and the normal broth was way too salty, so get the egg drop soup! All in all, the food is good. Or good for quick grab and go type food. The service here is great and the girl working here is super cute!

Yelp
This place is cheap with the amount of food you receive. They have a variety of bento boxes, udon, rice bowls, and mochi. Whenever I'm feeling Japanese I always drop by here since the service is quick and everyone is very friendly, the food is delicious as well.

Yelp
Only fresh sushi you'll get in the area and it's all TO-GO! This is a perfect place to get something quick and delicious! I bought the poke and salmon roll and both had FRESH RAW FISH! I love it! :) The poke is a bit spicy but spicy in all the right way! The salmon roll had more fish inside the roll, it wasn't just packed with imitation crab or tempura. They also sell a variety of rice dishes and donburi bowls. It seems like the hand rolls are really popular as well and there's about 5 different kinds! Some of them are pre-made and sold in the front. What I love the most is the little japanese man that takes care of the orders! He is so adorable and always smiling when speaking to customers! He really makes this little to-go place feel like an authentic japanese place!

Yelp
FOOD: Best traditional sushi you can grab and go for lunch in the area. I love the sushi combo #2 ($14)! Come before 12pm to beat the lunch rush and have the best selection. Nothing here has ever disappointed--the hot dishes are great, miso portions generous, sushi combos delicious, and selection of fridge teas great! There are hot and cold options. I LOVE that the green salad is packed with mixed greens, avocado, and flavor and is so inexpensive for downtown (I want to say $5). Makes getting your 5 a day that much easier :). SERVICE: Everyone is super friendly! You can make edits to hot food orders (e.g., add broccoli to udon). FYI for anyone reading that you can pay for grab-and-go hot/cold case food up front immediately. Center station in front of kitchen is for ordering hot/specialty food (i.e., miso, udon, hand rolls). AMBIANCE: No seating, just grab and go.

Yelp
Great, casual Japanese food at a really good price. I bought a fantastic 3 piece sushi set for only $5, while the same could cost $10 at a local grocery store. The only downsides were the limited options and somewhat slow service. The only cashier who was able to work the card mashing went out for a minute so I had to wait. Otherwise, I can't wait to go back and try the udon next time!

Yelp
Just go to Safeway. Lame fish, ice cold rice. Under cooked, too. If you go once, you wont go back.
